Some of the ignorance and venom on this blog amaze me. Glenn Beck is a decent guy who is trying to teach correct principles. If you watch his show you will find that the 912 project actually teaches eternal principles that are firmly grounded in the gospel.

Of course, he's an entertainer. That's what talk show hosts are. But, he is also trying to do something to save this country from the mess we have gotten into since Obama took office. We are clearly on the wrong path and he has been predicting this for years.

He's a voice of reason in the wilderness. Of course, left-wing haters don't like to listen to reason. Common sense doesn't make a dent with them as is evidence by some of the people on these blogs.

Beck needs to clean up his ever increasing foul mouth. His vulgarity is giving the LDS Church a bad name.

If I choose to be a Mormon and believe what the Mormon church teaches, isn't it ok for me to still express my opinions as long as they do not conflict with church doctrine? If I don't claim to represent the church when expressing my opinions, do I still have to fit within others predetermined ideas of what a Mormon should be like? Isn't it ok for us to be a diverse group of individuals with widely varying opinions and personalities and still believe the same doctrine without being called into question as to our devotion to our faith as long as our comments do not conflict with the doctrine? J Golden cussed in church....and we liked it! Let him be himself and be glad that other imperfects are not your judge.

Beck's nothing | 7:01 a.m. May 30, 2009
I can't believe people are ripping on Beck and giving a pass to Oblerman and the other goons at msnbc. Also, if so many people in America disagree with Beck, then why do his ratings keep climbing, while liberal talk radio is in the dumps? We have been over this before, and I guess you'll never get it so nevermind...
Wayne | 7:10 a.m. May 30, 2009
Hurray for Beck! A voice of common sense. The above liberal posts once again reveal their ignorance and low class.
Wrong direction | 7:11 a.m. May 30, 2009
I realize that Beck is heading in the "wrong" direction with the church wanting to appear more moderate on issues like immigration and homosexual tendencies. Why, even Jon Jr. is working for a Democrat these days.
Me? I LOVE Beck. Keep up the good work.
I'd rather stick to conservative politics and lose than move to the left and still lose.
Y | 7:11 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glenn reminds me of the typical LDS that I meet, try to be nice on the outside but as redneck and intolerant towards nonLDS or others who dont think like them
Marcus | 7:11 a.m. May 30, 2009
To Seattle Boy, could you please send me a copy of the professional survey you did that shows that "most of the Mormons in Seattle" disagree with Mr. Beck's views. I would be very interested in seeing the results on that!!!

I think that Glenn Beck does a great job. He does say things with enthusatism, but his thinking on many subjects is absolutely correct!!
Clem Muck | 7:12 a.m. May 30, 2009
The reason Beck's hits on google are up so dramatically is a comment he made last week about the importance of the Temple in his life and what his marriage is really all about. Contrary to some of the comments made, he is not afraid to stand tall for his religion, and the fact that he expresses his opinon, sometimes vociferously, is a true breath of fresh air in a sometimes overly stodgy hypocritically pius atmosphere. Keep on going Glenn!
To Mormon? at 12:37 a.m. | 7:13 a.m. May 30, 2009
Sounds like you need to take a look in the mirror.
What is that word? | 7:14 a.m. May 30, 2009
I know there is a word for someone who acts one way at Church and then at work or in social situations acts and talks completely differently. If you watch his show and see Christ-like love, charity, inclusion and joy, you probably know the word. It just escapes me right now.
Hey Seattle Boy... | 7:22 a.m. May 30, 2009
Most Mormons disagree with him in the greater Seattle area, huh? Did you take a poll? If you disagree with him, fine but maybe you should just speak for yourself.

Just because you feel at home in Seattle with all those left wing tree huggers doesn't mean everyone else who is Mormon in Seattle agrees with you. Mormons everywhere are free to make up their own minds about politics and who they agree with. You come off as naive and holier than thou making sweeping and ridiculous comments like that, though.

Beck may be somewhat over the top in his approach but a lot of what he says is true. Our country is in trouble as the Obama adminstration's proposed plans will surely push an economy and country on the brink over the edge and into bankruptcy. This is to say nothing of the degradation of traditional values in this country which seem to be championed by people, politicians, and judges on the far left.

If that is a platform you agree with and think is best for the country, fine. Just speak for yourself.
Mimi | 7:23 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glen Beck is not hateful. The "ladies" on The View are hateful. Mr. Beck takes a position then shows you the goods (literally drawing pictures) to back it up. And he's amusing while he's doing it.
Ultra Bob | 7:25 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glen Beck is the personification of whats wrong with the LDS church. His preponderance of Hate and enforced patriotism reflects the take over of the LDS church by the anti-American Conservatives.

