He has done a great job in leading our country. He understands that freedom isn't free. I thank him for that.
I am grateful... | 3:36 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
I'm grateful for men like President Bush who sacrifice so much to serve as president. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would want such a thing! I appreciate his discipline and his deep respect for the office based on his actions. I also respect the immense pressure he faced as lives depended on some of his decisions. He has my profound respect!

What I'm most afraid of are those who approach this incredibly powerful office with way to much ambition (remember the movie "Gladiator"?). People like Hillary Clinton, Rod Blagojevich, Howard Dean, Al Franken, Nancy Pelosi, and their ilk who lust after power are the ones we should be most concerned about.

Personally, I don't think Pres. Obama is in that same category. Time will tell.
The Mob! | 3:52 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Some of these comments show how many are part of "The Mob". I'm not talking about organized crime, but those who think 'I better get what I want or I'm going to cry and complain incessantly'. If a leader gives "The Mob" what they want, irregardless if it's the right thing to do, his/her pole numbers will most definitely be much higher, don't you think?

It seems there are many who approach the actions of President Bush with "what has he done for me lately" attitude. Unfortunately, this short-term thinking is detrimental in that it shows the shallowness of our lives.

What is really happening here is we are trying to blame our miserable existence on a man who has zero control over our happiness. He is one man, doing what very few are able, or even want, to do. What do you say we cut him some slack...

In the near future history will record Bush, and the Republican party, as the American leader who opened the way for American's change into socialism. Let's hope it will be a better life for all of us.

will go down in history as one of the worst ever Presidents. Look at the mess we are in. The American public at large recognizes that no President has ever been faced with the challenges Barack Obama is faced with today. Thank you George Bush. The debt load this country faces is insurmountable. When Clinton left office we had a budget surplus. Thank you George Bush. The man who never vetoed a spending bill. What about the war that will never end? Thank you George Bush. Unemployment at 7% and heading higher. Thank you George Bush. The president who never worried about the folks at home. Only overseas. Be glad America has a new direction. Barack Obama cannot fix everything overnight. He has assembled a formidable team. Give him a chance and thank your lucky butt George Bush's reign is about over.

I believe history will be more kind to President Bush - a man who helped lead a large portion of the world to democracy. He is a man who does not change with the wind, or to the popular opinion of the day. He witnessed, first hand, the worst terror this nation has ever experienced, and was determined to make sure it never happened again on his watch. He went after those he thought responsible, based upon the intelligence he had. We have gone seven years without another attack on this nation, and the world, while in war, is a better and safer place because of President Bush. He was not perfect, no President is. But let's see how President Obama compares over the next four years.
jefejivaro | 5:41 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Wow! I agree with many others that the hate and vitriol are quite astounding. President Bush's biggest downfall? His and his team's abdication of their responsibility over the last four years to rally the American people.

They completely gave up on the process of educating us re why the decisions the administration made were made. I am convinced because of my own efforts, not theirs, that most of the president's policies have been good ones. I'm not sure they would have been successful influencing public opinion even if they hadn't given up, but it's discouraging seeing them cede the ground to the opposition and allow the media, who seem to have an almost genetic hate for President Bush, to shape American thought.

I have sensed the sincere spirit of this man, who, like any man makes mistakes. As someone else noted, it would be really interesting to rewind time and put Al Gore or John Kerry in his shoes and see how they would have handled the same set of challenges this administration faced. I fear we'd be far worse off.

I hope and pray Barack Obama has the wisdom and mettle to lead us through the next four years.
Are you kidding me? | 5:59 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Bush the most hones president? He lied about 911, his new Pearl Harbor. He lied about Iraq's WMD. He lied about the economy being bad. He will go down as the worst president in US history. Mark my words. He destroyed all US credibility. Good ridance DubYA!
Once more with feeling | 6:15 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Our President is very lazy, extremely arrogant, and a bald faced liar. He admits to not reading confidential reports, doesn't like to go past the first page, once said that he had nothing to change about his behavior, he is perfect after all, and lied to us about the wire tapping. Just lied lied lied to our faces about wire tapping us!!!!

Let's see if we can find something to say that he was a great President: well, he likes baseball, has a dog, and a wife that seems to love him. His daughter gave the finger to the press. Neat act, eh. No points there.

Uh, does he hate brocolli? That would score two more points on the great president score.

Uh... he drives an American made car? That's 7 more points. Uh... he talks Texan, that's worth one more point.

I am sorry to report this but when I travel overseas to do work the foreigners laugh at my President and deride him. It is hard to defend his actions, but I tell them he has a nice dog, a good wife, and he likes baseball.

