Since when is reminding us that America is founded on virtues of Honesty, integrity, and decency" partisan? Beck's presentation was as innocuous as could be (and yes, his voice teared up). And he was cool to the --can I say "unsung" -- performers in rehearsal-- the paper didn't mention the 350 voice volunteer choir -- and he worked as hard and stayed as late in rehearsal as anyone. I was impressed.

Note: wish the paper would get its details straight...Beck was dressed in 1910 attire, not colonial. Maybe the reporter didn't notice the "Music Man" allusions or just doesn't know anything about musical theater.

You liberal anti-American bashers just feel uneasy when confronted with Patriotism, love of Country, Sacrifice, Mom and Apple Pie. It's your issue man.

I could not care any less about your discomfort around those who love this Country, understand it's principles and history and the sacrifices of blood and treasure necessary, to not only keep this Union free for 200+ years, but which also has liberated millions of Gods children the World over.

You people are so ignorant it is laughable. We have seen the likes of you before and Neville Chamberlain would be proud. (Look it up, I'm sure the reference went right over your head).

Thankfully, there are those who know and understand the foundations of America and what it takes to preserve it.

Move over libs and the grown-ups will preserve this Union for this and future generations, which includes even you. We'll preserve freedoms which you enjoy every day and which allow you to look foolish with ever increasing regularity.

Trust us, nobody is looking to you and your idealogies for guidance. Glenn Beck is a National Treasure, he gets it, we're so sorry you don't.

Just be careful that our patriotism doesn't become as that of the Nephite nation....misplaced.

I love this country deeply and what it's freedoms have meant to my particular family who fought in every war the colonies or the nation had defending the right to individual freedom.

I don't believe in blind patriotism though and I certainly believe in watchmen on the towers of freedom, so I'm glad to listen to those who can intelligently critique the weaknesses, sins, and foibles of our government. Aferall, our presidents are not our Prophets.

I do not believe in "America, or Utah, Love It or Leave It" anymore than I believe in "My Mother, Drunk or Sober."

ajarizona | 6:10 p.m. July 5, 2009 you bleat: "You people are so ignorant it is laughable. We have seen the likes of you before and Neville Chamberlain would be proud. (Look it up, I'm sure the reference went right over your head). "

Oh yeah, that was quite the obscure reference there, Chamberlain, wow nobody got that one, you sure did your homework to come up with that name, yep nobody has ever heard that name before. Not like it has not been used ad nauseam by conservatives.

Beck is a national treasure? Hokaaaay. . . Wow, they just keep getting more and more fringe.

Does amaze me though, that someone with your writing "skills" would call others "ignorant."

Did Glenn Beck talk about his desire, enunciated by a guest on his show, to have another successful attack from Osama bin Laden?

Beck agreed that a bin Laden attack was the only thing that could save America.

Sounds like a nice event, but sure are a lot of "haters" in Utah....seems like some just can't do or say anything poitive. Such hate would certainly indicate a serious illness.
Thanks Troops | 7:52 p.m. July 5, 2009
It was awesome to see all the military with their families. We can never say thanks enough to you all. Thank you and your families for your service. I especially loved seeing you stand at attention when the flag was retired.

Thanks to all who made the show happen. Your tireless efforts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for having Glenn Beck and letting him be a real mc this year.

Haters, go back to commenting on the trib site.
I Love America | 11:10 p.m. July 5, 2009
I love that we have thousands of people volunteer to provide such a wonderful show. I loved having thousands of military personnel with their families, along with police officers, firefighters and others who serve each of us and protect us daily. I pay tribute and honor to those who fight for our freedoms and those (both past and present) who sacrifice for what they believe.

I am grateful our country is free - and people are able to express their opinions (even when they seem to be filled with bitterness, anger and hatred). Our freedom provides them the right to do so. Although I would rather read comments about celebration, honor, respect, and what people loved about the Stadium of Fire - I also recognize people feel strongly the way they feel - just wish they weren't so vocal about the negative.

