Yes, I can admit Austin is a great player! No, I will not miss his arrogance, but I will miss all his quotes!!! Austin, Good luck in the NFL.

Thank you to all you cougar fans who have congratulated the Utes on their Sugar Bowl win. I admire all of you that can do that. And good luck to the Y next year. It will be fun to watch the oklahoma game. I hope you can beat the homers.

"Two words "Luke Staley". How did that turn out?"

I'll tell you how it turned out--he sold me a cell phone at a mall kiosk a year after he went pro. Best of luck to you Austin. I hope your body holds up better than Luke's did.
Re: What about Pitta? | 2:02 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
If Pitta were smart he'd bolt for the NFL now as well. However, Pitta has some personal ties to Hall and he also isn't as independently minded as Collie. My guess is that Collie will do better in the NFL than his critics expect (although nearly all wide receivers struggle initially with the transition to the pro level) and that Pitta will regret not coming out early even if he has good numbers next season as expected.

I am wondering if he is planning, in some way, to finish his last year of college? Is a sports career really more important than a complete education? Does anyone know what his major is/was? One really does need to have some kind of training if an injury prematurely ends their sports career.
BY Oooooh | 5:46 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Collie makes good decisions. After all, he didn't go to the U.
Good | 6:42 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Good for him. Good for the Utes.
MiP | 7:15 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Good reciever.

Give him a chance. The guy's a hard worker and may have some success at the next level.

Man...only 7 more months 'til the regular college season begins anew. Can't wait!
nottyou | 7:38 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
CYA, hate to be ya. Don't let the door hit you in the back, pretty boy.
Team | 7:58 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
With Collie gone, BYU's offense may be playing as a team rather than a one many show. May turn out to be a big plus for BYU.

A big plus for the conference an the state of Utah is that Mr. Motor Mouth is now gone. No more embarrassing comments. Collie will be a good fit in the NFL.
As a Utah Fan... | 8:05 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
I am glad to see Collie go because he gives us headaches. That said, he's a phenomenal player and I wish him the best of luck in the NFL. Further, BYU is set up perfectly for a great run at the BCS next year, and possibly a championship shot - OU, FSU, Tulane, Utah and TCU at home - if you guys run that schedule you're in for sure! Best of luck, and thanks for the class you showed this year to your Red neighbors up north! Go MWC!

I do not see the point in turning Pro if you will be a middle round pick. He should stay in school for his senior year, because his team could be poised for a Ute-Like season with him. Sadly, his arrogance will once again come back to bite him. I hope he is living right while he prepares for the draft! Karma Karma Karma!
Bob in line | 8:17 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
In addtion to the Luke Staley comment, let me add two more words: Todd Watkins.

If you remember he was the burner wideout that BYU had a few years back. He could get open and deep against pretty much anyone. He burned the best corners any team had. He also had pretty decent hands, not perfect but pretty good.

He played through his senior year, then went to the NFL combine. He ran a very mediocre 4.5 40. I don't recall if he was even drafted. I know that this last year he spent it on the bench of the Oakland Raiders, getting some special teams play.

Bottom line, speed is everything. And game speed doesn't seem to impress anyone but the Dnews sports writers. Collie will go to the NFL combine, run a 4.6 40 and then watch as his stock drops faster then Enron. He will end up not being drafted, signing a free agent/walk-on contract and end up being cut mid-way through preseason.

This would likely happen after his senior year. The difference is one year closer to his degree, and one more year of playing time.

I wish him the best but...
Re "bad choice man" | 8:53 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Difference between Luke and Austin, Luke Staley ended his college career with an injury, Collie with a stellar performance until the end. Odds are still in Collie's favor.

why I am a ute fan | 11:50 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
Sometimes I get the question what is a zoobie? I think photo 3/3 of this article is a prime example Anyone who would pose like that for a photo (directed or otherwise) encompasses the true meaning of zoobieness. Thank you Austin Collie.
==================================

That is HILARIOUS!!!

As funny as what a zoob wrote:
"Collie's speed is fine... he just doesn't time well in the 40.... which is an overrated indicator"

Just like winning the Sugar Bowl and being ranked #2 is a overrated indicator that Utah is the better program.
sj | 9:32 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
After reading some of these comments I am taken back at how deeply the 4 and 18 play hurt the ute fans.

Collie is a human being who has exceptional talent on the football field. He has earned the right to enter the NFL. He is a good and decent person that we should all wish the best for.

