Nudity isn't something to be paranoid about. It's natural. So why they phobia? Or do you only have a problem with it when there's sexual conotation tied to it? Then again I might be asking the wrong person... I'm guessing you might feel that any and all nudity is bad.

It's too bad you don't really know Tyson. Just do you know half of what he says is sarcasm, but at heart he's a good guy. It's not his fault he's so damn sexy. So just appreciate his body and have fun watching him make lots of people laugh.
Amanda | 4:35 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009
Oops I meant to say Just "so" you know. Anyway good luck Tyson, and your pants are a bit low, but whatever.
Wow | 4:51 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009
Utah County on the warpath. Don't you self-righteous idiots know that these reality shows are scripted. He has won a part, just like any other actor. I sure feel sorry for young women who can't watch the Olympics because it might compromise their purity. Good grief.
I don't get it | 5:10 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009
People are attacking this young fellow. Who , yes! is certainly in love with himself. But, nobody is criticizing "Deseret News" who published the picture in the first place.
Am I missing something?
Anyways, good luck Tyson!

With all the serious problems in the world right now, I can't believe you're all so concerned and worked up about this insignificant guy! If you don't like him or Survivor, then don't watch it! Why do some people have to use Mormon values as such a soap box?
LAUGHING | 5:38 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009
IT'S A GAME PEOPLE, JUST A GAME. DON'T HAVE A HEART ATTACK OVER IT.
If you claim it - live it | 5:51 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009
If a person claims to be a Mormon he can be held to Mormon standards. (i.e. For the Strength of Youth standards - too much skin for that!)

If he wants it known that he served a Mormon mission we must assume he has made promises to God to behave in a way that sets him apart from the "world". Lying and cheating because it's only a game is a pretty lame excuse for breaking promises. If it were "only a game" money would not be involved.

To the "judge not" crowd. You are judging too. You judge that what this guy is doing is fine. Others of us judge that he is representing the LDS religion very poorly.

If he didn't claim to be a Mormon - and especially a return missionary - there wouldn't be any standard he would be accountable for.

Tyson, hope you heard Jeff Probst advice and learned to make fire! Remember how many people people have lost due to not being able to make fire. Good Luck!

You sound just like my dad (who died 2 years ago). Everytime we'd be watching "Survivor" and were acting all interested or involved, he'd spout off about it being scripted and "they're just actors" etc.

No it's not. And no, they're not actors... they're regular everyday people.

Like many other reality shows, it's no different than "The Price is Right"... "Survivor" might be called a "reality" show, but really it's just a game show too (people are playing a game to try and win money). Like other game shows, there of course is no script.

Where you might get the impression of a script is due to the fact of how the producers present it. They take hours upon hours, day after day of live film footage and edit it all into an entertaining to watch product. So just because it looks all polished and dramatic doesn't mean it's fake.

They really are playing for the money. And there is no pre-destined (scripted) winner.

This is pretty much how it is for all so called "reality" shows (most really belong in the game show or talent show category).

After reading the comments in this thread, I'm embarrassed to call myself a Mormon. I've never seen such judgmental, narrow-minded, and ignorant comments. Start practicing what you preach - and stop judging others. Tyson I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for being real. Thank you for being comfortable enough in your own skin to talk about how you benefited from your mission, and at the same time, pose with your shirt off. Thank you for being honest enough to let everyone know you're going to do whatever it takes to win. Again, best of luck to you!

Good Heck, leave the guy alone. Everyone is just jealous they are not on Survivor themselves or have that great of a bod. I think Tyson will do great. He is a great guy who has an awesome personality. And yeah, I do know him so back off. Just because he isn't the typical BYU boy doesn't mean he isn't a great person. And Survivor is a GAME, a GAME people, not the end of his life.
Hmmmmm | 10:18 p.m. Jan. 16, 2009
I love that everyone has to bring religion into this. Did it ever occur to anyone that this is the very reason people fall away from the LDS church. Judgements? Who are you? We all have our free agency to make "our own" choices. We don't make them for anyone else. And nor do we need to pin someone "unworthy" of certain blessings. No one is perfect. We all make stupid decisions. I think Tyson will represent who he is in due time.
Skip Bo | 10:24 p.m. Jan. 16, 2009
Lying and cheating is just part of this game; it's how it is won. So all you people that have a problem with it, just remember the next time you're playing Skip-Bo for FHE that it says in the rules that it is ok to cheat, if you don't get caught. By the way, Tyson is very good at Skip-Bo and I believe that was probably his best preparation for this game. We'll be rooting for you Tyson.

