The Russians couldn't do it, can America win in Afghanistan? Whether or not America would have been in a much better position if President Bush had confronted the Taliban from the beginning instead of focusing America's military resources on Iraq, we shall never know. Nevertheless, the military goals and objectives, the disengagement strategy with regards to American's military offensive in Afghanistan remains murky and unclear even as America continues to attempt to extricate itself from Iraq. President Obama now finds himself in a complex, high risk endeavor with which the American public will begin to lose interest or passion unless America's role in Afghanistan is made more clear and understandable and that support a reasonable belief that America will be able to obtain whatever objectives that have yet to be made known.

Bush... actually his military commanders followed terrorist to Iraq... if you dont remember the United States Destroyed the Taliban in 2002/2001 so resourses wasted... mmm no. winning in Iraq has caused insurgents to focus their attention where we are not... Afghanistan... which bolsters the Taliban with new people and less attention... until now... but we cannot win with the bleeding hearts of america trying to change war into something into what it isnt... people die.. in horrible ways and in horrible situations... but Until we recognize that Americans dont have the stomach to fight terrorists... we wont fight them... put your feelings in your pocket... stop feeling sorry for the enemy and do our job... protect america... its allies... and our resources... win.

The US didn't follow terrorist into Iraq. Bush started planning to invade Iraq after he entered the White House. The reason du jour was WMD (weapons of mass destruction) that where never found, then using Faux news and his willing idiots, the reason morphed to liberating the people of Iraq. There were never terrorist in Iraq. Saddam Hussein keep terrorist out because he feared them being a threat to his power.

The Taliban were defeated. Remember, Ben Laden escaped from Torra Borra? Under the "leadership" of Bush, the Taliban regained control of 90% of Afghanistan.

Why can't conservatives read facts. You must have made your story up or from stories from conservative historical revisionist.

BTW the Mission wasn't Accomplished when Bush had the photo op on the carrier. It was a change to fly in a military jet.

This liberal vet who served during Vietnam loves your marginalization of soldiers dying. Few conservatives have the courage to wear a uniform. The Bush White House, Fox News and Limbaugh's EIB are filled with chicken hawks. What branch do you serve in, brave one?

The fallout is freedom for Iraq | 1:44 p.m. July 4, 2009
If my memory serves me right, after troops liberated Kuwait, part of the truce was that UN nuclear inspectors be allowed to monitor inside Iraq. But in time Saddom showed contempt and kicked the inspectors out until threatened with air strikes. This cat and mouse game continued even with sanctions in place. What else was the world to believe? Mandates with no force to back them up are pointless (later sanctions proved to be ineffective). Saddom loss because of arrogance and pride, consequences of his choice, and Iraq is free of a tyrant. Thanks to the sacrifice of many service men and women around the world, particularly the US, happy birthday America.
Remember these guys | 3:34 p.m. July 4, 2009
Look at the pictures of the soldiers in this article, and many others. Think about what you are doing today, probably grilling, watching tv, and just hanging out. Regardless of your political stance, you should be grateful for what these soldiers are doing. Remember, the soldiers don't pick where the fight is, they are told by politicians. If you don't supports the war, atleast support the soldiers.

God Bless America.

Nam vet here and Man, I totally 100% agree with what you said-- Thanks for putting it in words.. I'm totally sick of "CHICKEN HAWKS".
I'd like to find one, just one conservative that has tasted the blood of an enemy or a Brother in Arms.
Conservatives are conservative because they just don't get it and are afraid of losing a dollar someplace-- Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh are big mouthed know it all cowards---- but then they are the conservative spokesman....

Conservative here. Just finished 37 years with one tour in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. I never bad mouthed your service, don't bad mouth mine. I would say that way more than 90% of the men in my Battalion were conservative. De Opresso Libre.

I'm sick of hearing about Nam vet's that are liberals who don't care about todays soldiers and marines. They want to sit and whine and complain. And yes if you would like to discuss in person come on over here to Afghanistan instead of just accepting the BS put out by the majority of the media.
