I sincerely hope they don't determine it came from the father's own gun. I'm sure he's already overcome with guilt at losing his son during this tragic accident. To find out that he accidentally killed his own son would be horrible. My prayers go out to this family for this very sad tragedy.

If he pulled the trigger he already knows.

My sympathy and prayers go to the family. This is a tremendous loss to them and those who cared about that young man.

An update on reality, if law enforcement could have nailed the father in his sons death, they would have! Law enforcement officers study and do their best to collect all the evidence and make a KNOWLEGDEABLE determination of fact. They use all the tools at their disposial. If the Father would have been guilty, he would be in Jail NOW! Try to have SOME intelligence when speaking of ballistics! The wasatch front is PODUNK, not Manilla.

If you want something REALLY DANGEROUS, try going to a hospital, having an operation, driving a car or doing sports. Hunting is the least of them all.

My heart goes out to the young man's family. Due to the muzzle blast and recoil of the rifle, the father would almost certainly know if his gun fired or not. Either way I hope the family is able to find some peace concerning this unfortunate accident.

I'm sure the officials are 'unsure' to protect the dad.

Ryan,
Ballistics can only match the bullet with the gun. If they don't *have* the gun available to test and make the match, then it can be hard for the police to determine who shot him--especially if this might be an accidental ricochet.

Wow, ever heard of "Reading is Fundamental"?

"Investigators were never able to have a ballistics test performed because the slug was not recovered, despite an extensive search of the area."

This family needs prayers not criticism.
