Colts got a steal. Collie was way under-rated. Talented evaluation is a lot of
guessing and opinion until you actually spend time with a player and find out
what he really does or doesn't have.

Knows his game, Collie is smart enough to know that if he pays attention, and
allows Manning to be his critic, he'll probably become a big time asset to

I just hope that Bryce Mccain gets on the field on Nov. 8 when the Colts play
the Texans. Collie will have a huge day if that happens.

Collie has never shown he "couldn't", always that he
"can". Best of luck to him, there's still a lot of work ahead of
him, but he's just the guy. I think the Colts are going to love his uncanny

Some goofy comments. I say lets wait and see how the season turns out for Collie
before it is determined he was underrated or a steal. I hope he does well.
I do think he comes across as a little goofy comparing football to learning Spanish for the mission. Yes, they both involve learning, but they IMO are two very different things to learn.

You are so ignorant. You have never had to learn a second language or an NFL
playbook. Well I have had to do both, and from my experience the learning style
required for both is identical. This analogy is spot on.

Yea, knowing when to cut left and turn up field sure helped me in learning a

Now about this impulse buying spree Bronky is on...
The guy has 9 scholarships remaining and is loaded down with juniors in high school. Might be good athletes , but my money is on Coach Kyle as he has more time to evaluate and give some dark horses another year to develop. His way of recruiting also leaves the door open for transfers, JC players,High school seniors, and returned missionaries.
On paper YBU is leading Utah in recruitment points, but a lot of that is because they have signed so many that have yet to shave.
On the other hand, Whittingham has 18 scholarships left in his bag of tricks and all of the time in the world to sell and sign a more mature & promising student-athlete.
Give it three years and then time will tell how this all plays out , but in my opinion " patience is time well spent."

I was sorely dissapointed in the Colts pick up of Collie- You think they would
have learned after drafting Rob Morris that these guys are overrated and slow,
not to mention he's old so he's already behind! I hope he does well,
because I love the Colts but I don't expect much out of him.

I hated seeing Austin beat my team after an almost sure win with BYU facing 4th
and 18. However, that is in the past.
I'm proud to see so many Ute fans wishing Collie good luck. At this point, despite breaking my heart a few years ago, he is a guy from the state of Utah and a guy from the Mountain West Conference. I hope he wins the starting slot job and that he shines. It makes BYU look better, the state look better, and the conference look better.
Its too bad to see all the BYU fans posting nothing but digs against Utah (ie. ute DB's in training camp @ 7:50). Stop infatuating yourself with the better college team, and start posting relevant comments to this article.

I don't know how anyone can doubt this kid. I mean everyone knew the ball
was going to him and they still couldn't stop him. He hauled in 100 yards
in more games than anyone else last year. Plus he led the nation in receiving. I
have to admit I am very jealous of the colts right now. Why wasn't Dallas
smart enough to pick him?

some people are so stupid. Ripping Collie for comparing learning an NFL
playbook to learning Spanish? "when will this kid stop talking about the
Church blah blah blah". He has been through experiences and succeeded when
it was difficult. Whether Spanish=NFL playbook language isn't the point.
It just means he has succeeded at something difficult. When you succeed at
something difficult it gives you more confidence to do hard things again. I
wondered if Collie would make it in the NFL, but the Colts gifted him by
drafting him. Landing on that team will make his career.

I started reading the comments expecting a bunch of trash from Utah fans about
how Collie would flop. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many were
wishing Collie well. I was equally disappointed to read many Cougars fans
taking shots at the U without provocation and with very little relevance to the
article.

How easy we forget.....Remember the year the Colts won the Super Bowl? Yeah
thats the same year that the Colts were ranked 32nd in the league for rushing
yards. The Colts replaced Gilbert Gardner with Morris and all of a sudden the
Colts make a run into the Super Bowl. I love how quick people forget about what
someone has done or how they helped the team when they were there.

You probably forgot that Rob Morris replaced Gardner that year when they were so
soft on the run and helped the team keep all teams but Chicago under 100 yards
rushing for the playoffs. Amazing how fans can be so short sided. Rob
didn't do it on his own, but he was a huge help, taking the 32nd ranked
rushing defense and just straight stopping the running of the other teams.

There are certainly some idiots who regularly spout off garbage on these boards.
But most BYU fans and Utah fans respect each other's programs, coaches, and
players. We want to destroy each other in November but otherwise want to see the
other succeed. Any fan with half a brain knows the success of each program and
players who move on to the NFL only helps the league and this rivalry. I am a
huge Cougar fan but cheered as loud as anyone as Utah destroyed Bama and also
love to see former Utes do well in the NFL. I hope Smith wins the starting job
in San Francisco and Weddle racks up another 100 tackles for the Chargers. Yeah,
I would love to see most these kids go to the Y but they have all been a credit
to the state and the rivalry and many are wonderful examples for the LDS Church
as college and pro players. As fans we are actually lucky to have such quality
kids and programs. And some of these idiotic comments are actually pretty
entertaining in reality. Go Cougs, Go Utes and Go MWC!!

He should have stayed in school and not broken his commitment to BYU. I hope he

One thing impresses me about that photo. How tall Peyton looks alongside
Collie, because Collie is a legitm 6'1. I always though Peyton's
6'5 was exaggerated by a couple of inches, which is pretty typical. From
this photo it's not.

a fan of all players in the NFL who are from Utah schools. As a BYU fan I wish
the best for Collie, but I also want all others from Utah, or from Utah colleges
to do well. It's fun to look up their stats and see how they perform.

BYU cannot recruit like other programs. Any attempt to compare BYU's
recruiting with that of other programs is flawed.
Gary Crowton proved BYU can recruit top athletes as well as any program in the nation. He also demonstrated that the typical athlete will not abide by BYU's honor code, and that BYU will no longer grant leniency to student athletes (you recall the dozen athletes that BYU suspended during his time).
BYU's first priority must be to bring in athletes who will abide by the honor code. Therefore, BYU's recruiting pool is perhaps 5% of all potential college football players. Because of that limitation, it makes sense to recruit early and hard while they still have their largest pool. For Utah (or any other program) it makes more sense to allow the extra year for athletes to mature and develop before making final selections.
BYU's recruitment straegy will end up with a few busts. However, if they were to wait, they would run the risk of missing honor code capable athletes. The school and fans will not tolerate the mass suspensions that led Crowton out of town.

He made the right decision for himself. He finished last season as the top WR,
what else was left to prove before being drafted? If he stayed he ran the risk
of getting injured, having a less productive season (sharing play with McKay),
or BYU having an awful year.
