Has the letter writer even attempted writing to Barack Obama? Or any government official regarding his concerns?
KJB | 1:38 a.m. July 3, 2009
At this point, it won't be long before we read the letters about how Obama is sucking out America's brain power with the help on MSNBC. I know that the DN is required to run at least one anti-Obama letter a day, buy can't they be a little more discerning that this?
Franken! | 4:24 a.m. July 3, 2009
I've heard Al Franken speak - he's an extremely smart, incisive guy. I'm all in favor of him being a US Senator.

I think the US conservative movement got lost in its own PR these last eight years. It's stunning to see how badly they're taking their losses in the last election.

I think Obama is doing a fine job overall, and my confidence in the future of America is much higher now than it was this time last year. I shudder when I imagine how our country would have been led had McCain/Palin won the election.

KJB--
Unfortunately, I think this letter is the most intelligent anti-Obama letter DN received yesterday. You have to wonder what the letters were like that they didn't print. Pretty terrifying, actually.
Dumb Iraq War | 4:43 a.m. July 3, 2009
This war is probably closing in on 1 trillion dollars; perhaps Saddam wasn't worth it. Clinton gave us Bush who gave us Obama. Thing will work out.

"At this point, it won't be long before we read the letters about how Obama is sucking out America's brain power with the help on MSNBC."

Guess you don't watch much of the town meetings that Obama's staff put together (referring to sucking out America's brain power).

Watch in the days ahead, the media is even starting to turn on Obama. Could it be the brain power has finally shifted?????
WHY NOT RUN FOR OFFICE THEN.... | 5:26 a.m. July 3, 2009
Cause your just preachin' to the choir here.

A better idea.... START A REAL CHOIR! Call yourselves the RED RANTERS.
Anonymous | 6:16 a.m. July 3, 2009
@ hypocrasy- how long will you continue to blindly defend the Obama administration? Even the media is starting to question the transparency of this administration. The democratic controlled congress has passed legislation recklessly without reading the contents. Is that the leadership you support? Frankly, its irresponsible. Obama promised an open and transparent process. That means openly debating the issues. Its not happening. Even his town hall forum are a travesty. Wake up before its too late.
Anti-Obama quota quality | 6:22 a.m. July 3, 2009
Actually, I think the DN is actually becoming a liberal paper by publishing these silly anti-Obama letters as they mischaracterize the right as ridiculously irrational, ignorant, and out of touch. Perhaps they should invite some legitimate and respected conservative writers to the op-ed pages, such as Rush, Palin, and Karl Rove. Perhaps they could start with Gov. Sanford on the sanctity of marriage post-finding your "soul mate."
Dixie Dan | 6:36 a.m. July 3, 2009
Socialized medicine? How soon the Conservatives forget about Prescription coverage and Med-Advantage all signed by George W. Bush.

"Trillion dollar stimulus packages...can't be debated because there is no detailed plan to them.

"The addition of Al Franken to the Senate ensures passage of even more job-killing legislation that cannot be stopped."

Just yesterday a complaint was lodged that the stimulus package had over 800 pages that needed to be read within one day before it was voted on. 800 pages sounds like a detailed plan.

Calling the president's health care plan "socialistic" is like calling the snow at an east coast ski resort equal to the snow in the Utah Mountains - not even close. The president is simply looking for ways to make insurance affordable and available to all who want it by using the insurance companies first, and where that option is not available, a government supported system.