That's when they throw up. Can't blame em. I feel likethattoo somedays.

The entire presidency has been about the invasion of Iraq and the fear instilled in the American people. He knew about the threat of Al Qeida and befriended the Bin Ladens. He let the towers fall in order to excuse himself for what he planned all along- INVASION OF IRAQ!

I liked Bush and voted for him for re-election. Shortly thereafter, he botched the Hurricane Katrina relief because, hey, the people of New Orleans are poor, second-class citizens anyway. And there is no oil in New Orleans.

After that, his entire presidency seemed to go downhill. I think President Bush loves America but dislikes many Americans.

It will be interesting to see how he is portrayed in 25-50 years from now. But for me, he'll always be the President that supposedly cared more about the freedom and liberty of the Middle East, but not of his own countrymen.

The more I read comments from readers the more I am thrilled to have a reasonable mind...
I listened to Reid this morning vilify the Illinois governor who has not even been found guilty of anything while trying to close Gitmo...and put those guys in our backyards.
Clinton was impeached, impeached...Bush kept us safe for 8 years....
Patti Jones | 8:56 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
How did he botch Katrina? How does government work on a state level? City preparedness, county preparedness and then state preparedness. Louisianna was only prepared to fail. It had nothing to do with Bush. New Orleans cared so little about their own people they had no way of getting their people out of harms way. The governor failed, the mayor failed and the world blamed Bush. He was also blamed for the hurricane itself if you remember....he is responcible for global warming too. What was the difference between the flooding in Iowa and the hurricane in New Orleans? Preparedness. REcently the town I grew up in was devastated by Ike...guess what? They are rebuilding, they blamed no one, they just went to work. New Orleans has had so many years of welfare no one knows how to take care of themselves any more. They couldn't get out of the city and they can't get back. Great leadership.....
stop blaming Bush for democratic blunders.

It is incredible to think that there are still 25% of Americans that still believe that Bush did a good job as president. Are they delusional are just extremely ignorant? Let me list a few items of lawlessness from the Bush crime family: promoting and practicing torture including death resulting from torture (puts Bush in the same category as Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler and the most notorious despots to ever hold power), suspending habeas corpus and holding prisoners for years without any charge of wrongdoing in Gitmo, spying on Americans without warrant and using the Patriot Act to strip away other Constitutional freedoms we used to have (for nearly 200 years before Bush came to power), rampant cronyism rewarding the Bush crime family loyalists with fortunes from the coffers of the taxpayers, increasing the gap between rich and poor exponentially leading the nation into the greatest economic disaster since the great depression (also brought on by another callous and arrogant Republican named Hoover), issuing more signing statements than all presidents before him combined and using unprecedented executive orders to get around the separation of powers defined in the Constitution. Indeed, the worst president this nation has ever seen.
History | 9:51 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Will record GW as a strong, capable leader. We give the President way too much credit for the good and the bad. I don't blame him for the economic woes, he is only a small part. The US Congress is responsible for that mess. GW kept us safe...period. If that's all he gets credit for, that's enough for me.
WOW! | 9:53 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
You Bush haters are all so funny. Its true that he made mistakes but to talk about Clinton as a great president and Bush as a bad one is terribly misguided. Its Clintons fault Bush ran into many of the problems he did. It takes a lot longer than eight years to mess things up as bad as they are. I really wish everybody would realize that there are smart people in both parties. We should be voting for smart people. Not for stupid parties.

Can we take any more of the republican ways and philosophies? The people have had enough, we want change!!!

This is the end of a pathetic episode in American History. Historians will write the final episode, for the worst Presidency in this, or any generation! They no longer control their fate/ place in time - but their legacy will!

BG, like so many others, is acutely disappointed/ disgusted, after 8 years of the Bush/Cheney nightmare of lies/deceit! The failures of these men are available, for all to see! Their record speaks for itself! Truth, a constant, always screams for the light of day and mourns for those who violate/deceive! Time will vindicate truth/light, but We the People, will have to suffer and endure because of them! All are forced to meander along that crooked/uncharted, danger ridden path back to prosperity and hope! We the People, victims all, will pay for their indiscretions, as they journey into a life of denial - unable to accept responsibilitly, for their catastrophic failures! Their fate is time tested, sadly, broken men, consumed by themselves - to the bitter end! How terribly sad! It didn't have to be this way!

What will it take to put America back on it's feet? Only Heaven knows! Pray for Obama and our diminished Republic!

