Ute fans are like the sophmore on a high school football team that catches a touchdoun pass in the fourth quarter that was already over in the third. He talks trash all the next year about how amazing he is but never scores again. Good luck with that. And by the way two years ago utes would kill to go 10-3. I think you suffer from amnesia lucky for you.
Why? | 1:00 p.m. May 30, 2009
first- why post here if you are Utah/anti-BYU fan?
Second- Utah will get 6 maybe 7 wins this year...Coach is already prepping you for it...he's asking the media/fans not to write off last year by this years performance.
End Zones | 1:01 p.m. May 30, 2009
Go back to putting B Y U in the endzones and get rid of all the logos associated with the disasterous 1999 make-over.

Why do most of the posts have to be devoid of any intelligent comments.

For you Ute fans why do you seem to be filled with so much Hate?
Cougar Fan | 1:22 p.m. May 30, 2009
Its so interesting that Ute fans can only talk garbage about BYU and never compliment their own team. I think Utes pay more attention to BYU than their own school. Study your own team, and talk them up. You guys were really good last year, enjoy it! I am willing to admit that. Don't waste your time tearing down your rival out of mere sporting partisanship. Thats all it is. I'll be the first one to acknowledge that the U is now good in football and is building a strong program. Just try to have the same courtesy toward others that others show you.
pathetic | 1:23 p.m. May 30, 2009
90% of these comments are pathetic, its new grass, that's great, but come on Ute fans, you are using this as a way to rag on BYU. What a bunch of pathetic losers, stop paying so much attention to everything BYU does. Get a life.
Gretzky | 1:58 p.m. May 30, 2009
the new turf has nothing to do with play it has to do with decreasing the amount of time spent repairing the sod and the labor involved to deal with the deteriorating conditions. ColoradoState has revamped their turf as well in the past if you watch the .mtn channel piece they did on CSU. it's state of the art just like a new stadium in dallas or Rio Tinto field in Sandy etc etc....it's progress...and this time the taxpayers didn't have to fork over any money...unlike the U of U upgrades...
GOOD FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS NOT 4 | 2:23 p.m. May 30, 2009
All these ute fans are pathetic. They are always trying to one up BYU its sad they have little brother syndrome. The yutes are the neglected child in the family always trying to prove themselves. I never hear BYU fans compare themselves to the u. Why not? There is no need. Two good years doesnt overcome 3 decades of championship football! Understand BYU has been on the national scene since the 70's. The turf looks great and it will look great this November. Whats really going to suck is I agree its going to be tough but when and if BYU goes undefeated we wont be tasting Sugar of Tostitos it will be crystal and the National Championship! Lets just hope that after BYU beats Oklahoma, FSU, and TCU that the yutes will be ranked in the top 25 so it helps us once we destroy them. So little brother try not to go 6-6 this year so we look even better when we go undefeated! Thanks your older well liked and loved brother down South!
TopCougFan | 2:23 p.m. May 30, 2009
Say - with the old turf in place, how did the '08 Cougs ever beat up on UCLA so badly...did they just ingnore the turf and move one...and play with excitement and heart...or was there something they put into the turf to make UCLA play so poorly, way below their talent and ability? I'm just wondering if the Cougs will have the same turn management team in place this year, and pull it out for the Utes...
Anonymous | 2:30 p.m. May 30, 2009
This new turf in LES should give the Utes something to talk about this upcoming fall (seeing as they won't have much to brag about with their own team). Back to mediocrity.
Bronco makes me smile | 2:35 p.m. May 30, 2009
He talks in footnotes and riddles.
Jealous Ute | 2:35 p.m. May 30, 2009
Football was made to be played on the real stuff, not the fake carpet we Utes are made to endure at RES. Utah will still own BYU this coming November, but there is no question the better surface is in Provo and not Salt Lake. Grass beats plastic, but Utes beat Cougars. GO UTES!
Cougbacker | 2:40 p.m. May 30, 2009
wat in the world is ur problem people....the field was old and needed to be replaced...no one is saying it will make the cougs better...wow immature morons... and so what if Utah wins once every three years
Wow | 3:14 p.m. May 30, 2009
Lots of Ute trolls and whiney BYU fans in this thread.

