Wow, for Ms. Ely to write an article like that, she'd better be skinny herself. But you have to agree with our freak show eating habits. I'm surprised she didn't list yogurt with her sugar devils.

I don't buy into this white flower scare. I'm sure there's a difference but it has to be splitting hairs to notice it. It's PC to hate white flour. I grew up on the stuff with no, zero health problems. What I didn't grow up on was sugar cereals, soda pop, and frequent trips to the fast food chains, oh yeah, and we "played outside" that's a term that means no video games.

So for those that can't afford hip (whole grain and other PC foods) eat in modertion, avoid sugars, and run around the block.

My parents ate margarine, crackers, fried foods, doughnuts, etc. etc. without restraint ALL of their lives and they made it to 90 years--hmmmm, could our author be mistaking her biases for truth? Does she think that just because she says it the physical world conforms to her misinformed opinion?

What she has said is not new so many Doctors say the same thing; however, I believe it all depends on one’s body system and how it digests food.

I gave up butter, white flour, sugar and coffee and have lost 17lbs and continue to drop more pounds. I gave up coffee after drinking it for 35 years with cream & sugar (black coffee is horrible). I will, on occasion, still partake of these things but I don't really miss them.

Ms. Ely needs to check her sources. the article sheds no new light on the subject. There are many more "top ten" bad foods that could very well be listed ahead of the items she lists. Everything is good in moderation. Try telling an athlete that sports drinks are bad. It all depends on how much, when and where. This article is just another way to put fear and regret into the hearts and minds of the people.

To: Show me the science

Your response is a little like the person who says "My Uncle Jack smoked 2 packs a day and lived to be 100." A statistical anomaly perhaps.
My belief is that God provided fruits and grains and meat for our use, and the closer we can get to food in its natural state, the healthier we are likely to be. I'm not a "health nut" - I stick to basics and try to avoid overly processed food, and food whose ingredient list is longer than a line or two.