When I have tried to listen to Glen Beck on the TV, I become so offended by the mans attitude and words that I must shut him off lest I grab up my gun and start killing people.

Some years ago the Conservatives screamed unpatriotic and embolden to or enemies when someone criticized our government. Today as the Conservatives openly call for revolution, I suspect that our enemies are dancing in the streets.

If the world sees Glen Beck as a Mormon, they will see the Mormon church as a church where Hate in the main doctrine.
Embarrassing | 7:27 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glenn Beck seems like a really cool scoutmaster, or something. He's one of those funny, quirky members who is overly fascinated with doomsday.
LDS-Girl | 7:33 a.m. May 30, 2009
One morning as I turned my radio on and herd it was Glenn Beck - I got all excited because he's L.D.S. As I was listening, I became very disappointed for he was and is very foul mouthed and contradicts himself! When I viewed his show, he was acting like a 2 yr. old! Where is the professionalism in his work? THERE IS NONE! EVERYONE watches us as members! Aren't we to be good examples!??! REMEMBER WHAT YOU STAND FOR!!! I DON'T listen to him on radio or watch him because he does curse over the air and I AM NOT IMPRESSED!!I GET MORE FACTS FROM HANNITY and RUSH!!!!Sorry Beck. I tried you out and it just didn't work! AGAIN-- REMEMBER WHAT YOU STAND FOR!!I even herd his views and beliefs on same sex companions implying that they're born that way when in fact what it really is - is an ugly weakness that some people have and need to overcome.

Re: In it for the money/1:28 a.m | 7:34 a.m. May 30, 2009
Just a note to re-word your comments to make them clear.

"Politicians seem like nice enough guys but we all know what they are in it for. They want the most supporters they can get so they can make the most money possible. He seems like he'll do anything for a chance at another dollar.
He sensationalizes everything so much that it makes it really hard to listen to, at least for me. Let the facts do the talking!!"

Shirley | 7:39 a.m. May 30, 2009
He is one of the most brilliant, voices on T.V. Morman or not..If it bothers you he is morman go put your head in the sand. He says it the way it is and if the truth hurts you know what to do. I am not morman but know many mormans and they have there ways and I have mine.Glenn is one smart man and let him do his thing.
Jemmy | 7:44 a.m. May 30, 2009
I can't say I'm a fan of Brother Beck. His arguments are passionate but intellectually weak. He ignores all evidence to the contrary and errors in his logic are hard to ignore.

I believe his popularity is based mostly on his entertaining form of polemic. What we need in this country is serious debate and a serious exchange of ideas. The voices at the extremes have made this a rarity.

I'm LDS but would rather listen to Charlie Rose's more balanced and well reasoned interviews.
Mistaken | 7:45 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glen Beck is not partisan. Anyone who claims such, knows absolutely nothing about this man.

Glen is hated by most people commenting on this board, because he believes in the Constitution and in the principals upon which this once great nation was founded and propered. Principals which are not popular today, principals which are not politically correct, principals which were abandoned by the Democratic Party 50 years ago and by the Republican party 10 years ago.

Glen has more common sense and speaks more truth than the President, both houses of congress, and former governor Huntsman combined. It's just that the truth is not popular these days and look at where our new-found enlitenment in taking us.
Love the guy | 7:46 a.m. May 30, 2009
As CEO of my own company and a fiercely independent thinker, I don't agree with everything Beck says, but I agree with a lot of it.

Those who don't like him are typically liberals, and that's understandable since Beck is a strong, traditional conservative.

Conservatives that listen to him and don't like him is actually also understandable, as he has his own brand of humor that is certain to polarize, but I think it's clever and I often laugh out loud.

Yes, he focuses quite often on what's wrong with this president and the country, but with the crazy unprecedented things that have been happening with our government that's EXACTLY what he SHOULD be focusing on.

Those who think he's motivated by the money, well, how on earth would you know? Your guess about what's in his heart is as good as mine. My guess is that's he's already got his millions, it's not about the money, and he says what he truly believes rather than just what rakes in the dough.

All conservatives should spend some time listening/watching Glenn Beck, he's one talented dude.
Just Typical Now Generation | 7:47 a.m. May 30, 2009
Take, take take, no give to this bunch. This is what we got out of the "big" drug explosion. A bunch of people that think they can have everything new "now" and it's something society owes them. I'm sick of him and his generation. Break them all, it's what they caused.
John Wicks | 7:50 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck is a freak. I don't know why anyone would watch and waste their time on him.
A. E. | 7:50 a.m. May 30, 2009
for paradigms--I watch the show and think he's just another mean guy on FOX. I'm glad the Mormon men in my life have been kinder than Beck's public persona.
Shadow Knows | 7:54 a.m. May 30, 2009
Some time ago I accidently got stuck watching Glenn Beck. At first he was funny, provocative. He was mild mannered and well balanced.