As for me, I truly do appreciate the hundreds of hours of volunteer time to bring about a wonderful family-friendly celebration of our country! Thank you to everyone involved. God Bless America - and God Bless Everyone!

This was my first time to attend the Stadium of Fire. We went because my daughter was one of the dancers. All those who were apart of the event, either on the scene or behind it worked hard with sweat and tears to make it a grand celebration. I came home with a great love and appreciation for our country and for our soldiers who sacrifice so much for us. It would be nice if we all could put aside differences for one night to celebrate our nation and humble ourselves with gratitude. Thanks to all those who worked hard for a successful night at the Stadium of Fire. It was well done.

Complain all you want, but one of Beck's guests did say that, and Beck agreed with him; you can find the footage on YouTube (And who the heck are MEDIA MATTERS LEFTISTS, anyway?)

And I'm proud of the US, by the way. I'm so proud of it that I want it to be the best it can be. The petty, ignorant extremism that Beck spreads offends me as an American, and I believe that this country deserves better than the likes of him.

Sandi | 7:16 p.m. July 5, 2009: "GLENN NEVER SAID THIS ABOUT BIN LADIN... THAT IS ALL MADE UP FROM MEDIA MATTERS LEFTISTS."

Uh, no Sandi, no it's not, he actually did agree with his guest, Michael Scheuer, that was making this statement. But, hey, don't believe me, watch the footage of his June 30th show.

Scheuer said: “The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it’s gonna take a grass roots, bottom up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans... Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.”

Beck did not object, rather he nods agreement, and then says, “Which is why I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.”

I am proud of America. America IS the greatest nation on earth. Under our Constitutional system, we elected President Obama, and I am proud to support him. We are soon to get our first Latino member of the Supreme Court, nominated by a black President and to be confirmed by a majority that was sent to represent the various states elected in free and open elections. We are able to step us as a nation, and address the lack of health care that is lacking for nearly 50 million of our citizens. We are able to take steps to protect the jobs of many of our citizens from corporate greed and mismanagement, because the greater good is important. I will do what I can to help our President be successful, because he is helping this great nation be more respected in the world. Yes, I AM proud to be an American, and I pray that each of my fellow citizens will patriotically support our duly elected leaders and hope for their success in leading this great nation. I will not be a hypocrite and claim patriotism while undermining our President.

Who cares about all of this political banter. How did the new field look anyone? I know many probably were able to sit on the chairs on the field. How's it looking for September?

To "Sandi", you make my point easy when you respond in that way, blaming the MEDIA MATTERS people.

Why do you have a problem with Media Matters? All they do i s post actual video clips of what people say, even including the context.

In Fact Beck did agree with his guest as quoted above.

Do you have any proof that Glenn or his guest did not say that?

I get it, you just don't believe that someone you have elevated to a pinacle in your belief system would agree with something so unamerican as actually saying that we need another terrorist attack to save the country.

Please don't be such a patsy that believes everything you are fed. YouTube can prove you wrong.

Oh, and by the way, I am very proud of my country. I am proud that the majority of Americans actually saw what George Bush and Republican rule did to this country and decided they wanted change.

I am proud that the majority of Americans live in a reality-based world and reject fear mongering from Fox news and Sean, Rush, Beck and Michael Savage.

I am proud that America is returning to greatness.

Stadium of Fire: Review
For the past twenty years we've attended SOF
Every year we have fun reviewing the show in the luxury of the BYU parking lot waiting for cars to leave.
Our discussions:
Sam: Where were the sky-divers and thrill acts.
Mother: Does Dave McDougal or Carl Bacon always need to be a part of the show. They strugle through the q-cards. All of this could easily be pre-recored and put on the video screen.
Mike: David Osmond: not quite sure what his roll was but my little sister adores him..
The fireworks were reduced considerably, My grandson and I had timed the entire fireworks which were just over 4o minutes.
Oh well another year goes by. Hopefully, will attend
next year. Please lower the prices. A Scout Troop is doing the official burning of the flag. The flag inside the stadium was a special effect to make it look like it was burning.

