Borders looks to 'make' hits with independent-style strategy

Along with this program is extreme negative reinforcement. If you do not
personally sell a make title each week, you will be punished and get written up
enough, your will be fired. Panic drives this initiative. It ignores the
expertise of local employees to know their customers and tastes. You cannot sell
books on a one title fits all customer model. They ask employees to
pressure/offer a make title to every single person in the store. This is the
death knell of Borders.
