People are surprised to find out that even with all the peculiarities of Mormonism, Mormons themselves are just normal people in so many other ways. It may be hard for the person who has been steeped in the Anti-Mormon rhetoric or Mormon myths to realize that the the stereotype doesn't always match reality.

Oh no, Glen Beck is a Mormon? Beck really took a beating on The View!
Erm... | 11:51 p.m. May 29, 2009
I'm sure Glenn Beck is a decent guy, but this active Mormon can't stand to listen to his radio show.
Anonymous | 12:01 a.m. May 30, 2009
We need some sensible mormon voices out there. The world is upside down and needs all the help it can get.
I hope not! | 12:19 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glen Beck may be Mormon but it's hard to tell he is by some of the things he says on his program.
George | 12:28 a.m. May 30, 2009
Their calling George Wythe a university these days? I guess bringing Glen Beck to speak is a step towards the right direction.
Timothy | 12:31 a.m. May 30, 2009
His voice is about as sensible as Alice was in wonderland, and about as funny...His show is all about how bad the world is,we better be scared of the boogey man,(i.e. the government)were all going to be unemployed and destitute, the gays are taking over, and the mexicans serve bad food in their taco wagons..Of course his public persona could be,as is true with so many entertainers,a complete mask of his real self...However if he is really what he seems to be,I would stand away from him during a thunderstorm, because,at the very least,he is not a shining example of christian character and virtue..He has said that the church saved him from drug addiction, and if that is so I applaud him for getting his life in a better place, where he can heal;but as far as humility goes,i think a talk with his bishop will not harm him at all...Ridiculing people and their positions is par for talk show hosts, not so for one who professes a relationship with the Lord...
Mormon? | 12:37 a.m. May 30, 2009
Now we know whare the hate and intolerance he has comes from !

Glen Beck and I live on different planets. Mine is Earth.
Anonymous | 12:49 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck is sensible? He wants failure from the President and the economy to stay bad just so he can say, "told you so!" I find it funny that his predictions for this administration were way off and it looks as if he and all of the conservative pundits will eat their words. My bet is that when the economy does turn drastically better the conservative mouth pieces will praise Bush and Reagan, "If not for them none of this would have happened."
seattle boy | 12:54 a.m. May 30, 2009
Great...people are starting to find out that Beck is LDS. Do you realize how stupid he sounds?
But, that is the beauty of the Church today. There are so many different opinions, political views, and income levels in our wards and stakes. Unfortunately, most people in Seattle think that all Mormons think like Glenn Beck and agree with every word he says. Fortunately, though, it gives me plenty of oppurtunity to explain to my friends and co-workers that I'm a praticing Mormon who strongly disagrees with Mr. Beck's views and so do most of the Mormons in Seattle.
Mormon | 12:55 a.m. May 30, 2009
I am a mormon, I do go to Church but I simply can't stand this Glenn Beck guy.

Actually I wonder if he is an asset or a liability to the LDS Church image.
yes the world | 12:55 a.m. May 30, 2009
is upside down, but not the way you think ... beck is a symptom, not a solution ... he's no better than the other conservative liars (e.g., hannity, coulter) ... wake UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lew Jeppson | 12:58 a.m. May 30, 2009
Oh, and I understand Brother Beck will be the host of this year's Stadium of Fire, which is definitely not a partisan event.
Re: Mormon Girl | 1:04 a.m. May 30, 2009
Of course Glen took a beating on The View. Anybody who believes in family values, religion, right to life, constitutional government is going to take a beating on the view. Those girls are nothing but a bunch of foul-mouthed, flaming, pro-abortion, socialist, liberals!
Anonymous | 1:06 a.m. May 30, 2009
Amen anonymous. I feel like we're living in some authors distopian novel where everything is backward. Beck is another inflamitory voice just like rush and hannity.

Didn't Beck pull his book or magazine out of deseret book after some of his supporters found out it was a Mormon store? And doesn't he avoid praise of Mitt Romney for the same reason. "Focus on the Family" sounds nice and all, but that group has turned a very cold shoulder on the Mormon church. Sometimes I think some liberal groups would be more accepting of us than the southern conservatives.
He's Mormon but... | 1:09 a.m. May 30, 2009
He's Mormon, but that is the only way I'd ever want to be associated with this guy. I was forced to listen to Beck at a previous job. Not funny, Not Smart. How come it is impossible for Conservatives to be funny? Dennis Miller...not really. Ben Stein, ok there's one.
In it for the money | 1:28 a.m. May 30, 2009
Glenn Beck seems like a nice enough guy but we all know what talk show hosts are in it for. They want the most listeners they can get so they can make the most money possible. He seems like he'll do anything for a chance at another dollar.