Love him or hate him, we all have to admit that he did more to fight terrorism than any other leader in the world! Iraq became the watershed event that showed the world and al Qaida for the first time ever that terrorism can be defeated and how it can be defeated. I admire him as a man and as a leader! Israel is now in the war too, like it or not, terrorism is the largest threat to America and the free world! If we don't stop these murders the economy just won't matter that much, will it? If liberals hate him, you can rest assured he is on the right track. He is a far better leader in things that matter than "slick willy" ever was! Morals and courage to do what is right! Thank you President Bush!

. . . to see these cowardly mental pygmies line up to anonymously dis this honest, intelligent, decent man with their outrageously cynical and absolutely unsubstantiated left-wing hate speech. It's particularly sad that they feel emboldened to hit him so hard because he has decided not to hit back.

History will show these sometimes cute, but always irrelevant little ankle biters to be the lemming-like idiots they are.

I think there are a lot of people that are grateful that Bush was President when he was and that he was as committed to what he believed as he was. Had Clinton been president in Bush's stead, Cheney, Powell, Rumsfield, Reid, Pelosi, Gore, and many more would be dead right now all from, uh.. yeah suicide, plane wrecks and other 'freak accidents'. I'm actually thankful that Gore nor Kerry ever got to sit in the big chair. I can't imagine what electricity costs would be under Gore, or how much ketchup I'd be required to eat with Kerry.

"Help me out? | 7:00 a.m. Jan. 4, 2009 - When given the chance to vote for him in his last relection battle, why did Utahs help return him to office with the highest approval rating in the Nation? Also if he had such a high approval rating four years ago in Utah what is his approval rating today and how does it compare with the rest of the nation? Where did Utah's get their information to support such a high approval rating?"

Utahns generally give George Bush a fairly high approval rating because the majority (at least for now) is LDS and they know that what is important to them; God, family and country, is important to Bush.

I can't wait to see who all of these crybabies blame for their problems once Bush is gone. The only people I know who were not better off the first 6 years of GWB's presidency (before the last 2 when the Dems got control of congress) are the chronically lazy, the terrorists, and extreme liberals whose idea of democracy is to wear tunics and sandals and live off the fat of the land, pretending the terrorists won't see a good thing and overtake us.

Bush is gone. Now stop blaming and get back to work.
A New Moral Compass | 8:39 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: Bear Lake
To call Bush honest would be like calling Clinton Chaste. Bush DIDNT answer his critics (the citizens of our country) BECAUSE he doesnt value the office of the President and lacks the integrity to be responsible for his actions. Those of you who do not see President Bush in a good light are completely void of critical reasoning and blinded by the soothing lies of religion. If my child had the moral compass of Bush, I would consider myself a failure. If my childs teacher had his moral compass, I would withdraw him from school. If my cities mayor and police officers were on similar moral standing, I would make the ACLU my largest contributor.

Nixon and now Bush. You may seriously need to question to accuracy of your own moral compass

RE: David S. Decker

If Bush is a small dose of what your Heavenly Father has in mind for our country with an LDS president, then GOD HELP US! I can think of no better reason to vote NO for any LDS candidate. If fear-based leadership, tainted politics and a direct assault to our civil rights is your idea of a good time, then I pray fervently that NO LDS PRESIDENT will ever be unleashed upon our great nation.
A Rovian President | 8:58 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: David Farnsworth

Do you recall Carl Rove? The very source of the new word to our vocabulary, Rovian Politics? Do you remember a presidency won through fear-mongering and artful deception?

YES! Our country was nave and ignorant to have elected Bush. We were gullible and fell for the con. However, now were all the wiser, (expect the blinded right wing nuts in Utah). Just admit that you made a mistake. Accept the fact that your President, GODS PRESIDENT was a complete and total sham. You were deceived, just like the rest of us.

Possibly in the future, we all should question our source of truth, our decision making process, our gut feeling and not be so gullible in the future. God help us to do so.

The Future VS Truth | 9:18 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: Terry | 9:14 a.m. Jan. 4, 2009

I suppose history does have a tendency to soften the harshness of any presidency. Remember Nixon. Time does have a way of revealing the truth about a presidency. Now that more secret state documents are being reclassified and available to the public, we can see that Nixon purposefully continued the war in Vietnam just so he could get reelected.

We also clearly see now how Reagans war on communism turned into a murder machine that committed genocide in Guatemala to simply further his agenda of manipulating central American politicsand all this was done illegally AFTER congress told him not to. Remember Iran Contrawe now know REAGEN WAS GUILTY AS CHARGED!

