Too bad the Mountain West Conference couldn't use some of the Utah Sugar Bowl windfall to send these great representatives of our state to the inaguration.

Why doesn't the article mention that local company USANA donated the remainder of the money this morning so they could go? Seems like good point info out by the des news.

it's really good to know that it costs $150,000 to go across country. and its good to know that people are starving in our streets here in slc but people will rally to send a band across this country but not help a starving person or less than fortunate child in need

I can't wait to hear "Utah Man" being played for the President.

I think most people realize their are social issues that every city has that need more resources. The difference is that they are ongoing and many citizens do give and donate time to them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the idea of corporations and citizens raising money to reward a group of young people the chance of a lifetime to play at a historic inauguration.

raining on their parade? yes indeed... why not rain on it since they are already on a pity pot? waa waa we aren't ranked number 1 boo hoo! let's sue! c'mon there are alot more serious issues that need attention more than whether a college football team is ranked number one and how to get the band to go play at a historical event. well let them play at liberty park! it will still be a historical event! highest number of drug busts highest unemployment rate highest losses in the stock market highest rate of homeless indeed historic! the U of U band should play concerts for charity! nope probably won't happen will it?

If those starving people worked as hard to get money as the Utah marching band they wouldn't be starving. I understand times are tough but it's crazy to think that if someone puts in as much time and effort as the band or the fundraiser that they would have nothing to eat. Get your socialistic ideas out of this forum and get to work. That is capitalism!

The band supports the football team every home game and some away games, including the Sugar Bowl. Why didn't the football team cough up a little of their millions in bowl money to support the band?

Thank you to all who have donated. These young people, my daughter included, will have a wonderful and once in a lifetime experience.

I can't imagine a better group of young men and women to represent our state at this historic occasion. Of course, I may be a little biased!

The WARMEST THANKS goes to Sherman Smith and his neighbors and friends in Ashburn, VA for taking our sons and daughters into their homes and feeding them. How can we even come close to thanking these people for their heartwarming and loving generosity?
They deserve a "Parental Medal of Honor" for going above and beyond the call of duty!!!
I sleep easier tonight knowing my son is in the care of such wonderful people.

EVERY supporter out there should know that you made a big difference in these young people's lives and gave them something they will remember and cherish forever.