Then when Obama came on the public's radar, Beck's little engine left the tracks. He started huffing and puffing and thinking he could.

Soon he ranted once or twice a week --and got moved up and over to Fox Entertainment. A perfect fit. He now appears on some of their shows as a "guest." Yah, right. This will continue until the star as a meteor runs his course. Sad but predictable.

One day, long ago, as I caught his show while channel surfing, I said to myself, "He's Mormon." I said that because I grew up in Zion as a Christian and I can sense Mormon thinking a mile away on a foggy day at night. He was to the right of logic.

He soon admitted he was. But he has a compelling story, and I am happy the man left the bottle behind. But if one reads the book The True Believer one can easily see that he has moved from one addiction to another. That the way it is.

Re: To all of the above (and below) who are obviously "water packers" for the new socialist movement in America, and Mormon haters:

Beck is by any account a very good family man and role model to his wife and children. Upholds traditional American values - but YOU can't stand him.

YOUR ideology and "values" is why you have Larry King, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Barbara Walters, Rosie O'donnell, etc. etc. So stay tuned to these fine men/women who will always provide you with true journalism and reporting.

Linus | 8:02 a.m. May 30, 2009
Our country, our vocabulary, our moral decency, our currency, and our constitution have been hijacked by the giddy and irresponsible left. The only problem I have with Glen Beck is how pumped he is, when circumstances call for a funereal demeanor as we mourn the demise of America as we knew her.

CHANGE has come to America! And when the wicked rule, the people mourn.
Klonis | 8:08 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glenn Beck normal? This man is over the top and emmulates the mormon peculiar culture. He is a detriment to the pr of the church but he is a true representation of the very sad and bigoted culture of the church.
Unfortunately. | 8:09 a.m. May 30, 2009
He does not well represent his (and my) faith. Sad.
I don't like him | 8:15 a.m. May 30, 2009
and I HAVE watched his show. His temple recommend should be revoked on the grounds that he is NOT honest in his dealings with his fellow men.
Anonymous | 8:16 a.m. May 30, 2009
It's scary if Beck's LDS affiliation is linked to his religion. He is, frankly, unhinged, and with the Church's involvement in the Prop 8 stuff, the perception of the Church being connected to the extreme right will stronger. This is bad for the mission of the Church. It will alienate millions who do not share the same POLITICAL views.
Anonymous | 8:19 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck on Sotomayor nomination: "Hey, Hispanic chick lady! You're empathetic ... you're in!"
Anonymous | 8:20 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck said he was "thinking about killing Michael Moore" and pondered whether "I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it," before concluding: "No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?"
Not good for the LDS | 8:21 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glenn Beck is a narrow-margin hate-filled TV clown who is not representative of ANY Christian religion.

If you've truly watched his show (especially since he's been on the MSM of Fox News), you know that he's doing nothing but spreading hate.

I'm absolutely shocked that the LDS are proud of him, see him as patriotic (has he served in the military?), or even publicize that he's "one of them".

I'm sorry, LDS - but he's preaching to "the base" -- and we all know that one definition of "base" is that it's the lowest common denominator.

I'm sad, LDS, that you believe that kind of base is a good thing.
Anonymous | 8:21 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck to Keith Ellison (Muslim elected to congress)

'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Beck added: "I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."
RedShirt | 8:24 a.m. May 30, 2009
To "Anonymous | 12:06 a.m." so not only is Glenn Beck a more popular search than Obama, but did you know that his TV show is more popular than anything on MSNBC?

Why do you hate him so much? Does it bother you that his investigative reporting is better than what most of the media does?
Get out of Utah | 8:27 a.m. May 30, 2009
Those who think Glenn Beck is "fresh" and "represents what America is feeling" need to get out of Utah and into reality. I draw the line when he is quoted in church! Glenn Beck probably does not even believe half of what he says, he does it because he gets paid a lot of money to be that way. It is unfortunate that people see him and think that is how LDS people think/behave. People like him do more harm than good to our already damaged image. We need more famous LDS people who are moderate. Most of America is not crazy to the right or "socialist" to the left, but moderate. We need to turn off the Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and think for ourselves. Just my opinion, I do not expect many D-news readers to agree. Utah has never been a state known for its rational thinking (just look at our elected officials)and are gullibility to Ponzi Schemes (Franklin Squires)!
Utah Mormon | 8:27 a.m. May 30, 2009
I agree with some (probably many) of the core principles espoused by Beck, but I just can't get past his delivery. It seems like a strange mix of over-sentimentality and fear-mongering. Watching him just makes me want to change the channel.