Al Franken's entry into the Senate won't guarantee anything - you've seen how undisciplined Democrats vote, haven't you - but it might guarantee that an issue will make to the floor of the Senate for a vote of the simple majority rather than being stuck in filibuster by a minority group of Senator's. Isn't that a good thing?
huh | 7:01 a.m. July 3, 2009
and we have our daily mindless anti-"neo-con" rants complaining about "Rush O'Hannity clones" from people who tolerate everything except another opinion
Feel the Power | 7:17 a.m. July 3, 2009
Together now, place your hands on the radio as Rushbo pontificates... ah, thats better.
No lunatic? | 7:19 a.m. July 3, 2009
Well, you've been heard - and have shown that you are indeed a lunatic
@Dixie Dan | 7:22 a.m. July 3, 2009
The Conservatives did not forget the betrayal of George Bush with Prescripton and Med-Advantage, that is why he left office with a low approval rating. Until Republicans can put up conservative leaders, they will not have conservative support. By now, they should be seeing the light, if they are closet democrats, they better stay in the closet or actually join the democrat party. The Republican party is dead in the water until it offers a conservative perspective.
Too little, too late | 7:47 a.m. July 3, 2009
Politicians are trash. We need a better way to obtain national leaders. Can anyone imagine what it would be like if we were to elect our militay leaders. We need to take the best minds and capabilities accross america and draft them for leadership. Our politicians are only good at getting their jobs, not doing them.
A democrat | 7:52 a.m. July 3, 2009
As soon as Obama reneges on his campaign "promise" refusing to raise middle-class taxes, I will leave the democratic party.
uncannygunman | 7:53 a.m. July 3, 2009
Most people don't feel the need to expressly disclaim lunatic status, unless there is some reason.
Thinkin' Man | 7:59 a.m. July 3, 2009
Hoorah and Amen to the letter!

I believe more than half the country feels the same way and would take back the last election in a heartbeat--if only there were a good alternative.
CJ | 8:15 a.m. July 3, 2009
To " a democrat".

Time to leave, what do you think the Cap and Tax bill is other than a massive energy tax on the middle class?

What do you think the decision to tax health care benefits is other than a massive tax on the middle class?

You and the other Democrats who closed your eyes and voted this idiot into office are now getting exactly what you deserve, unfortunately the rest of us are getting it too.

RedShirt | 8:27 a.m. July 3, 2009
To "A democrat | 7:52 a.m." Obama already ahs reneged on his campain promise of not raising taxes for 95% of americans. What do you think Cap-and-Trade is? They don't call it a tax, but it is a tax. Obama also increased taxes for the poor.

He signed the "Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009" which increased federal taxes on cigaretts.

Also, by not renewing the Bush tax cuts, you are getting a tax increase to the middle class.
Anonymous | 8:38 a.m. July 3, 2009
The letter writer must be a lunatic.

Obama is against a single payer system.

I don't understand why anyone is against it. The CEO of my health insurance company made over a billion dollars for himself (not the company) in one year, and yet I owe thousands of dollars for medical procedures that happened while I was "covered".

Thats the "free market" for you.
Progressive | 8:54 a.m. July 3, 2009
Careful, careful, @Dixie Dan, the real conservative spokes people are calling for a remake of the Republican party into a conservative movement that is more libertarian (specifically stay out of peoples bed rooms and sex life) and an economy that embraces reasonable but broader regulation.

How do you think that is going to fly in Utah County..David Brooks and Mike Murphy are going to be Socialists also?
ECR | 9:28 a.m. July 3, 2009
"What do you think Cap-and-Trade is?" Exact same wording from both Redshirt and CJ - proof positive that the conservative branch of the RNC sends out a talking points newsletter each week. Good job of memorizing the mantra, guys.
@Progressive | 10:47 a.m. July 3, 2009
All for the libertarian model of conservatism. Back to fiscal conservancy, back to smaller government, back to a capitalist economic model, tempered by a moral clarity in the laws and a populace with integrity. No support from government for group agendas.

Leave the churches and disciplining laws of nature to inform the populace about prudent living. Various ages have seen experimentation with practices of good and evil, etc. etc., nature always brings the wayward back to equilibrium. Sometimes people just have to find out for themselves about the old canards. On the other hand, economic freedom and opportunity for individual self actualization is the basis for all other freedoms. I don't care about the so called sexual freedom, which turns out to be imprisonment, I do have concerns about the libertarian idea of allowing incapacitation drug abuse to infect the poplulation.

"Hoorah and Amen to the letter!

I believe more than half the country feels the same way and would take back the last election in a heartbeat--if only there were a good alternative."