He sensationalizes everything so much that it makes it really hard to listen to, at least for me. Let the story do the talking!!
irishman | 1:31 a.m. May 30, 2009
I am very glad that the mold and culture never fit as one would think, as stated by Anonymous 12:01 am, ""this world is upside down"" and to add my own words {If we started treating people, as people, and not a culture or mold of life, we would not be in an upside down fruity world with EVERYONE, as we are today}... Kinda like a Pineapple Upside Cake, it what's inside that make the desert.(PERSON)!!
paradigms | 1:43 a.m. May 30, 2009
Those who don't like the man, have obviously not watched his show. Those allergic to common sense may not like him however. He is a regular guy, passionate, and self-effacing. He is a fresh voice of reason, who encourages others to hold fast to core values.
Rosie | 2:14 a.m. May 30, 2009
Wow, I can understand the hate coming from the leftists, but 'Glenn Beck needs to talk to his bishop?!' Give me a friggin break, you self righteous nitwits.
My hubby is a non member...and the only thing that has really gotten him interested in the church is Glenns down to earth sense of humor. He's glad to know that you don't have to be a stuffed shirt to be a member of the church. (My hubby is a recovering liberal & we have tickets for the comedy tour...can't wait!)
Jozef | 2:14 a.m. May 30, 2009
A disaster for the image of the Church, not only in the U.S., but especially from the international perspective. The more he will be known as Mormon, the worse for missionary work and for the recognition of the Church elsewhere.

Beck is a cheap demagogue, appealing to insecure people who are afraid of diversity and tolerance and who thrive on an outdated concept of nationalism. The Church struggles to be accepted in many lands. To be identified with Beck's radicalism is not helping.
Anonymous | 2:15 a.m. May 30, 2009
We have Glen Beck and we raised $20 million for Proposition 8 in California.

I'm so proud of who we are.
Scottaj37 | 2:29 a.m. May 30, 2009
I used to cast off Beck as an alarmist.I'd listen to him once in a blue moon..until the economic collapse he predicted a year or two ago (and other things he predicted) came true. Now I listen to him a little more seriously and he is making sense. I listen to different opinions and his facts hold up on many things.
Have watched his show, | 2:32 a.m. May 30, 2009
and though he may be a nice guy in his personal life, I am so incredibly disappointed in his sensationalist, crass behavior. I do not think it is fitting for a Latter-day Saint to be so rude and low-class. I feel he has changed so much from being a genial voice of reason to a peddlar of fear and crude innuendo. I wish he would moderate his tone, and give thoughtful commentary and criticism. He is certainly free to say whatever he wants, but I have lost all respect for him as a commentator, and as a fellow Christian. For him to be a missionary and be calling people names as he does constantly is appalling to me. He needs to grow up !!
Aaron | 3:08 a.m. May 30, 2009
My fellow liberal mormon friends, someday you will have to choose the government or your church I hope you choose the latter. Anyways Glenn Beck rocks and he's a decent guy, so get off his back.
Stalwart Sentinel | 3:20 a.m. May 30, 2009
He's an embarrassment to our Church, plain and simple. He hurts our faith's credibility.
JO | 4:58 a.m. May 30, 2009
The reporter for this story should think more carefully before writing. Of course Beck is googled more often than Obama. People google things they don't know about, not things they do know about. It is a silly, meaningless comparison.
CP | 5:02 a.m. May 30, 2009
I really enjoy Glenn Beck. And I'm glad tht he's not afraid to stand up for good values. Something that seems to be missing alot in the world today. He's a breath of fresh air in comparison to others.
GWB | 5:20 a.m. May 30, 2009
Yes Glen Beck is a normal guy, one that could complain about how President Barack Obama is destroying this country and be so passionate about it thatit brings him to tears.

Then a few days later he has no problem going to the White House Correspondents Dinner with the President as the headline speaker and sit and laugh and clap at the President's jokes.

I guess he wasn't too worried about socialism when he was the beneficiarly of a free dinner.
EXCUSE ME? | 5:28 a.m. May 30, 2009
Uh-
All you haters need to take a look at the numbers.

FOXNEWS GLEN BECK 2,009,000

FOXNEWS BAIER 1,871,000
FOXNEWS GRETA 1,834,000
FOXNEWS SHEP 1,787,000
MSNBC OLBERMANN 1,298,000
MSNBC MADDOW 1,029,000
CNNHN GRACE 915,000
CNN COOPER 852,000

I guess liberals can't stand a Mormon being loved 3 times as much as their least speakeasy.