Im guessing "shocked" has very repulsive looking daughters, this is just a game.
just a mom | 3:14 a.m. Jan. 19, 2009
Sorry, but I am still really disturbed about "Shocked" not letting her daughters watch the greatest American Athlete..Ever... during the Olympics... because of his swimsuit....? As a mom there are sooooo many learning/teaching moments that come along in any given day. If it's something that you oppose, tell your children, teach them, but don't create an unreal world for them to go out into one day. I worked with a young girl who was raised in a very "Shockingly" strict home, she came to BYU and within 6 weeks was stoned half the time, drunk the other half and was pregnant. Sad thing was, she had no idea how any of those things happened. GOOD LUCK "Shocked"
tyson is awesome=tysome | 11:27 a.m. Jan. 19, 2009
i think maybe "shocked" and "anonymous" felt they were doing the right thing by getting online and criticizing and berating a human being they didn't even know. the topic of garments should not be on display for anyone to see. THAT is more appalling then tyson standing w his shirt off. not only that he has a family who probably reads this and hopes people know how great tyson is. only one persons judgment matters and it's none of ours.

DUDE YOU ARE MY COUSIN...FREAKIN GOOD LUCK MAN!! I'LL BE ROOTING FOR YOU OUT HERE IN THE MISSION FIELD. KEEP YOU SHIRT OFF! REPRESENT THE FAMILY WELL DOG!!

I've been waiting for 18 seasons for an endowed member to appear on Survivor. Not single 21 yr old women, not gay men. Interesting that CBS finally casts one who is self-described as arrogant and willing to lie and cheat. Is the liberal media playing into the hands of the post-Prop8 anti-Mormons? Trying to cast us all in a bad light? Maybe, maybe not.

Regardless, I know if was playing Survivor I may be inclined to lie if needed. And I'm an active High Priest. It's no different than basketball - if I fake right and go left, am I "lying"? Or if we're playing Uno and I let you believe my last card is green when it's actually red, am I "lying"? It's just a GAME!!

If I were on Survivor, I'd keep my shirt on, but I'm 270 lbs. But seriously, many active, faithful Priesthood holders take their shirts off at the beach or the swimming pool. Let's not get our panties in a knot (speaking of underwear ...)

And even if Mr. Apostol has different standards than the rest of us, that's his prerogative.

P.S. I'd rather be caught naked than with only my temple garments on.

I'm grateful I have not wasted one minute of my life watching this show.
Nhil | 4:08 a.m. Feb. 15, 2009
I don't know this guy so I don't know how good he is or how bad he is. But one thing for sure, I know the standards he SHOULD BE living. And is he living it by posing shirtless when he should not? I dont think so. Is he living it by getting NUDE and showing everyone his body when HE KNOWS (well, at least i hope) that our body is a TEMPLE of God? Definitely not.

I would be serving my mission soon and Im afraid that people would ask me this question: "If you guys teach us about how our body is a temple of God and how we should be dressed when we go to your church, why did that guy from survivor pose shirtless and got nude in the island?"

I just wish this guy didnt say he's a mormon so that people wouldnt react to whatever thing he will do on the island. And perhaps, we, latter-day saints, wouldnt get disappointed if he obeys the standards we should all be living.
Nhil | 4:17 a.m. Feb. 15, 2009
Sorry.. i forgot the word "NOT" in my last sentence. What i meant is that... not get disappointed he does NOT live the standards we should be living.

P.S
It's okay to be shirtless on the beach but BE NUDE??? Are you sure you're a Mormon?
