I just hope this doesn't cost us Millsap. Boozer has no long term commitment to Utah, SLC or the Jazz. He just wants to move on and make money. So be it.

Let's remember some facts in this discussion:
Here is the Jazz PAYROLL for the upcoming season. You tell me ... WHO'S WORTH WHAT THEIR GETTING PAID? WHO'S THE THIEF?

Andrei Kirilenko $16,452,000
C.J. Miles $3,700,000
Carlos Boozer $12,323,900
Deron Williams $13,758,000
Kosta Koufos $1,214,040
Kyle Korver $5,263,636
Kyrylo Fesenko $870,000
Matt Harpring $6,500,000
Mehmet Okur $9,500,000
Paul Millsap $5,600,000 (Mid-Level Exception)
Ronnie Brewer $2,717,161
Ronnie Price $1,188,000
Eric Maynor $1,129,320 (Rookie Salary)
TOTAL TEAM SALARY $81,372,977

That's 9 MILLION over the projected salary cap which will incur a 9 MILLION dollar penalty in February 2010 if something (trade) isn't done.

Before you beat up on Boozer (I'd done my share), give AK a few choice words as well. He's by far the biggest thief on the roster.
We're not LA | 6:41 p.m. June 30, 2009
This is a small market team - lets appreciate what we have. Booze might be more interested in money than loyalty, but basketball is a business in the end. In 09-10 he has to prove that he can stay healthy, and that he can play consistently at his best (I'm thinking of game 3 vs the Lakers). He should have a chip on his shoulder all year long - 09-10 might be the year 08-09 could have been before injuries.

All you Boozer haters crack me up. He's a lot better than people give him credit for, and he's a perfect fit in Jerry's pick 'n' roll system with D-Will. IF (and that's a big if) he can stay healthy, he'll have a big year, especially because he'll need to do really well if he doesn't want to get lost in the free agent shuffle that's going to happen in 2010. Millsap is awesome, but he's better suited coming off the bench to give the 2nd team a spurt of energy -- he's not a legitimate answer as a full-time starter at the 4.

this might be a good thing! he really needs to play well this year in order for him to get on a team next season. If he decides to sit around like the lazy butt he was all season, nobody will want to sign him and he will just be an unemployed, divorced has been.
What a joke! | 7:20 p.m. June 30, 2009
The tough question now is do we let Collins start or Boozer? Both have had great years! I think Okur is a good defender so we should be good at center. Our starting line-up is championship material.......

PG-Eric Maynor(incredibly experienced)
SG- Ronnie Price(good defender)
SF - C.J. Miles (shares the ball well)
PF- Jarron Collins(3.5 PPG or else!)
C -Kosta Koufus(the next Mark Eaton)

with the back ups
PG-Deron Williams(plays better off the bench)
SG - Ronnie Brewer(Terrific outside shooter)
SF - Matt Harpring (athletic)
PF - Carlos Boozer(great defender and team player)
C - Fesenko(got the respect of Coach Sloan)

We are going all the way. With Kirlenko 11 man we really good win it!

Thoughts?
Boozer Bandwagon:He's In! | 7:34 p.m. June 30, 2009
We are SO lucky to keep Carlos for another year. He wasn't tactful on a statement he made in New Jersey last December. He acted like he was going to opt out. Let's hope this year he stays healthy, knock on wood, and we see him dominate against the Lakers like in game 3. He'll be back with a vengence!!
A Healthy Boozer... | 7:36 p.m. June 30, 2009
in a contract year....having KK,Memo and Boozer all back is a good start, now find a way to sign Millsap and get rid of the dud at the 3 spot(miles) and we are on oue way to the FINALS!!!!!!
GOJAZZ | 7:37 p.m. June 30, 2009
I keep hearing Boozer is a 20 and 10 player. If he only plays 1/3 of the time isn't that more like 13 and 6?
please! | 7:49 p.m. June 30, 2009
Please Jazz fans, screw your heads back on and use your brains! If Booz would have left and Millsap became our starting 4 we would not have made the playoffs. Funnel all your anger towards the real cancer of the team, Andrei Kirilenko. Priority #1 should be trading HIM! Welcome back for another season booz. Glad to have ya! Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and we'll see what happens. All you jazz fans will be singing a different tune if Booz has a good first half of the season, is an all star, and the jazz are top 4 in the west, which is VERY possible.
Sports fans kill me..... | 8:25 p.m. June 30, 2009
You complain that he opted in? Wouldn't you for $12+ Mil? Has anyone ever looked for a new job but still worked the one they had? He would be dumb to opt out without a backup offer. Kinda like dumb pro fans.

I love sports, just not pro sports.