How can anyone say the things they are saying about him and feel good about themself?
Draper BYU Fan | 9:53 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Collie claims it feels right for him to enter the draft. Of course he would feel that. He has a huge ego and he could make lots of money (assuming he even gets signed). Is it really a good idea? Let's think about it: he has 1.5 years left of school and he has already dropped out, he has already had to deal with minor injuries that will get worse in the rougher NFL (assuming, once again, he gets signed), and there are plenty of good receivers to be drafted next year. (Sarcastically) Of course it is a good idea! Can I say, Luke Staley?

Will BYU be fine? Sure. We have other receivers now, and new receivers coming in, plus this will force Hall to learn how to multitask a bit more, which he needs to learn really badly for BYU to be a real threat next season. Will Collie be fine without BYU? I think it will be more humbling than anything for him, in more than one way. Good luck and good riddance you egotistical idiot.
Question | 9:55 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Does "living right" include playing on Sundays? Maybe Collie can blame his short pro career on the NFL's Sunday only schedule.
collie | 10:00 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
you will get drafted by the detroit lions and bring the spirit to that team, convert all them and then win a super bowl
Lay off the guy. | 10:05 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Re: Draper BYU Fan and Question:

You think you know all about this guy because you've watched him play football and have heard a few soundbites from him. Be nice, for crying out loud. He's somebody's son; somebody's husband; somebody's brother. How would you feel if someone was talking like that about your brother? Only he and his wife can decide what's best for their family, and who are we to question that? Sure, I'd like to see him finish at BYU, but that's not my decision to make. Good luck, Austin. We'll miss you.
STALEY | 10:34 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Please - the next person to say something negative about Luke Staely leaving early, include the phrase - "and I recognize I am an absolute idiot."

Luke Staley was arguably the best athlete to step foot on BYU's campus. He was ravaged by injuries and really had no choice but to try to make it after his junior season. His career ended 100% due to injuries not a lack of talent. So please posters - show a tiny bit of intelligence.
Anyone? | 10:35 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Anyone judging Collie's morality needs to write your name, and we'll compare your morality to his. Deal? Any takers? Especially if you're a 23 year old college male at the U. Everyone so tough and judgmental under anonymity.
Raymond Berry look-like | 10:38 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
I'm also declaring myself eligible for the draft.
My wife thinks this is a good idea. Nobody else cares.
The Dentist | 11:10 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
This is funny. Apparently Austin Collie went and had his two front teeth capped so he wouldn't have a slight gap in his teeth for his press conference.
LOL | 11:31 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Cool down a bit Collie fans and realize that likely 100% of the Collie haters on this comment board won't make in a lifetime the amount of money Collie will make on his first NFL contract, whether he turns out to be a star or a multi-million dollar flop...like Alex Smith and probably John Beck.

Like none of these haters would jump ship on their beloved Utes and grab the cash themselves. Talk about idiot hypocrits!
Re: Staley | 11:44 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
I agree. He was one of the best athletes, and now is one of the best cell phone salesmen in University mall kiosk. I actually talked to him last Christmas, he seems nice.
For "LOL", the critic... | 11:47 a.m. Jan. 10, 2009
"LOL", you're a fool and a blind one at that.

I don't know if Austin Collie had his teeth capped or not but if it's true you mock a guy for making himself look as physically attractive as possible?

Haven't you learned yet that any idiot can tear something down but it takes a real man to build someone or something up?

At work a few days ago a young student pilot I'm teaching told me he went to high school with Austin and that he hated Collie. Claimed he was stuck up. And, oh yeah, his other crime was that he drove a BMW.

In light of the fact that Austin Collie is a disciplined, focused young man who has set high goals and actually WORKS TO ACHIEVE THEM, the student pilot's opinion sounds like jealousy to me. You're not my student pilot, are you?....

Collie will just be another white receiver in the NFL that will be used on special teams for a few years and he is done. there will be no great receiver from the Zooland
Lack of speed? | 12:07 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Let's see....Collie led the entire nation in receiving yards (1538), was #3 in receptions (Collie - 106, and the leader had 113) and had ELEVEN hundred-yard games this season, more than any other receiver. BTW, that's 3 more hundred-yard games than the second place guy, Kenny Britt, who plays for Rutgers (Rutgers?...who the heck do THEY play?) and 4 more hundred-yard games than the next 6 leading college receivers, who all could only muster seven. (stats are from Fox sports)

Yeah, I'm sure that NFL scouts don't pay any attention to stats like that....