Personally, I am glad they reduced the crown.
Doon | 3:46 p.m. May 30, 2009
BYU has a national championship. Utah fans are trying to create their own mythical championship.... then ridicule BYU's actual concensus one. Nice.
Funded by Utah at the BCS | 3:52 p.m. May 30, 2009
The article did not mention that the funding for the new grass was from the money given to MWC Teams because the U went to a BCS bowl this year.

Before we BYU fans bash the Utes, let us generously thank them for their contributions to our program.

What, no blue grass like Boise State? I'm disappointed....

Utah is the little brother up North, and based on these posts our little brother has a lot of growing up to do.
I love it...... | 6:08 p.m. May 30, 2009
Utes banging heads with the Cougars, even over grass......LOL!!

Cannot wait for head banging on the Football field....LOL!!
What??? | 6:34 p.m. May 30, 2009
Comments have nothing to do with little brotherism or arrogance. Just pointing out the complete and utter lunacy of devoting a 2 web page long story about the glories of the new turf at LES.

Who cares about who was successful last year and who was less successful, point of previous comment was to point out the lap dog mentality lapping up some puff piece on installing new grass in a football stadium. Pro stadiums replaced their grass regularly without having major news stories about it.

P.S. I think they may be replacing some sidewalks up at Weber State this summer, maybe we can get the Desnews to write an article about how much better the Weber experience will be with the new, smooth sidewalks to walk upon. (see, it is ridiculous)
Henry Drummond | 6:42 p.m. May 30, 2009
I was hoping for some of that blue Smurf Turf Boise State uses. Another opportunity lost...
Re:southern Cougar@12:55 p.m. | 7:47 p.m. May 30, 2009
Here's a couple of tidbits to little help you with that Cougar amnesia.

The Utes have beaten BYU head to head 5 of the last 7. Over the last 5, 10 and 15 years Utah has a 60% winning record over BYU.

The Utes are undefeated in two BCS bowl games. BYU has yet to be invited.

While the Cougars may have a fading legacy in college football, The Utes of today have surpassed your Coogs.

The Ute's legacy is today. The Cougar legacy is about 25 years old and quickly fading.
DieHardCougar | 8:16 p.m. May 30, 2009
RE: I love BYU fans
Okay...BYU is 32-7 in the past three seasons combined.
Was that refreshing enough for ya'?
Silly is right | 8:48 p.m. May 30, 2009
6:34,

Theirs a similar article about the Ute's new turf, but you or I aren't reading it because you and I both don't really care about that silly program. A revamped field after 28 years is news. And if Ogden would redo some of their getto sidewalks that would be news too. Silly, is taking time to comment on articles and programs you say you don't care about.
utes following | 9:02 p.m. May 30, 2009
wow. my uncle manages the field at BYU. this upgrade was coming for several years and was paid for from revenue of sellouts over more than 3 years (try and beat that utah). i was wishing for blue or white turf but Bronco hates turf.
Funny Utes | 9:39 p.m. May 30, 2009
The Utes inferiority complex is astounding. Many Ute fans simply can't do anything more than dis BYU.. The first 20 comments on this post are all by Ute Fans. Seriously, don't you have anything better to do than make fun of the grass at LaVell Edwards stadium...

Typical Utes... Typical Utes.

Re:@1255pm | 10:02 p.m. May 30, 2009
If Utah has such a great legacy today, then why are you opening with Utah State and BYU is opening with Oklahoma?
DieHardCougar | 8:16 p.m. | 10:22 p.m. May 30, 2009
Okay... how about this....

Utah is 30-9 in the past 3 seasons, with 3 bowl victories including the thumping of Alabama on a national stage.

But, I suppose you would prefer to be 32-7 with a 2-1 bowl record against weak competition in the nearly anonymous Vegas Bowl.
Mr. Ute 12:12 p.m. | 10:31 p.m. May 30, 2009
I admit it, we have FAKE grass and you have the REAL deal. I hope our team isn't as fake as our grass!!!!
Re: Re:@1255pm | 10:02 p.m. | 10:36 p.m. May 30, 2009
...why are you opening with Utah State and BYU is opening with Oklahoma?

