I say, “Cut him some slack and let him pursue happiness as he chooses to define it.”
Oh, he’ll have to pay the price and suffer the consequences of his decisions, but those will be his choices. He’ll probably get a divorce but that was just a friendship to begin with. He’ll probably lose his four boys. He may have to repay the state for the money he deceitfully used to fund his many trips. He may lose the State House, potentially the White House, his undefined career. He may lose his many friends but what price is that compared to finding one's “soul mate?”
History is replete with kings giving up kingdoms for their soul mates. Can this be much worse?
Does it make a difference? To me, probably not.
To Mark Sanford and family? Their business, not mine.
But, a mighty fine literary book in the rough, nonetheless.
