I think it is a great thing. Build it, we need it.

Don't know much about the location of such a plant but it seems that the city would much rather require a greater distance between these two facilities, just from the safety issue. Refineries should have a large buffer zone from surrounding businesses and homes. This area also is close the the wild life preserves west of this area and would have a drasitic affect on the enviornment. Where these emission standards came from is also a good question. There should be no maximum on emissions, none is the most acceptable, especially in a zone already plagued with high emission levels. I'm for any power plant that gives Rky Mtn Power some competition and break its monopoly, but not at the risk of everyones heatlh. Those who smoke can't afford to be taxed every time there is an enviornmental heatlh issue and passing on the cost to them.

It seems to me that if the company is meeting all the requirements of state and federal air laws when they asked for this "permit," then the state doesn't have a choice but to give them the permit. So, it also seems that the county people who control land use thru zoning ordinances have the last say - if they don't want the plant, then they should enforce there current zoning plan - not give the power plant a veriance or rezone the land (as I understand they will have to do for the plant to be built there). I think they're just scared of saying no, so are trying to blame someone else for stopping this plant. Then, come some summer when we have rolling blackouts, they can point the finger at someone else, and blame them for that, too.

The lawmakers deserve this heat, not the low level bureaucrats at the division of air quality. If these protesters want to exercise their civic duties, they should show up at the the upcoming legislative session.

Everybody wants power and they want it cheaply... But no one is willing to pony up and allow the needed facilities to produce that Power. California wants to take all the power we can produce, but won't allow new plants of their own. We want to keep increasing our power needs, but don't want plants in our back-yards. Not in Davis County, not in Sevier County. Then where folks? Or shall we just turn off all of our televisions, computers and other electronic devices?

This plant, from what I understand, meets all of the EPA and Utah requirements for a permit. Sure it uses crappy fuels, but it also has control systems to clean its emissions. It's burning refinery waste, solving another of our environmental problems... While distasteful, we should be applauding this kind of solution.

Several comments here state that because the plant may meet paltry standards, it ought to be permitted. I remind you that the civil servants at the DEQ/DAQ serve citizens-they are not merely bureaucratic functionaries. The Wasatch Front is already in non-attainment for poor air quality standards. This plant, which would produce power to the highest bidder on the grid (not Utahns), will contribute to that problem and emit a great deal of toxic materials into our communities. This plant will not lower power costs, it will increase healthcare costs.

We can and should pursue alternatives that produce energy here that stays here and is clean. It can be done. It will keep our children from developing chronic respiratory diseases and ensure that our loved ones do not die prematurely from pollution. Those are the values the DEQ and our moral conscience must defend, not power and waste at any cost.

I say let the experts decide this. Not many Utahns have much faith in the state agency Division of Air Quality, but maybe an outside agency could come in and give a thumbs up,(or thumbs down) to this power plant. Let the citizens choose one outside co., let the company itself choose one outside company, let the city zoning regulators choose one outside company, (all paid for by the folks who want to build the plant)then see if all 3 outside co's come to a concensus as to the effects of the plant. Maybe the residents would get info. they could trust.
Problem is, we seem to be okay allowing ever smaller bldg. lots, and ever more people and cars, but we think the power should come from somewhere else.

I feel that those who oppose this plant, and others in the future should be the first to turn off their electricity when we begin to have shortages. It should be realized that the REAL driving force for the power plant is because people NEED their electricity. I fear greatly that our society is going to be seriously in trouble because of power outages in our near future because of the absolute impossibility of building new plants.
I say build and bring this plant on just as fast as possible.

Build it there. They use the power, they already have refineries and other junky stuff to look at from their hilltop residences so why not a power generating plant to add to it?
If they don't want it, let them freeze in the dark. They are a prime example of NIMBY!

Davis County already has dirth air.
Making it even worse is NOT good sense.
This is a very dirty method of power production !
NO WAY !!