Beck is such a manipulative, sentimental fraud! I sat right in front of him and watched his fake tears. Then a little kid a few seats behind me asked his mother "Why is he crying?"

Out of the mouths of babes!

Anyone who actually believes anything that comes out of Glenn Beck's mouth should be automatically disqualified from being an American citizen! It reveals a lack of intelligence the likes of which we really don't want in this country!
Anonymous | 11:18 a.m. July 8, 2009
I am a VERY patriotic atheist. I vigorously oppose Glenn Beck and his ilk because he erroneously believes and preaches that belief in god is one of the "principles" of true American patriotism.

HE IS WRONG!

America is NOT a Christian nation, nor even a BELIEVING nation! It was never meant to be.

Any person who would marginalize non-believers, atheists, agnostics, and skeptics is violating the true principles of this great country!

Beck is not a true patriot for this reason! Because he insists on establishing a religious principle as part of being a true American, Beck is ANTI-American! He is no different than fascists and terrorists anywhere else in the world.

Shedaisy, in the article, mentions a bad celebration where Glenny is the host. Really?

We can't sneak anything by those girls.

This event had everything mindless pop music, 2nd rate country, & an egocentric host.

Mr. Anonymous, what was your gateway drug to your crack addiction? I have to teach my children what not to do. If you would open your eyes and accually read a bit you would sing a different tune.

You forgot to mention Baseball & Chevrolet in your list. What are you some kind of Communist?

Saying we believe we are the greatest nation in the world doesn't mean we believe the people of this nation are better than others in the world, but that our freedoms and the ability that we have to control our own destiny is no better. To believe that when someone says that you are saying others aren't as good is just nonsence. Our declaration of independence and constitution give us rights that don't exist in other countries and I don't think the vast majority of americans understand what it would be like to live in a dictatorship. Our country is the greatest, because of the abilities that the people have, not because the people are better. If you are missunderstanding the cry, maybe you should educate yourself in what the role of government is, and should be. Maybe you would change your mind, if you went into it with an open mind in the first place.
Nicolle | 4:23 a.m. July 9, 2009
For those of you confused on why an American flag was burned that is the proper way to get rid of a flag when it's too worn to fly. Look it up. To those of you who have a problem w/ GB get over it! At least he will give you a different p.o.v. and get you to think about things instead of drinking the koolaid. Hopefully America wakes up and votes these morons out of office (Rep. or Dem.) that voted for the stimulus and other spending that we can't afford. We can't spend our way out of debt!
Anonymous | 12:44 p.m. July 9, 2009
Actually, Nicolle, for the past 50 years or more, economists have proven that you CAN spend your way out of debt! Clearly, you don't understand economics. So it is a good thing you aren't running things. You are probably one of those ignorant people who thinks Obama is spending all your children's money. Guess what - only CONGRESS can submit a budget! The President can only approve it or veto it. He can't spend what Congress doesn't submit. If you don't like the stimulus package, don't blame Obama, blame YOUR LOCAL CONGRESSPERSONS! More importantly, EDUCATE yourself! Just because the Federal Government set aside money to "bail out" banks and car manufacturers does not REQUIRE them to TAKE the money! Nobody is forcing banks or car-makers to take a cent!

Get a clue before you make a fool of yourself in public!
God's Freedom? | 4:03 p.m. July 9, 2009
All of you, seriously. Mormons who deify soldiers and worship them...how can any other many besides myself give or take away my God given freedoms? How are soldiers past and present fighting for my freedom? Isn't that my responsibility? I owe some death tool (soldier) no credit. Either God gave me freedom, or some unknown soldier did. It's not both. Please. Christ was a pacifist and all you war monger Mormons are NOT Christian. Funny guys and gals. Get a grip.
