I am confused. All I ever read is how the 3A and 2A are better than the 4A and 5A, and in this tourney, 4A wins and 5A wins. I was also surprised to see how 5A won it the previous 2 years.

HUHHHHH....what about the small town kids have passion and the big city boys don't and all that stuff?

Simple... look at the pool of kids that it takes for 4A and 5A to win? Match Delta up with any 4A or 5A team and lets see who wins then. Simple as that. Sure, 4A and 5A have more depth in the classification, but they really ough to having so many more kids.

There are too many ways to look at which classification is the best. I don't think we can judge each classification based on how this tournament turned out. The only thing we can really see from it are great individual performances.

I mean, look at 112: Tolbert vs. Kuhn, both are awesome.....nationally ranked and happened to get matched up. Now I wasn't there so I don't know how the match went exactly, but maybe one of the toughest matches in utah high school wrestling this year, though the score wasn't super close. Kuhn won, but Tolbert might beat everyone else in 5a handily. No way to know from this meet.

Then look at 189. Keisel vs. Nyberg. I haven't seen Keisel but I have watched Nyberg, who lost in the classic, and he is a very good wrestler. Just because Keisel beat Nyberg doesn't imply that the rest of the 189 class in 2a would win out again the 4a 189s.

We have some awesome wrestling here in Utah and it is great to have a match like the classic where wrestlers from all the classification get together and compete.

Delta needs to win the state tournament to back up all the talk. It is amazing how much they talk. Win a state title and then we'll pay attention. Win more than one and you'll actually matter.

Match ups in the all star dual can really change the scores, for example Lofthouse would have beat anyone at his weight (any one in the gym for that matter lol) so he takes points away from the 2A team only. If he would have wrestled the 5A boy 5A score would have went down and 2A (if he beats the 3A kid) go up. You can but this scene at any weight and it could change the final scores. 4A is tough but in Utah the tougest team always seems to be 3A. 5A and 4A are usssually the deepest in talent from top to bottom. The only way to really settle who is the toughest would be to run a single class state championship....that will never happen in Utah. BTW Delta is the best team in Utah this year 3A and Wasatch is ussually the best also 3A occasionally a 4A or 5A will have the best but not many times in recent history and 2A always has Millard who will beat 95% of the teams in Utah regaurdless of classification.

No matter the classification Monte from Tooele has to be one of the best, this past summer he went to Austria and didn't lose a match! He is definately worthy of some more recognition from around the state. Keep up the good work Monte

I would agree that Schmalhaus is really good as well. I watched him last weekend @ Tooele's Best of the West. Hope he wins the 4a title @ 160.

I'm sick of hearing about delta. has delta won the last 3 state championships... thats what i thought if you want to talk about the best programs right now in the state it's wasatch and mountain crest. how can you go against a team who has won 3 straight championships and are contending for their 4th. 4A is the best class this year between mountain crest, payson, and as much as i hate to say it you have to add box elder in there too. thats 3 good teams right there and there are more right behind them. you can't stop lofthouse!!!

I believe that mtn crest has a great program that has really came on strong over the last decade or so. I was impressed to watch Ethen Lofthouse win his first title, even as a freshman several years ago he looked awesome!!! He is a hallmark of what the mtn crest program has become.

However, when I think of schools that have strong wrestling traditions, I definitely think of Delta, Wasatch, and Unitah, all of which happen to be 3A. It is hard to say which class is better though, as 4a has Box Elder, a traditional power, as well as Payson, that has a good program.