Even across the country we hate Boozer. Typical spoiled wannabe star - Out for himself and no one else. And the worst of all - Its going to cost the Jazz Millsap (young hungry REAL superstar) - Sad day for the diehard Jazz Fan - I bet Cleveland is laughing now!!!
annonymous  | 8:33 p.m. June 30, 2009
trade boozer out of town asap

D'oh!
no choice but to stay | 9:11 p.m. June 30, 2009
Memo and Korver decides to stay, now Boozer also wants or shall I say "needs" to stay,it is obvious that he has no choice but to stay, no team don't want to gamble on him paying him big bucks, I think he should apologize to the Jazz fans for saying before that he will opt out now he change his mind, for what reason? MONEY! its all about money!.. now that Boozer stays, what about Millsap, if we plan to resign him then the Jazz will pay big luxury tax, it's best to trade Boozer after re-signing Millsap to the best interest of the team
Mr. Mike | 9:12 p.m. June 30, 2009
The only reason Booz is staying is out of default; just like I'd say 90% of Jazz nobody else thinks he is worth what he is getting paid now and wants to fork up that kind of money, especially when he will probably just get hurt and sit out half the games. Until he goes not much will ever change for the Jazz sad to say; but he is like a big weight holding the team back creating awkwardness for the players who actually play and act like they want to go all the way.
Come On | 9:27 p.m. June 30, 2009
How many other 2 time Alll Star forwards are out there willing to sign with the Jazz? I am glad Boozer will be back he makes he team better. Plus I am not convinced Millsap can be a dominant starting PF. He may be the second best PF off the bench behind Odom but I dont think he is a top 10 starting PF.
Cowboy Joe | 9:29 p.m. June 30, 2009
Boozer will play the best he has ever played this year. He will not be injured and will be a monster on both ends of the floor. Why do you think I am saying this? Because Boozer is motivated by one thing money. If he wants a big extension, and we all know he does, he will play like a beast. It will either be with Utah or another team, but mark my words he will be a stud this year.

This is a bad dream!! Clean house from top to coach!!
GoodGuyGary | 9:34 p.m. June 30, 2009
Package AK and Boozer with the first round pick from NYK of 2010 for soem good players.
Booze is still 20 and 10 | 10:04 p.m. June 30, 2009
Like him or not, Booze is still a 20 and 10 guy. Salt Lake loved him when Utah went to the conference finals. When he is healthy, he is a top 10-15 player in this league. If this team stays healthy, they can compete with anyone in the West (except maybe the Lakers). That being said, I am a huge Milsap fan and don't look forward to life without him if he leaves. Anyway, stoked to have Boozer, Memo, Kirelenko (would be better if we had 2004 Kirelenko) and Deron in the lineup. That is menacing no matter what!
Tyler | 10:11 p.m. June 30, 2009
This is actually really good for the Jazz, IMO. Since Boozer, Memo, and Korver's contracts end next season we are totally set up for the BEST free agent market in recent history.
SG | 10:23 p.m. June 30, 2009
Boozer gives the Jazz the best chance to win this season even if it means losing Milsap. Here's hoping Booz can stay healthy and have a great season. Like him or not (and clearly most are in the not column) Utah is going nowhere without him.
John | 10:32 p.m. June 30, 2009
What we need is a new coach we have needed a new coach for years. Sloan has never got the best from his players. He's to controling, crass and abusive, loyalty is great but he needs to go!! then maybe a new coach can actualy develope young player and we can get better? we won't do it any other way the Jazz are to cheap.
No Trade | 10:50 p.m. June 30, 2009
The Jazz can't trade the guy because there is no bid. Nobody would pay nearly what Utah is contracted to pay this guy...
SC Jazz Fan | 11:22 p.m. June 30, 2009
I wonder if it is possible to trade Boozer for Milsap? Work a deal so Detroit signs Milsap and trades him with someone else back to Utah for Boozer. Detroit gets Boozer without paying the raise that Boozer was "demanding". Utah gets the cap space to get Milsap back and gets another player of some kind that is making 3-5 million to make the trade work (assuming Milsap signs for 6-8 million). It seems like there are some rules on how quickly you can trade someone you just signed it think, but I don't know what those are. Even if the Jazz waive the other player they keep Millsap and avoid the luxury tax this year. It's a thought.
Welcome Back Boozer | 12:21 a.m. July 1, 2009
so happy your back! nevermind these negative backwards Utahans who are happy with winning, and great players like Boozer, Williams, AK, Okur, Korver, Maynor, and the Jazz's collection of 7' Russian Head bangers
les | 5:55 p.m. July 1, 2009
if Boozer is healthy he makes the Jazz a lot better. im glad to have him back. and contract year for him should mean great news for jazz fans. what people don't realize is if he or Okur had left there was no replacing them and the Jazz would have been awful. can't wait till boozer makes all the negative people look dumb. just dont forget there is no room on the bandwagon for people who jumped off, then want to get back on when things go great for Booze and Okur.
les  | 6:05 p.m. July 1, 2009
Other than his injures and that is big, i dont know what everyone is thinking here. Boozer is GREAT and it sounds as if people dont like his personality but you guys dont have to live with him, so whats the problem ? someone please explain to me how the Jazz are better without him. and what the Jazz could have done with his money, no one else would have come here and the Jazz can still sign Millsap and Okur. i think sometimes people think that it is their money the Jazz are spending.

Jazz forward Carlos Boozer, left, has chosen not to opt out of the final year of his contract, a decision that may make it harder for the Jazz to re-sign forward Paul Millsap, right.
