I think the site across the street from the Library is still a bad place for the Police HQ and will vote no on any bond. That area to the east of the Library would be best to have mixed use with housing, retail and office.

Well where would you put it Stenar? It doesn't seem anything is good enough for you people in SLC. I agree Library square was a poor choice, but this NEEDS to happen. And I don't think that the Barnes Bank block is a bad idea at all.

If you want to quit whining about everything and come up with a real solution that meets the needs of the city, then you should bring it to the City Council meetings.
Hey..there's an idea! | 4:56 p.m. July 2, 2009
Nice work Mayor. The site you're recommending does make more sense then Library Square. And, it accomplishes the goal of one central "civic campus." The old building that houses our capital city's police is completely embarrassing, dangerous, and just totally useless. Its time for something new and Mayor Becker has chosen a good location.

I'd like more information about the chosen site. Will the new building occupy the entire block or only part of the block? Will it occupy land that's currently vacant, or will it replace existing building (like the SL Roasting Company)?

It seems like our city has finally got its act together. Thanks for protecting Library Square. Good job Mr. Mayor. I also like the idea of saving money by joining with the state.

Although the city needs the buildings why don't they choose a site that is already in need of new development, like many areas below 5th south and state? There is also less traffic and more room for future growth. There is no need for the City Hall be located in the busy downtown area where access and roads have to contend with the rail systems.

I must object to the state being asked for funds for a city hall, it is the responsibility of the city, not all of Utah tax payers. The bonding of this building was voted on by SLC residents, not all of Utah. It will require a state vote for any state funding given to SLC. Most of Utah is already forced to pay taxes to SLC through the UTA and TRAX system property and sales taxes whether they like it or not. The greed of SLC and asking all of Utah to build its offices is a bad thing to get started. If this happens, all of the cities in Utah will be begging the state for funds to build their city halls.