Is this just more Right Wing Hot Air?

If you g2 the most recent polls from Jun. 30th, you'll find that President Obama has a 60% approval rating. This is far from what you claimed.
Deserted News  | 11:06 a.m. July 3, 2009
"I'm not a lunatic" states Obama is stripping powers away from the legislative branch which is clearly not the case. Congress wrote the Cap and Trade Bill. Congress wrote the Stimulus bill. Congress is writing the Healthcare bill. This Congress actually has had very little interference from the Obama Administration.

The "I'm not a lunatic" must be getting their information from a lunatic.

Robert:

I love your passion.

Where were you and your passion during the last eight years?
China | 11:38 a.m. July 3, 2009
Actually, China has set vehicle Miles Per Gallon standards higher than the United States. They recognize the importance of conserving fuel, so they are not dependent on foreign sources.
Sad | 11:39 a.m. July 3, 2009
His letter was published, and yet he didn't have anything to say. Well... nothing beyond his fringe-babble.
John Marx | 12:03 p.m. July 3, 2009
This letter could have gotten a lot more credibility if he'd admitted that the Bush administration also overspent, and centralized power to the executive branch.
Why do people insist on scrutinizing the other party while blinding themselves to the faults of their own party?
Grimble | 1:02 p.m. July 3, 2009
"Perhaps they should invite some legitimate and respected conservative writers to the op-ed pages, such as Rush, Palin, and Karl Rove."

Note to self:
1) Do not eat lunch while reading DN message board comments.
2) Purchase Windex to clean sandwich shrapnel off of computer screen.
Sam the Ham | 1:25 p.m. July 3, 2009
"I am not a lunatic..."

Indeed you're not. The lunatic, with his miscreant friends, is in the White House.

Dictating cars | 1:49 p.m. July 3, 2009
I missed this memo. Which car must I drive?

So the one I am driving now is the last car that I get to choose?

Which government agency is in charge of car choosing? Maybe if I get a job there, I'd have secret car-choosing power.
In Trouble | 3:11 p.m. July 3, 2009
When you have members of congress named Pelosi, Frank, Franken and Kennedy, you know that you have sunk to a low level.
Hypocrisy | 4:04 p.m. July 3, 2009
Robert and fellow neocons, please respond to the points that he wrote in his letter.

"Trillion dollar stimulus packages, environmental plans and socialized medicine can't be debated because there is no detailed plan to them."

How so? The Trillion dollar stimulus package bill was over 1000 pages long. Environmental planning and Health Care Reform are in the works.

"Ruinous environmental legislation is passed under the cover of the recent Michael Jackson media blitz."

How so? Robert, do you have a time machine? Can you see into the future? The stim package hasn't even been applied yet in several ways. Lets give it some more time.

"The addition of Al Franken to the Senate ensures passage of even more job-killing legislation that cannot be stopped."

Uh? Does Robert know anything about Al? Or his opponent? Didn't think so. He just saw that Al was a Demo and assumed he was bad.

"The Obama administration is unconstitutionally stripping power"

Examples please.

For sake of time.. Cars, energy policy, China, bla bla bla...
Obama hasn't forced us to drive different cars. We can't control China. We can however, try and do our part.
Goldi | 8:41 p.m. July 3, 2009
Good for you, and you're not a lunatic! A tax by any other name is still a tax. When you are paying higher gas prices; when you sell your home and have to have an inspector come in and decide if it's green enough, and if not, guess who has to pay for it? When health care cost go up and up and up and the only solution is to kick the old people to the curb, will we learn then. Why should the Drs spend 24+ years in school plus horrible amounts of money and work night and day and not be rewarded for all their work? Be happy with affirmative action drs and sub par care and rationing for the old.
@Goldi | 11:52 p.m. July 3, 2009
Talk to any doctor and you'll find they are getting less than Medicare pays from most insurance plans.
Eddie Keen | 6:39 p.m. July 4, 2009
how about that war in Iraq...too many lunatics have been heard for too long