The future will reveal that Bush really did manipulate the media and provoke an unholy war against Iraq. The future will reveal that Bush had no control over the Hawks within his own party. The future will reveal that Rovian politics were perfected in his administration and that all good citizens must be cautious in the future.

RE: The Mob

Youre not suggesting that a suspension of civil rights, hawkish war-mongering and pandering to the greedy fear-mongerers, is the right thing to do are you?

We have had eight years of conservative rule where it would appear that the very core of their beliefs are, how can I exploit the government more for my own selfish aims? Regardless, (irregardless is not a dictionary word) of any cover of war, many conservatives have made huge profits from an unholy war, and exploited the people of our nation in doing so.
The Bush Media | 9:47 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: jefejivaro | 5:41 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009

The Bush presidency was caught in too many lies, or as Reagan put it, disinformation. Bush and the Hawks got away with it long enough to get reelected, but eventually one lie leads to another, and another and eventually they got cornered in, where they were finally compelled to be responsible for their lies.

Then and only then did the presidency become silent. They could no longer keep up the charade without being exposed so they opted to keep quiet.

The media (I worked in the media for 12 years, so I followed this issue closely) originally was a pawn of the Bush administration, so far as to say that to get the truth someone had to read the foreign media. The Bush administration blatantly told the media that if they wrote anti-bush administration articles that their reporters would be dropped from his press corp. The bush administration also blatantly wrote news articles and blurbs and passed them off on the media as truth.

The media hates bush because he used and manipulated them, and caused them great embarrassment when they were caught naked in the woodshed together.
Re Patty Jones | 10:03 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
So if Bush isn't responsible for not providing Katrina relief, then what, pray tell, is FEMA all about? I mean, if it isn't what it claims to be, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, then what is it? Every emergency happens in a state or district, no? So why a Federal agency? And if it's not going to do its job, then why do we have it?

Seems like it's another opportunity to tax the people to provide a fake service. Now why would a Republican president do something to socialist? Hmm, one wonders. Maybe because Bush is a socialist. A quick read of the Patriot Act tells us that much.

Yes, New Orleans should have prepared itself. But how much has UT prepared itself for a major earthquake? Not well at all. And I live in SoCal. Everytime the Santa Ana winds start to blow, the Feds come in with disaster relief funds and firefighters from other states to battle the flames. I think you don't understand FEMA at all.

RE: It's sad | 5:15 a.m. Jan. 5, 2009

A true conservative at work: name calling, abundant use of deceptive catch phrases, and blatant ignorance.

Bush doesnt answer his critics not because of some deep character strength, but because hes been caught in too many deceptions already. Who can trust a man who outs his own spies because his wife wont tow the party line. Or who talks about freedom but acts to imprison and torture hundreds and curtails our civil rightsthe very thing that defines our freedom, and blatantly manipulates elections and the media.

Sadly, you may be right about the irrelevant little ankle bitters that I call American Citizens. Your disdain is saddening. It is quite possible that there is very little any of us idiots can do to restore the freedoms that were lost to us citizens and to correct the wrongs that were perpetrated upon the world by a greedy war-mongering fool of a president.

I admit the man had his flaws, but I think the media and the far left were extremely hard on him as a retribution for Limbaugh et al's treatment of Clinton.

Bush was just crazy enough to keep the crazy Islamo-terrorists guessing. Obama will roll over and play dead for these animals.

And what about the economy? Things are tough now. But I know a lot of people who were hurting back in the hey days of 2004, 2005, 2006. Some people aren't going to be financially independent no matter how good it gets. I hope Mr. Obama has already figured that out because I don't mind sharing a little, but there's no way I'll be taxed down to the level of the ne'er do wells.
Freedom From Socialism | 10:46 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
How is it possible that the Bush-loving theists of our nation could vehemently oppose socialism and all its evil forms yet so strongly support a massive military, which is 100% socialized. And to whole heartedly support the Patriot Act which too is uber-socialistic in nature. Of course these same God-fearing people give little regard to a regime that far exceeds socialism and boarders on complete oppression of other countries through war, sanctions, and blatant manipulation.

How is it possible that those that value freedom so much for themselves so gleefully deprive others of the same freedoms? Our nation shouldnt fear terrorists nearly as much as they do since the real threat to our freedom, our way of life, comes from youAmericas conservatives.

Possibly, all this is just a sign of the times when evil is called good and black is called white.
Who is Better Off? | 11:07 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: IQ 179 | 8:10 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009

Heres my list of those that are NOT better off after six years of the Bush Administration:

ScientistsThose that were told to modify their research results to support Bush policy-- particularly those that were researching global warming since global warming was not recognized by the bush administration.

