I stand corrected. The fans between Sandy and Bountiful definitely agreed that the Utes should have been #1 last year. (key words being-should have)

at least BYU can still grow grass, Utah gave up on it years ago after they couldn't figure out how to keep it nice. (I was at the the 2000 Holy War (read Lavell's last miracle) and the field was a JOKE). you are lucky the olympics brought you an expanded stadium with artificial turf, otherwise, urban meyer would have never stepped foot in utah and things might be very different. not that i hate it, i welcome utah's success, i love it for BYU, for mid-majors, and for college football in the west. i'm actually excited to see the opponents that BYU and Utah play this year. the MWC is rising!

Kind of like judges deciding who plays in a BCS game and votes a team #2. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Wake up yewt fans.
------------------------
Yes those same judges the only difference is in 1984 BYU didn't face a monopoly were they had a ZERO chance of winning a national title. That team today would have made a BCS game but not have won a national title.

The hate spewed between both sides of this rivalry is disturbing. We have some pretty big rivalries in the South, but the people I have seen do not talk smack like they do in the BYU-Utah rivalry. Maybe its just Southern Hospitality.

Anyway, my two cents...

BYU has a better football history in the modern era of college football. The national championship is something to be proud of, though it did come at the hands of a 6-5 Michigan team (though it was an exciting game to watch). BYU has long history of good seasons, but never consistently beat good to great teams. They have been consistently good under Bronco, but have not yet dominated a season to end up in a BCS game.

Utah has dominated two seasons, for which they should be proud, but has been inconsistent in the years between. However, they are a program on the rise.

The point is both are good programs, and it is usually a dog fight during the rivalry game. Let's be civil about it. Both sides' fans feel connections to their particular school, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Oh, and I like natural grass fields.

Ute fans can't be satisfied with a BCS championship season, the jeolousy runs so deep they even have to comment on our new turf, and of course its negative as usual. What makes yours better? Is it some kind of transfer hybrid from manchester Uniteds field. Get a life clueless utes!

You are correct. As a Cougar fan I will admitt that BYU benefited from when they went undefeated. But, tell me, why do yewt fans keep refering to the Sugar Bowl win as the BCS Championship? And all I hear from yewt fans is how myopic BYU fans are. Looks like there are plenty of myopic yewt fans to go around as well. I hope both teams go undefeated next year until they meet. That would be great. Please beat Oregon this year Utah. Their coach has zero respect for the MWC.

"That team today would have made a BCS game but not have won a national title."

Correction: That team today MIGHT have made a BCS game. You are assuming THAT team would have gone undefeated in ANY era. THAT team played the 4th easiest schedule in Div. 1-A. Boise State played a more competitive schedule than that in both 2004 AND 2008, but didn't make the cut.

I would surmise that should THAT team have received a BCS invite, they would have finished no different than the undefeated 2007 Hawai'i team. Sure they put up big offensive numbers against weak competition, but when faced with a quality program, like 2007 Georgia, they would most likely have suffered the same humiliation.

BCS Bowl games are considered "BIG GAMES". And we all know how well the tdS fares in those situations.

Next year, with Oklahoma, Florida St, Utah, and TCU on their schedule, they will have had the opportunity to face 4 ranked teams on their schedule....like the '08 Utes. We'll see how well they do, but are there any zoobies out there that would like to venture a guess?

Nope?

I thought not.

GO UTES!!!
Ute Fans...bye, bye | 4:48 p.m. June 3, 2009
I skipped comment pages 2, 3 and most of 4. One page of drivel from U fans is enough. Get a life and cheer on your team and back away from your BYU obsession. I think we all know you have won the Fiesta Bowl, you have won the Sugar Bowl, you have scoreboard over BYU at least until November 2009. Did I miss anything from your litany of boorishness? Show some class. Post on your articles and cheer on your team. You look like poor winners...and that makes you losers.

I'm glad the Y has the new field and I eagerly await football season.

Go Cougars!
Glory Days | 6:57 p.m. June 3, 2009
BYU won National Championship in 1984-that was 25 years ago. When are Cougar fans going to stop talking about the "glory days" and realize they haven't had a Championship team in 25 years. Some of the players from the 1984 teams are grandfathers.
To sum it all up... | 8:41 p.m. June 3, 2009

1) new turf can not make Cougar team better --Bronco will not smile in Oct, Nov
2) new turf is funded by their rival (Utah) with the BCS payouts from 04 and 08
3) BYU football has not won any big games recently --save it cougar fans, 1984 was 25 years ago and it was not that impressive to begin with.

Any questions? You know who to call...

It just shows to go ya that the Ute "Fans" have no class. It's just grass folks. Grow up.
Re: Go Utes @ 2:34 p.m. | 2:28 p.m. June 5, 2009
I disagree. I believe that if Utah would have had only 1 loss in 2007 (like BYU did in 1983) and not choked against teams like Air Force and UNLV, and started the season ranked, that this year could have ended differently. in 1984 everyone "said" that it could NEVER be done, just like they say today, but BYU did it and prove them wrong. The biggest reason why they were able to do so...23 straight victories! BYU was poised to do it again this year (coming off 10 straight wins in '07, being ranked 7th after only 5 weeks into the season and opportunities to increase by beating a ranked TCU team and finish by beating a top ten Utah team) but they choked just like the Utes did in '07. Unfortunately in Div 1 College football, the previous season(s) have too much weight on the future.
Cant Wait!!! | 7:41 p.m. June 8, 2009
To see how fast Utah looks on this new field.
GO COUGARS! | 1:33 p.m. July 9, 2009
As a HUGE BYU fan and alum I want to know everything that happens with the team and the stadium. And to those who are so worried about it taking away from academic money you should know it did not. My cousin is the Associate athletic director over Finance and it was funded without touching the academic funds. Plus true fans I believe would want the team to have EVERY advantage we can get. I think its embarrasing when people try to say that football wins really arent the reason we are playing cause if they aren't why bother? I hope the BCS should be brought down too! :)