The answer seems obvious... because top teams like Oklahoma and Utah typically schedule an easy victory to open the season....Duuuhhhh.
Re: Mr. Ute@10:31 p.m. | 11:07 p.m. May 30, 2009
Speaking as an authentic Ute, I'm confident our team isn't as fake as you.
Bronco! | 11:09 p.m. May 30, 2009
You think the grass is going to "continue to make us one of the best programs in the country," and that a recruit is going to come look at your grass and say, "wow, this is impressive grass, I'm committing right now coach?" Bronco you crack me up.
PYoung | 12:23 a.m. May 31, 2009
The attention given to BYU by all of the blah blah ute writers encourages me on how afraid they are of the utes not living up to last seasons success. Your pretense dribble and deceptive comments are funny and typical of bush league ute supporters. Real ute fans don't hide behind games of phoney writers. But don't worry you phoney fans. I laugh thinking that the only people you are fooling are yourselves. You probably believe your own tripe. You guys are pathetic. All this garbage over some new grass. I can't wait to see what you will write when they announce the change of new uniform styles. Do you guys actually go to the U of U?
Scott | 12:56 a.m. May 31, 2009
We are 2nd to the brothers up North since we beat them 2 out of the last 3 and soon to be 3 out of 4. We must be 2nd rate.
re Cougar Fan 1:22 p.m. | 3:07 a.m. May 31, 2009
"Its so interesting that Ute fans can only talk garbage about BYU and never compliment their own team...Just try to have the same courtesy toward others that others show you."

Absolutely. Show the kind of courtesy like two years of 'Harline is still open.' You zoobs reek of hypocrisy, talking nothing but trash on Utah threads all year after BYU wins the holy war, but as soon as Utah wins again, its all "Why are you guys in red being so mean?"
oh my gosh | 3:17 a.m. May 31, 2009
There are over 80 comments on this article and 25 on the Utah article. UNbelievable. This isn't the first time it's happened either. It's happened many, many times. The comment ratio on BYU articles compared to Utah articles is literally about 4 to 1, always always always. The Ute comments on BYU articles probably double the number of total comments on their own articles. Sad, sad world.

Do your lives literally revolve around tearing others down? It's no wonder we, or anyone else in the conference or league can hardly stand you.
Re: Scott | 12:56 a.m. | 7:12 a.m. May 31, 2009
Hey Scott - For perspective, let's look at a broader sample of years.

Utah has beaten BYU 5 of the last 7.

For the last 5, 10, and 15 years Utah has a 60% winning percentage over BYU.

Yes compared to Utah, BYU is 2nd rate.
Hey 7:12 a.m. | 8:34 a.m. May 31, 2009
Why do you yewt fans always get after BYU fans for cherry picking years when yewt fans invented it? It's always "why do BYU fans only go back to 1970 when talking about football success?" or " let's take a broader sample and go back 5, 10 or 15 years.". You're such cherry pickers. Why not go back 20, 25 or 30 years? Whatever. Lets talk about notable acheivements. I'll give you your 2 BCS bowl games(not championships) and your two top 10 finishes. Not only does BYU have a NC that yewt fans call mythical, but I have news for you; every NC is mythical by your definition, BYU also has a Heisman Trophy winner, multiple Outland Trophy winners, some O'Brien trophys, a Doak Walker trophy, several top 10 finishes and a footbal legacy that if your precious yewts want to match will take them 30 years of success as a football team, not 5, 10, or 15 years.
Remember new Ute grass? | 10:07 a.m. May 31, 2009
An opportunity has bee missed to compare the process of replacing BYU's turf with the process the Utes went through several years ago. If memory serves: The old surface was scraped off with a bulldozer, then new sod was laid with no surface prep. The grounds crew guy realized what was going to happen and quit. Then the field was opened immediately for the professional soccer season. By the time BYU came to town the field still had no root, smelled like a swamp, and was spray-painted green. A dozen members of the grounds crew would run out at every timeout and replace the "divots" made by the cleats of the offensive line.

Utah may have started with a better drainage system, and the final result is adequate. The difference is that at the first game BYU will have an improved surface.

