RE: 8-4 | 10:03 a.m. Jan. 7, 2009
8-4 you are clearly not a BYU fan so go find a team that you can support. Bronco's/BYU's priority is not a joke; you are.
"Little Brother" syndrome | 12:45 p.m. Jan. 7, 2009
To all those who are asking why Ute fans are commenting on BYU's schedule, please try and remember who your biggest rival and geographically closest competitor is. Here's a hint: 4 letters, starts with 'U' - can you figure it out now?

We're not here because we feel inferior - not after that 48-24 beat-down on Nov 22nd, and especially not after a(nother) successful, convincing BCS win over a major national football power. we're here because you're our biggest rival.

Also, an earlier poster asked who the U returns in its skill positions. Well, there's this one running back you might have heard of - Matt Asiata, and a couple WR's that caught some nice balls at the Sugar Bowl - David Reid and Jerome Wesson. 4 of 5 O-line are back as well. But the best news for the U / worst news for the Y, in spite of all your returning skill players on offense, is that the U returns 9 starters on D! I can't wait till Nov 21, 2009 - Max Hall may exceed 2008's generosity!!

Good luck, BYU, with OK and FSU, but Go UTES!!!
National Prestige vs Fluke Win? | 1:07 p.m. Jan. 7, 2009
Hmmm - when you say fluke win, are you referring to BYU's 1-point win in the 2007 Vegas Bowl over UCLA? Or to the 1-point win this year over Washington? Maybe the last-minute win over CSU?

I sure hope you're not calling 2- and 3-touchdown victories by the U in their last 2 games this season "fluke wins."

If you've had your nose in any publication other than this one, it should be plainly obvious to you who's getting the national prestige. Granted, BYU has a national fan base given the church affiliation. But that does not translate to national prestige until you start winning against ranked teams. What's the latest tally - 1 and 22? I'd have to say, with all due respect to this announcement of the 2009 non-conference schedule, that it's Utah who currently has a chokehold on the national prestige.

because BYU schedule a couple good games they are all of the sudden back on top here in the state of Utah? really? Wow, you BYU fans sure know how to spin stuff. If you turn on your television they will be talking about how Utah deserves a part of THIS YEARS national championship, NOT BYU!
I give BYU credit for having the guts to schedule OK right of the bat... but that is a sure loss for the boys in blue.
Best of luck next year with your near 500 schedule you have set up for yourselves.
A utah man am i sir,
watch them utes run the table again next year!

SLC Community College does not win at LES in 2009...yewets still stink, still live at home and are still the second or third best football program in SL county.

GO COUGS!!!

Let's see!! BYU beats utah 2 of the previous 3 games. Also TCU. Oklamoma should be a piece of cake. There is no doubt that BYU beats the utes next year when 6 turnovers are not given away. With six turnovers, BYU almost doubled the offensive yardage on Utah compared to Alabama. Who was playing the big boys? Utah or Alabama?

BYU's dream, is reality for Utes. Utah is Sugar Bowl winners, BYU is Las Vages Bowl losers. Next year BYU will be 1-2 after three games.

I see 2 and probably 3 losses for BYU of the 4 non-conference games mentioned. BYU simply does not field a diverse enough team to compete against teams that do IMHO.
Come on BYU Fans | 9:47 a.m. Jan. 8, 2009
I am a huge BYU fan but some of us need a serious dose of reality. BYU does a fantastic job considering that they basically field an LDS all-star team. But we simply cannot match the speed and athleticism that Utah and TCU have on their rosters. And both teams return a lot of their key players. I am actually a bit more afraid of Utah's new QB Louks (sp). He is very mobile and athletic and BYU gets killed by mobile QBs who can also throw. No one loves BYU more than me but I seriously think we need to get ready for losses to OK, FSU (probably better than OK), Utah and TCU. We just don't have the speed and Hall cannot get it done when fast, athletic defenders are in his face all game. And with a brand new o-line and the caliber of those four teams - next season will see even more pressure on him. We will play much better against the teams we should beat - no more 1 point wins against inferior opponents. But even with a very solid team the Cougs are likely a 3 loss team at best.
Autobid the MWC | 12:25 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
The fact that major college programs like Oklahoma, USC, Michigan, etc are willing to play BYU, TCU, and Utah, especially in an opener, is really a backhanded complement at best. Just ask Texas who would have dearly loved to play one of the MWC elite teams instead of the Florida Atlantic or UTEP teams that derailed their strength of schedule argument and kept them from the national title game. Make no mistake, the big boys want to play this conference because the teams here are considered good enough to crash the party but not good enough to throw the party. These teams schedule with full intention of notching another win, one that might be looked on a little more favorably by the national voters than ITT Tech or Devry. If ever the MWC had visions of stepping up in national prestige, now is the time. An occasional win over a top tiered program is no longer good enough. Hanging with the big boys is no longer good enough. You have to be the big boys. Utah illuminated the way with the thumping of the almighty SEC now prove this conference is elite and make teams afraid to schedule the MWC.
Re: Too bad | 5:38 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Three automatic losses for BYU? Yeah we'll probably lose to OU. I think we'll beat FSU cause were at home. And Utah? The Brian Johnson-less Utah team? The whole rest of the offensive-less team? Ok.
OK wasn't going 2B waiting Vegas | 11:26 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
Its good they finally scheduled a real non-conference team, since the TDS will never face an opponent like OK in their annual Vegas Bowl each year.

All though I would like the TDS to win, I won't hold my breath like I did against Arizona. Like the Zoobs were saying lets hope they make the game respectable.
