The state of Utah claimed that they took over the trust but that this is a lie is demonsrated by what they did next. They put in private proerty reform and ended the religious qualification. What the state of Utah did was a violation of the first admendent.

Warren Jeffs stole a bunch of money and ignored the lawsuits. He banished people that had contributed their life's savings and work into the trust and were left with nothing. The state had no choice but to take over the trust.

The stae of Utah by no means violated the first amendment. They moved to protect the rights of the people that contributed to the trust.

Huh? | 1:06 p.m. April 21, 2009
when the government steps in to "protect" people from their religioun, something is really wrong. Government has no right to dictate how peoples' freewill religious tithes and contributions are spent - strange as it may seem to you, tithes etc are to be used as the FLDS prophet sees fit - to build up whatever stake he chooses and to support his family and whoever elses family he chooses. The trust was set up for "FAITHFUL" members-apostates to the faith relinquished their rights to the benefits of the trust when they apostatized. By reforming the trust without the consent of the faithful members or church leaders - the judge violated the constitution and overstepped the bounds of her office.

RE: huh?

I am open minded when it comes to any kind of religion. I don't know much about trust's or how they are ran, but the government has the right to step in and correct the problem, until all the lawsuits and troubles are fixed. Is it fair? Probably not if you live with the folks that rely on the trust to meet the needs of prophet and followers. There are so many small detailed government laws, that most don't make sense. The government sometimes doesn't consider how hard people have worked over the years and how much money was contributed to the trust. Considering all of the lawsuits and problems, the government needs to set something up to where the people of the flds can contribute to the church funds and see that the funds are spent on what the flds people or church wants, with out all of the problems that have aroused. I hope it all works out for all parties, so things can get back to normal for everyone.