BECK FOR PRESIDENT 2012
Incredulous | 5:34 a.m. May 30, 2009
The DN breaks the news that Beck is Mormon! What's next? The Pope is Catholic! Obama is a liberal!
Bears really do . . . in the woods!
To all the critics | 5:35 a.m. May 30, 2009
I find it highly ironic that you are bashing Beck for his bashing of bad politics and politicians.

Glenn Beck is right on most topics. He has done more to influence the church fo good than 99% of members will.

Jim | 5:43 a.m. May 30, 2009
Who cares? Outside of Mormon's who want bragging rights ?

As an active LDS I could see his unique mission here on earth from an eternal perspective! Awesome! Spunky Fresh face I love him! I met him in person. He gave me a bear hug he has a big heart he cares deeply about you, me, our future, especially our children. He is doing the job very well. His position serves God very well. I sincerely believe! Glenn, if u are reading this as one of ur most loyal fans- I love you so much! Keep up the good work! May the riches of eternity be yours! God bless u always in all u do!

I have read his autobiography and it was most interesting. I am not really into him because I dont listen much to him or rush etc. I have very limited time and so I dont get that much of a chance to listen to his program. But I must say he is alot better than rush who I cant stand.
Tom | 6:05 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck is just another opportunist who has found an audience of angry people who's lives haven't turned out according to their expectations. People who have done everything everyone told them to do, and still aren't happy. They wonder why, become angry, and need to blame someone, because of course, it couldn't be their own fault. Beck provides them with someone to blame.....liberals and the left.
Pennsylvania Mormom | 6:08 a.m. May 30, 2009
I "found" Glenn Beck on my local radio station a few years back when he was I think in Florida. Back then, I had no idea he was LDS. I remember thinking to myself, wow, a talk show host with values? Yes, he is opinionated, but so are the other talking heads. One thing though, a friend stood in line to get a copy of his autographed book and he was not very friendly. Note to Glenn - others are watching you and you need to remember that there are people spending their hard-earned money to purchase your books, attend your shows, etc. And not just the "important" people, or the people at the front of the line, remember those "at the end of the line", too.
Gibster | 6:08 a.m. May 30, 2009
Beck Rocks= Finally a refreshing voice in the world of conservative talk radio and Fox News. He is still much less abrasive and more pratical than either Limbaugh or Hannity. How would you like this guy to teach you the new member lessons??
elwood johnson | 6:08 a.m. May 30, 2009
For some reason a lot of church members think this clown is the all knowing voice of reason. Give me a break. This guy's story could be played out in any Ward in the church. They don't ware there past lives like a badge of courage. The problem is many people think this guy realy knows whats going on in our country. That is the scary thing about him.
Harry is an embarassment | 6:18 a.m. May 30, 2009
All these posters saying Glen Beck is an embarassment! How about Harry Reid and his support for Barack's socialist agenda. Even Pravda is calling Obama a socialist. Who would have thought GM and Chrysler (and the banks) could have been nationalized?

Someone (thanks, Glen) needs to shine the light on the Chicago-like corruption taking over Washington DC and this country. The average citizen has no clue about ACORN and our tax dollars that are going into signing up phantom voters so Democrats can subvert the democratic (small "d") process.

Harry Reid is much more of an embarassment to the Church than is Glen.
Anonymous | 6:26 a.m. May 30, 2009
To paradigms at 1:43: I have watched his show and the man is full of vitriol, paranoia, and ill will. He hates gays, immigrants, the poor and dispossessed, and anyone who opposes his radical agenda. I can't believe we share the same church.
Joe | 6:27 a.m. May 30, 2009
The constant self-adulation and neo-McCarthy-ist rhetoric is shameful. Mormons should be embarressed that Glenn Becks is one of their flock.
Spokane cougar | 6:28 a.m. May 30, 2009
I agree with "paradigms". Most of these anti-Beck people get on the far-left wed sites or just listen to liberal thinking people and do not have a mind of their own. As far as the comments from Seattle boy, we here on the East side of the state just laugh at you on the left coast. Just look at what happened at Christmas time and how this state (Washington)is quickly catching up to California as far as being nothing more than a big bowl of granola. What ain't fruits and nuts is flakes. Glenn Beck may be a little zany, but listen to the message. I didn't like the guy at first, but after a while I could see that he just has a different way and telling us what is really going on.
GLEN FAN!!!!! | 6:44 a.m. May 30, 2009
I love the guy and have listened to his youtube interview, which was very sincere and touching!

I am proud to have him as a Brother in the Gospel!