I'm glad to see some other LDS folks on here who are likewise really turned off by Glen Beck.
Love Him | 8:33 a.m. May 30, 2009
I don't believe Glenn wants the president to fail! I think the president is not very smart about anything that he says or does, thank goodness for the remote control. I am a very active member of the Church and I think the Dems and their friends are loonies, but many are my friends and we don't discuss politics. It's hard for me to believe that any member of the church thinks Glenn's a loon, but I personally know some. Thanks for free agency.
To Re: Mormon Girl | 8:36 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck took a beating on "the View" because he was caught in a lie, and pretty much admitted it. Beck definitely plays fast and loose with the facts.

Beck's show and, hence, his livelihood, is fueled by fear and anger. He and his ilk (Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, etc.) use the same formula: First, characterize (and in some instances create) a controversy that threatens their listeners/viewers; next play fast and loose with the facts to create fear about that controversy, and identify an enemy at which manufactured anger can be directed; convince the listener that theirs is the only program, and they are the only source, from which the listener can get the information they need to combat this new enemy of their creation; stoke the flames of fear and anger until the listener/viewer reaches the point of exhaustion; rinse, repeat.

Those who think Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, et al., represent anything good or praiseworthy are demonstrating that we truly live in an era when we are calling evil "good" and good "evil." Those individuals entire existence depends on unhealthy contention and on digging pits for their brethren. We know the source of those things.
@paradigms 1:43 a.m. | 8:40 a.m. May 30, 2009
I have watched his show. I am not "allergic to common sense." I am a constitutionalist, and very conservative in my outlook. I find Beck disgusting. He is NOT a freh voice of reason. He encourages people to hold on to extremist far-right so-called values. He is a very bad representative of Latter-day Saints. He is an embarrassment, and should work to get a clue.
KAISER | 8:43 a.m. May 30, 2009
Who cares what religion he is? He's nothing but another uneducated, Nazi wind bag. A Rush wannabe who comes off sounding even less intelligent than Hannity...which is no easy task.
Nathaniel | 8:48 a.m. May 30, 2009
Who would have thought that a Mormon would be filled with so much hate and prejudice? Wow, didn't see that coming.
Still LDS | 8:49 a.m. May 30, 2009
I am glad Bro. Beck keeps his membership on the DL when he talks about politics and I hope it stays that way. I do not take him too seriously because he is an entertainer and business man who makes a good living by pushing people's buttons. The only thing that depresses me is his high popularity among Saints, particularly the brothers.
RI Reader | 8:53 a.m. May 30, 2009
Can't help but add a few more "liberal" words to this: those who know Bro. Beck from church will tell you his personal life and public life are not the same. I think he does represent the church well as "member" Beck. I've heard from those who know him that he really is a great human being.

That being said: he has certainly found the Holy Grail of television and radio talk show hosting - loudly carry on a far right (or far left) diatribe, and people will beat a path to your spot on the dial. More people - more advertising doallrs - more wealth for the host.

But he is entertaining in the way a train wreck is entertaining. I am embarrased for him and his loud, rude and false opinions! I have tried to watch, because he is a "brother", but he is wrong to advocate his far-right, wacky opinions. He is advocating the over throw of the US Government (not a mormon doctrine, by-the-way) through the failure of Obama and the uprising of gun owners. Very un-American. Very wacko. Very dangerous stuff.

So I exercise my right to just not watch.
Sick and Wrong | 8:55 a.m. May 30, 2009
My wife, who is Mexican, watched one of his old HLN anti-immigrant rants posted on Youtube and promptly exclaimed, "He can't really be a member of OUR CHURCH, can he?"

Couple that with his absolute lie on the View and his potty mouth (always saying the b-word and is "p'd off"), he is a liability to the LDS Church. I don't claim him. HE DOESN'T SPEAK FOR ME nor any of the LDS left.
Anonymous | 8:56 a.m. May 30, 2009
He's a nutball entertainer. That's all. Not a pundit. Not a journalist. Not even an informed opinion.

But he is also a huckster, positioning ads as editorials.

but his followers probably don't know the difference. (and have made him tons of money - of COURSE he wants Obama to fail. he is financially invested, through his sheep, in that)
Klaus Hansen | 9:00 a.m. May 30, 2009
Given that I despise Beck's ideology with every fiber of my being, it is heartening to know that there is room for both of us in the same church.
??? | 9:03 a.m. May 30, 2009
This is news? Who cares! If he were not LDS this would not rate as a story. What other paper would carry such a lame article about a marginal TV personality?