BYU won that game - Doman-Staley come from behind final drive. (I think Utah missed a field goal on the next drive, someone find the kicker and ask what he thought of the field, now that is a story.)
Hey 8:34 | 10:41 a.m. May 31, 2009
The truth is that BYU has to look at least 20 years in the past for its legacy achievements.

But,if legacy achievement is all you have then I suppose that's what you have to go with. Enjoy...

I prefer current achievement over legacy achievement any day.

Colorado Ute | 11:31 a.m. May 31, 2009
I am embarrassed by my fellow Utah fans. It is sad that we do have a solid football program but bush league fans. Let me help some of my Ute brothers:

1- We have a great football program lets show some class and have a great fan base.

2- Why do we as fans comment more on BYU articles than ones on our own teasm? That is pathetic.

3- The way we act on this posts is making us out to be the pathethic little brother to BYU.

4- The sadest thing is the stupid fans that say BYU has to go back 20+ years and Utah's success is now. Here are the facts: Since 2000 both teams have won the conference 3 times. BYU since 2000 has finished the season ranked in the AP 4 times and we have only finished 3 times. If BYU beat us this year that means they would have won 3 out of the last 4 games. Outside of the Crowton Years BYU has been very good.

Some of my fellow Ute fans need to grow up and get some class and be as good as fans as our teams is.
Ute FAN | 11:57 a.m. May 31, 2009
Just because some Ute fans are stupid, that doesn't mean all Ute Fans are. In honesty, Ute and Cougar football is a lot alike. They are both getting the same returned missionaries and good character of most of the players that people like to stereotype BYU as having. And both have winning programs to be proud of like Ute fans are so proud about. We have it pretty good in our state, except for a few poor fans on both sides.
GO UTES!
Mr. BYU fan | 12:01 p.m. May 31, 2009
All this talk about the Ute's being in the BCS TWICE! Wow! How many National Championships have you won? Enough said.
Hey 11:34 | 12:06 p.m. May 31, 2009
First - Of BYU's four AP finishes the top two were 14th and 16th. Of Utah's three AP finishes the top two were 4th and 2nd. Utah win.

Second - In bowl games since 2000, BYU has a 2-3 record. Utah has a 7-0 record including two BCS games. Utah win.

Third - Since 2000 (your timeframe) Utah is 5-4 head to head against BYU. Utah win.

Fourth - No Ute should ever hesitate to remind Cougars that our team is better than theirs.

Fifth - Have your season tickets to LES arrived yet?
Ute fan | 12:35 p.m. May 31, 2009
The field does look really nice. I'm glad both programs got to upgrade so the Utes no longer have those hideous soccer lines and BYU won't have the crown. It will make for a great atmosphere come November. But changing the turf does not change the fact that it still is Rice Eccles South :)
Utah undefeated 04 & 08 | 2:45 p.m. May 31, 2009
Last good BYU team 1996 when you gutted out a win in the Cotton Bowl (still second tier bowl). Enough said about who is better. Oh I forgot, you beat a 6-5 team for you glory year in 1984, so so sad for you, though you did get a gift that the rest of the football world vowed never to let happen again. Win against the big boys and then you can brag.
Hey 10:41 | 2:57 p.m. May 31, 2009
If you prefer current then maybe you need to forget the Crowton years and your 04 Fiesta bowl. If you define that as current, then once again, you are cherry picking.
DieHardCougar | 3:01 p.m. May 31, 2009
RE: 10:22 p.m. May 30, 2009
No need to send a rebuttal on my comment. I was simply responding to "I love BYU fans" who seems to think that BYU fans' talk about records has to be related to LaVell Edwards or the 70's. Were you paranoid I was bashing on the Utes?
Hey 2:45 | 3:05 p.m. May 31, 2009
Once again you yewt fans cherry pick. BYU has been terrible against top ranked teams since 1996. That will never be forgotten by yewt fans. What seems to be forgotten is that BYU was beating up on top ranked programs long before the yewts. I do believe your coach can back me up on that since he was a player at BYU.
RE: Utah undefeated 04 & 08 | 3:36 p.m. May 31, 2009
Consistently get 10-win seasons and then you can brag.
