Education officials consider staff, benefit cuts

When things get tough we all need to cut spending. I would hope these cuts include a hudge reduction in middle management where so much waste occurs. Hopefully, these cuts don't need to fall soley on those on the bottom rungs (teachers/ students). They deserve to be spared to whatever extent is possible.

Their not thinking about raising my property taxes. WAIT!! I didn't say that!

so we're supposed to think a few less workers in the USOE is a bad thing? really?

Lets start in the washington county school district office. There are at least 10 employees there making over 100K. I would love to play golf everyday and make that kind of money!!!

How sad! The State Office is already so underfunded and so understaffed it's embarrassing. Doesn't the legislature realize they have created that? USOE is a huge resource to rural districts, and ultimately it will be students, once again, who will be hurt by more cuts at this office.

Time to focus on the classroom and cut spending for state purchased cars, gas, benefits for staff that do not help the students...time for some serious planning.
Time for all taxpayers to step up and get involved.

Washington County hasn't got waste at all compared to the State Office. They've got a WHOLE LOT of people at the state office making ridiculous wages at taxpayers expense! I hope that this years legislature takes a REAL hard look at the salaries at this dept. (and many others). With this years especially hard budget it would be a good time to see if they can rid themselves of some of that REAL EXPENSIVE DEAD WOOD!

They think they're doing us all a favor (for working for us for 100k plus per annum) but I know that the biggest part of this bunch couldn't hold a job in the real world for 6 seconds! You have to remember that the BEST things this bunch is good at is playing bureaucratic games.

Then this same board wonders why they don't have any good teachers, or at least why the bad ones don't leave. This proposal is aimed at the teachers, not the district offices and their expense accounts and excessive CEO pay. It doesn't target any office cuts at all inlcuding public provided transportain and fuel to go golfing or to fancy restaruants in Park City every day on a 3 hour lunch spree. Why does a 100K CEO need public provided vehicle for lunch excursions or for any reason? He should be able to use his own vehicle for personal junkets. These same district directors should not be allowed to use public places to have conferences, the excuse to go to Park City and have $100 a plate lunch put on his expense account. The Granite school district director is infamous for doing these things. Then why do we need a school district police force? That could be a multi-million dollar savings cut in each district if they were abolished.

While I have little comment on district level cuts, I disagree with cutting police forces.

Much of a community's crime starts with teens. Ignoring that fact will come back to bite you... especially in the wallet.