Speed is nice but it doesn't mean jack if you can't catch and produce yards.

Have a great NFL career, Austin!
Funny | 12:09 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
What's funny is Utah just completed the most successful football season in their history and the BYU football stories still are by far the most active on the comment boards in Utah. Even proclaiming yourselves National Champions can't generate more interest in your program than BYU's!
Re: Staley | 12:10 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Luke Staley was good but saying his is the BEST to step on a BYU campus is pushing it a bit. After this year he does look a lot better, because of the weak year
RE : Funny | 12:31 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Utah does their talking on the field and BYU just uses blogs
Offense? | 12:55 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Kiss the 09 season goodbye, see ya in 2010
No. 5 | 1:07 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Let's see. Stay at BYU where football is the 5th priority, or go to the NFL where football is at the top of the list? If you were as good as Collie what would you do?
Re: RE: Funny | 2:13 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Says the Ute fan who does his talking on the blogs.
Re: why I am a ute fan | 4:30 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
You're absolutely right, he should've wore mascara and lipstick like Ute players do in their pictures, that would've fixed everything.

Re: Re: why I am a Utah fan | 4:37 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
No, overrated indicators that Utah is the better program is Utah having two decent years in their entire 150 whatever school history of their football program (2004, 2008), PERIOD. Name one other great year in their entire school history, ONE. . .didn't think you could.

After you've had 20+ respectable years as a program like BYU has, then you can talk.

LDS UTE | 4:34 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Dosen't he realize he will have to play on (gasp!) Sunday? I guess he will be able to justify that one. I wouldnt even make this comment if he wasnt so self righteous.

Good luck to him however. Recievers like him in the NFL have to go across the middle to make a living. I guess we will see if he has what it takes to get up from all of those hits.
Anonymous | 5:34 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
i wouldnt go back either max hall prefers to throw to the utes secondary
Re:Re: Re: Why I am a Utah fan | 6:00 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
You kidding me? Typical dillusional BYU fan...keep talking on the blogs...cough cough sorry I'm choking. haha
Re: 6:00 pm | 9:41 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
National Championships

BYU - 1
Utah - Will never happen
Re:Re:Re:Re: why I am a utah fan | 11:15 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
Exactly, you can't do it can you? Now go bask in your "national championship" victory and stay off of our friggin' articles. We don't need your ridiculous comments.
Southern CA Porter Rockwell | 11:31 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
It's a shame that the BYU football team is losing a valuable player. Thank you for the great memories you gave for Cougar football. Be sure to hit the weights and protein shakes so you can bulk up!
Anonymous | 4:54 a.m. Jan. 11, 2009
Yeah Utah does the talking on the field. And has been ranked once in 5 years.
Collie Supporter | 6:53 a.m. Jan. 11, 2009
I am glad that Collie has decided to move on. He has broken almost every record, so there isn't much more he can prove. He needs to get the NFL money before he has an injury at BYU. Smart move on his part, and to all you doubters, he will be an impact player in the NFL. He has the size, speed, and the clutch catching ability to be a great receiver.

BYU will survive. They have some very good returning receivers next year. Mackay Jacobason will be back from his mission, and he is touted to be a very good receiver also.

Have a great career Austin!
Scott | 9:21 a.m. Jan. 11, 2009
Collie will go no higher than 6th round... probably 8th round. Good with the Cougars, but his too skinny too last long in the NFL.
good luck Collie | 10:07 a.m. Jan. 11, 2009
well, as much as I don't like to think about him not playing for BYU next year, I am excited to see how he does at the next level. I know if I were in his position I would definately go pro (money talks). I think this might make BYU better as a team in the long run, as Hall will need to look to other receivers more often
Re: why I am a Utah fan | 4:37 | 1:59 a.m. Jan. 12, 2009
I can show your last 10 years against ranked teams but I won't mention your pathetic record in bowl games. Keep living in the past, BYU is lucky just to be considered average now adays.

No more Collie vision for Max Hall! Now Max will actually have to check off his receivers. As good as Austin is, everybody new that when Max was in trouble that was where the ball was going. BYU will simply reload with Jacobson and Chambers along with Pitta and George. In fact, run a spread offense with those 4 at the receiver spot and Unga catching passes out of the backfield. If the offense is aggressive and scores points, the defense has an easier job.
