Great Game, Great Players, and Class One Coaches! It was worth every bit of the $5 I paid to watch.

Girls basketball has indeed come a long way! This is a great rivalry for everyone with an interest in Utah high school sports. Thanks to both teams for putting on such a great show. My team didn't win, but the competition is fantastic.

Kim Parker | 11:44 a.m. Jan. 14, 2009
I don't know how anyone can deny that Kim Parker is the best candidate for Ms. Basketball. The girl is unbelievable. There are many great players in the state, but Kim is special because she can play every position on the floor. There is not a girl more athletic than Kim. BYU definately knew what they where doing when they picked this girl up. Rock on!

Parker is very good. I doubt she will win unless her team does well at state. They play in a weak league. There are many candidates for the award that are equally deserving, let's see how their teams and play come out through the year before we annoint Parker as Ms. Basketball.

I never understood that argument. Shouldn't that award go to the best basketball player and not the best team's best player? Ah what do I know?

You are right. Ms. Basketball is different than 5A MVP for example. Ms. Basketball doesn't go to the player with the best team surrounding her... that would be the MVP award. Ms. Basketball typically goes to the best all-around player in the state. Like 2 years ago Tasha Dickey got it, but her Brighton team wasn't great nor did they go far in the tournament.

i think that it is the player by themselve for ms. Basketball because if it was the mvp it is the team i do agree with that. and what i do agree with to is that kim parker should be able to get that award she always steps up when she is needed and unfortunely she could not do it with great defense from judge but other than that parker deserves it! i think that they will be seeing judge at the final again, and i would pay anthing to see that again!!

Parker scored 26 points against the bulldogs defense. My question is how did she not step up? I also agree with the comment made about classes. It doesn't matter what class Ms. Basketball is from as long the one who receives it is the best.

Best in 3A | 11:14 p.m. Jan. 14, 2009
Parker may not even be the best player in 3A. Clyde is the leading scorer for the second year in a row. Jensen from Grantsville is averaging a double double on a 10-3 team, Fakafua is the best player on the top team in 3A.

Wasatch has two good wins over Carbon and Emery but otherwise has played a very easy schedule.

Parker is in no way the front runner for Ms. Basketball. Holmstead is playing well and AF is winning. Same could be said for Yazzie at Bingham and Finch at Riverton.

All 3 of those players have other top players on their teams which lowers their stats but not their abilities and their impact to their very successful teams. All of them share the ball with their talented teammates. Parker had 26 of 43 points against Judge and lost.

I believe Wasatch will win the next time they meet, thankfully wasatch missed ALOT of free throws or we would of lost this game that was very unusual for the Wasatch team. I am sure they will pull it together and be a little tougher next round at Judge!

As long as Judge continues to play "WE ball", they will just keeping racking up the w's. That is one fun team to watch.

In regards to the first few posts, if you have never attended a Judge/ Wasatch girls game, you are missing something special. Very talented teams ( this year there are 5 D-1 prospects between the two teams ), great energy and hustle, extremely well coached, and enthusiastic and well mannered fans. Regarding Kim Parker, she is a terrific talent and should be in any discussion concerning top players in the state. What seems to seperate Judge from the other teams is their willingness to share the ball and that all 5 players on the floor are scoring threats. An example of this was the game winning shot Tuesday evening. Mikelle Mancini was used as a decoy to keep Parker away from the basket. Erica Martinez( the top 3-point shooter in the state the past two years) was well guarded and rather than put up a forced shot made a beautiful pass to Allyson Brann who hit the game winner. Wonderful coaching, teamwork, and execution, Both of these teams, coaches and fans should be complemented for a great rivalry and atmosphere. It is unique in a very positive way !

judge missed just as many free throws as wasatch.i think judge has the edge next time around. they have too many weapons compared to wasatch who only has one

The next meeting between these two teams will probably be decided by foul trouble, free throws, and who's hitting their shots. Both teams struggled in the fourth quarter from the foul line ( highly unusual for both ).Both teams have very good long range shooters although Judge has more of them. Both are very well coached, so you know that the defense and intensity will always be there. If Fakahafua get's in foul trouble Judge has a problem ( although she fouled out with 3 1/2 minutes left in the game Tuesday and Judge was able to win) If Parker get's into foul trouble, Wasatch has an equally large problem. Games between two quality teams such as these usually are decided by these three factors.

Look at the Jensen girl from Grantsville. Sammie is amazing. Grantsville could win both Judge and Wasatch.
