I knew Holland and his family in St. George area. This talk makes sense. If anyone has reason to move on and forget the past, it is Holland.

He is quoting 1Cor:13,1, a modern translation for the word charity(agape) is love. This is the pure love of Christ(agape love,or God's love toward us )and it makes more sense.

As always, Elder Holland's remarks are timely and riveting. As one young man (a non-Mormon) said to me 25 years ago after we had both listened to then-BYU President Holland prior to the BYU-Georgia football game, "Never have I heard so much wisdom and power come across a pulpit." It's the same today as it was then, and I hope every BYU student was listening carefully. Thank you, Elder Holland, for giving so much of yourself on behalf of BYU students and others who will listen around the world.

I met Elder Holland in 1980 when he became President of BYU. He has continued to be an inspiration to everyone within the sound of his voice since then. To Anonymous 2:34 pm, since you claim to know the Holland family since his days in St. George, you must be especially pleased that you are acquainted with such a stellar person who has obtained a Ph.D from Yale, held high administrative positions, including President, at the largest private university in America, and is currently one of 14 living apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. I wish I had known him in St. George! I'm sure you are a much better person yourself because of your association with such a great family.

It is so good to be able to watch the BYU Devotionals through satellite trasmission by Dish Network. Blessed be the people at BYUTV that allow us far from Provo, to be able to enjoy and partake of the talent, wisdom, and style in delivery of Elder Holland's devotional address, to have the opportunity to delight in the divine Light offered to us through his conunsel, to implement it, and to improve our lives! Thank you BYUTV. I loved also President and Sister Samuleson's Devotional the previous week. How fortunate I feel!

I am glad that our general authorities are emphasizing Christ's teachings regarding the opportunity the atonement provides us to look forward and leave the past behind. I think that some local church leaders have been more oriented toward punishing rather than loving and helping the sinner.

Oh I think Elder Holland is a terrific speaker but so are so many of the other G.A.'s.
It would be difficult to even try to choose just one as the best speaker.
***Each one is my favorite the minute they speak!!!

I absolutely agree with this message -- the past is to be learned from not lived in. The future holds so much potential for each of us, but it is certain to be wasted if we are so absorbed in the past we miss new opportunities to learn and grow. These apostles are inspired and these speeches always contain helpful and divine truths.
