Nice Win | 6:46 a.m. Jan. 7, 2009
This was a good win for the Lady Red Devils. It's been a while since Springville has beaten Timpview (and since the writer tried to avoid it, I'll mention it out of fairness that Timpview is in a down year). The disparity in foul calls was due to the fact that Timpview's game plan appeared to be grab and slap at anything that moved. And one official was calling everything and anything and nothing at all. It made for a long, boring, head-scratching game.

BTW, isn't it traditional to interview the winning coach after a game?

Springville played a great game and Deseret News still can't give them credit? RE:Nice Win: I agree with you, what happened to interviewing the winning coach?

"grab and slap at anything that moved" is the norm for TV. They make the officials make the calls, and if they get an official who doesn't call it, then it's called good defense.

I agree with all above! Since DesNews won't say it, I'll say it myself! Great win Springville, you girls played a great game! Too bad the whole article on Springville winning has everything to do with the losing team! Keep up the hard work ladies!

Springville parents are so funny. Cry cry cry that's all you do! The article is about both teams! Everyone who was at the game last night knows the refs stunk it up.

Hey SHS Is thrilled with the win. The team came so close last year in beating them 3 times but could not get it done, so to finally beat Timpview is huge for SHS and the team members. It would be interesting to know of the last time they did win Timpview in girls basketball. Go Devils 1 - 0 in region play.

I love springville's parents! This is the case when the stereotype fits to the "T"

you guys need to grow up -> you're a BAD INFLUENCE on your children in regards to sportsmanship - you run coaches out, you whine on HS blogs and the kids can't play to your expectations.

Its pathetic. It really is.

Poof officiating | 1:09 p.m. Jan. 7, 2009
The officials were terrible at boths ends, though the foul count was 11-5 in the first half (TV with 11). I don't think either team was fouling more than the other. SHS got away with some slap/grab fouls.

The key was SHS shot 15 or so more F.T.'s than Timpview and hit 60% or so. TV on the other hand have poor poor shooters minus maybe 3 players. The form on the free thrown line was nothing I have ever seen from TV. The Coach at least admitted it.

Springville's key last night was Jenna, the super senior who is coming back from a hand injury. She looked good. A lot of players scored as Springville is 7 players deep.

TV is young as can be. TV coach will find a way to make the next game a winnable game.

Keep rolling Springville! And yes, Springville, let's not whine as much. The reputation is SHS whines all the time. Let's stop it!

Last time I checked, this was the Deseret News, not the Daily Herald(It's real name) or the Springville Herald(also it's real name.)

I am with the Springville team, and to be fair, our coach had to leave quickly after the game was over, so the reporters, who were standing there trying to do an interview with her couldn't do that.

First of all, why do you assume it is Springville parents posting here? I don't see anything indicating that the comments are made by parents.

Second, you seem to be the only one with a burr under your saddle. I don't see any whining post from Springville supporters. Why would they whine? They won! I'm sure they are happy with the results. Mentioning the fact that the winning coach wasn't interviewed isn't whining, it is just an observation. Why all the venom?

Third, do you deny that Timpview employed the slap and grab defense? It's not a bad defense if you can keep players on the floor. Unfortunately, the refs didn't play along and Springville was playing against your JV team with 5 minutes left in the game.

Toughness | 7:24 p.m. Jan. 7, 2009
If a girl cant handle a tough aggressive defense, some good physical play, the reality is that over the basketball season it will happen, especially in Region 7, every game will be a dog fight. Believe me the refs on the average will not call that many fouls.

The teams are all very well coached and all have good athletic players. If they are not receiving a few black eyes then they are not playing hard enough.

My guess is that the Springville coach left with the girls to put out a few fires, after all squeezing in a couple of new players to the line up, is a shock to the stars playing time. Especially when the younger players on varsity get no JV time.
