That's why I'm worried.

As long as the "private sector" is providing health care, it will never be "affordable".

Great, I am so glad that our senators are that much closer to a health care plan: they have accomplished the incredible task of forming a commitee. That was the hard part right?
And they have already made some definitive statements like "this is a bipartisan issue" and "providing quality, affordable health care affects all Americans".
I know i'm paraphrasing here, but the statements made in this article made me go "duh!"
I would love to see some of our senators go out on a limb and make some bold statements. If they are going to come up with a reform plan, they need to start with some real ideas, even if the ideas are off the wall. I know that part of the political game requires our senators to watch what they say and always sound smart, but I would love to hear what some of their ideas are.
Health care in the United States has complex problems. Even though I critisize, I wish our senators the best of luck and lots of inspiration.

Sen. Hatch (R-Utah) has had a history of working with Democrats when it comes to social health care programs, particularly for children. Hopefully he will be able to continue his progressive work in this particular area even though he continues to be a conservative Republican.

Health reform doesn't need more ways for government to pay insurance companies tax funds, they need to create laws regulating health care costs. There is no such thing as customary and reasonable charges for services because there is no standard for services and cost of these services. Reform insurance company policies so they can't refuse coverage for pre-existing conditions of its subscribers. Legislation has to control the cost of health care before it can even consider controlling the cost of insurance. Creating a social health care insurance plan is merely a program of more theft and abuse by insurance and health care if there is nothing done to control it at the top. Also a better paid worker is better able to pay for their own insurance and family needs. The new commision will again come out with a no decision plan after is is all over. At least a plan that won't involve heavy taxation to get it off the ground, then it would be an escalating tax as health care and insurance companies demand more money. If they want socialized health care then they must socialize all medical care and eliminate the need for any insurance policies.
