So when Buttars says that the gay threat is the single-most important issue facing America today, why is it that is called "freedom of speech" and we're not allowed to ask for his resignation, since we don't approve of the way he represents us?

Yet when HBO wants to exercise its free speech and run a show about certain Mormon aspects, its ok to cancel subscriptions?

Mormon hypocrisy run amok.

And what Mormon subscribes to HBO in the first place? To watch "Sex in the City"?
LDS | 7:14 p.m. March 15, 2009
What's wrong with watching Sex in the City? I like the show. I can be a worthy member and watch Sex in the City.

Maybe you oughta ask Chris Brown if he believes that now.

If that's true, then I can be a worthy member and support Prop 8.

To Re LDS,

Yep. You sure can. I am.

Sorry Bub..but the world is a BETTER place with HBO. The world would be a better place without you spewing your religious drivel.

We'd LOVE to leave. You people make for terrible friends, co-workers and neighbors if someone is not LDS.
You alienate, you judge, you presume to be head and shoulders above the crowd. You are very full of yourselves. Too bad there isn't a free thinker among you. You are all clones...robots, ants, sheep.
You mechanically go through life, being told what to do where to go, when to do so, and you never question.
You are manipulated like puppets.
How do I know?
I lived that lie for 38 years. But I wised up and got away from the dangerous cult. I am free, I have time to devote to hobbies, friends, family. I make decisions without word from the top. I vote my conscience, not what I am dictated. I am healthier, my marriage is soaring, my kids are real people.
Work keeps us here, but believe me, you have alienated all true Christians, and normal people.

Re "8:53 a.m" | 9:16 a.m. March 16, 2009
I don't know what church "8:53 a.m" went to for 38 years, but I've been going longer than that and I've NEVER been dictated how to vote.

I think "8:53 a.m" may be imagining things.

And if we make such terrible friends, co-workers and neighbors... Why do so many praise the friendly warm atmosphere they experience when visiting or relocating to Utah? (members of other faiths included)

I think your own personal attitude can make any people you want seem terrible (to you).

I'm sure there ARE some terrible LDS people out there, but for the most part, they're no more "terrible" than any other people (as an entire group).

Just say "NO" to HBO!
realitycheck | 10:28 a.m. March 16, 2009
why are you people upset? It's not polygamists going through LDS temple rites. it's FLDS going through FLDS temple rites.

You both have the same temple rites. You're both mormons. The only difference between you and FLDS is polygamy and a couple of rules.

stop saying they went through LDS temple rites. They went through their own FLDS rites - but the rites are so similar you can't really tell them apart.
You're right | 1:08 p.m. March 16, 2009
you can't hardly tell them apart because of a simple things that the LDS rarely admit: The FLDS are very similar to the church that Joseph Smith organized! He is the leader that both churches recognize as the orginal leader of their church! It's not hard to understand, but they just don't want to understand it because they will have to face the facts about their past polygamy and how ridiculous it is!
Elementary School | 5:33 p.m. March 16, 2009
After reading the anti-Mormon comments here, I feel like I'm back in elementary school watching a crowd of prepubescents chanting "fight, fight, fight" and mocking the little kid with the bloody nose.

What really drives most of these pathetic schoolboy taunts is that these individuals have no legitimate justification for HBO portraying sacred religious rites. Apparently "inflammatory" is the new "entertaining." I wonder what's next.

It's sad that there are actually people who take pleasure in other's pain.
To: Elementary School" | 6:15 p.m. March 16, 2009
I agree there are some that can say some hurtful things. But I feel more that this is a case of "truth hurts" more than anything else! And further, people that have been hurt often lash out (such as bullys), but the difference is that bullys are not usually telling the truth. And I don't see any real untruths here. So people should analyze why this talk hurts them and why.

I've been a member my entire life and since I started voting, I have never ever been told by my Bishop, Stake President, Seventy, Apostle or the President of the Church how to vote. The other is that in the area where I live we, the members are a very slim majority. We have breakfasts, play sports and are even invited to friends own dealings. I decide if I'm going to go to a particular party of if I'm going to befriend someone. I have to live with that decision, not the church or the people I come in contact with.

I respect others beliefs as much as my own but I decide what I want to hear and not hear. That is left up to me. God gave that right to me. I don't drink alcohol, smoke or drink some other things, not only because the church says so but because I have learned for myself these things are not good for me. The decisions I make are mine to make and I live my life according to my own beliefs. I believe in Prophets and that there is one alive today.
That's good Bill | 7:08 p.m. March 16, 2009
And nobody's saying those things are not good attributes to have. What we are saying, however, is that there are some things at church that are untruths and sometimes hurt people. It is good for people to face that and try and make the necessary changes to face the truth and make needed changes/reformation. It is well documented that almost all religions have had to do this because their teachings cannot face all the challenges of the 21st century (or even the 20th century). Your own church had to face the fact that it had been discriminatory (well, they didn't really say that so instedad they talked of "revelation". I don't believe in "revelation", but instead in "realization" and I believe that even your religion will realize someday soon of some of it's ridiculous claims and teachings.

I like to read the comments here. It seems there are a lot of people smarter than I am; RealityCheck is brilliant. "That's good Bill" is obviously smarter than I am b/c he/she has been able to see through the myth of religion. Incredible accomplishment! And, while LDS church members are intolerant and judgmental, many of The Church's detractors have been able to transcend such petty behavior and b/c of this are able to advise the rest of us on our behavior. It's nice to have a resource like the comments on Des News to keep myself in my place! Thank you!

Good for you. You tell em now. You go get HBO. They will be so sad that you got rid of your subscription! It is your right to do so, just like it is their right to show something on TV. It isn't against the law so stop whining.
To Bill at 6:20 | 10:23 a.m. March 17, 2009
Man..you were on FIRE! Cruising right along smoothly, and then ...BLAM! Right into the wall!!
Hard to imagine a regular everyday church executive businessman can be a prophet. And you people parade these "prophets" through like it's TRUE, or something.
C'mon, Bill.

Wow! There are some really mean and vicious posters on here. Leave the believers alone.
And miss all the excitement? | 10:02 p.m. March 17, 2009
I thought blogs were to share ideas and further, I don't see any "vicious" posters. I see people telling their feelings. If someone doesn't want that what are they doing on a blog?