The MediaLike those that were manipulated by the Bush administration to print only favorable articles. Lets not forget the administrations blatant creation of media and attempt to pass it off as unbiased news.

US VotersHow many people were deceived by Rovian politics and its dirty manipulation of our electoral process.

US AlliesFor being manipulated into supporting a war that they could clearly see was unprovoked and whos evidence was questionable from day one.

Non-ChristiansA presidency blinded by religious superstition and bias pushing his personal dogma onto a diverse nation.

Iraqis-- Illegal imprisonment, torture, invasion of their sovereign nation.

EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN AND NON-CITIZEN ALIKEan all those that value freedom.

Possibly you should have your IQ checked again if your only monitor of better off is monetary greed. It doesnt take a genius to see your deception.

President Bush faced an incredibly difficult presidency. I am interested to see what happens in the war on terror now that Obama has been voted in. If you think Bush has done nothing for our country, consider that we have not been attacked on our soil again after 9/11. Hate to break it to you, but Americans are hated in many parts of the world and there are those who would do anything to see us fall to our knees. We have had peace for eight years. Come back in four and we'll talk again.

Anyone know what Rove is doing? Oh yeah, the tv thing but that is just to tide him over.

Is he living in Utah? DC? He has pulled the wool over a lot of eyes and continues to make with the "smart" remarks; including the one where he was talking about whether Obama would get elected and how and then the announcer had to cut him off with "Obama is the winner." That was rude and crude to a guy who is supposed to know it all. Opps.

Someday someone will write up how Rove helped McCain behind the scenes. For lots of $$$$ of course, but the truth will slowly seep out. ozzing.

But do not cry for Argenti... er, Karl. He will find another patsy and feed the patsy the lines and then he will get back into power via lieing. I wonder how he and Dick got along? Was it a game of "you stay in your area" and "I will stay in mine"? Probably.

Oh the stories and books that will come out in the next 2 years. Good gossip, lots of stunning truths, and a lot of money for the authors.

Viva America!!! viva!!!

To the foolish and shortsighted who revel at doing nothing but bashing President Bush:

You are incessant cowards.

President Bush is by no means perfect but to listen to the mainstream media (which means 99% liberal), Bush can't even tie his shoes correctly.

So the guy mispronounced "nuclear".

Big fricking deal.

So he believed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

So did the vast majority of our nation's intelligence sources. And, oh, by the way, so did most of the liberal leaders you worship.

The little tid-bit of fact that Saddam Hussein was a murderous butcher, killing hundreds of thousands of his own people, and threatened millions of people in that part of the world has completely escaped your grasp on reality.

George Bush is a devout Christian who has loved and served this country with dignity and honor and negotiated it through perils not seen since the likes of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, for terrorists represent a far more elusive and dangerous threat than the Nazis or the Japanese of WWII.

And yet you fools deride him at every opportunity.

George Bush has done an EXCELLENT job given the circumstances of his presidency.

Re: Scientists. Did you know there are MANY scientists who say that global warming being caused by mankind is a farce AND they said that BEFORE Bush took office?

Re: Media. You said Bush manipulated the media to print only favorable stories of him? BWAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!!!....seriously, have you ever considered going into stand-up comedy?

Re: US voters. Uh, how exactly were they deceived? Did George Bush say he was going to create a larger government to take care of the perpetually lazy only to then say we need more tax cuts to spur the economy? Oh, wait a minute, that's what Obama's saying now....

Re: US allies. So if our allies could, quote: "clearly see" the Iraq war was unprovoked, then why did they join us in the war?

Re: Non-Christians. So one single man converted millions of non-Christians to Christianity? Really? When?

Re: Iraqis. What about the Iraqis who are now free from Saddam's brutal reign of terror?, AND, since the surge IS working, those who are rapidly freeing themselves from terrorists within Iraq?

Re: Every American. Notice any terrorist attacks in your part of America lately? Didn't think so.

Your move...

(BTW, Bush was in 8 yrs, not 6).
CLINTON 0/0 vs BUSH 1/2 | 10:01 p.m. Jan. 6, 2009
RE: come back in four years | 3:19 p.m. Jan. 6, 2009

We werent attacked for eight years while Clinton was president. Does that make him an outstanding president? Did you forget that 9/11 occurred on Bushs watch?

TERRORIST ATTACKS/WAR = CLINTON: 0/0 BUSH: 1/2 Is this your idea of peace?

You said We have had peace for eight years. Exactly where have you been for the past eight years? Have you completely forget that were in a war, even at this very moment? I sincerely hope that in four years well be OUT OF WAR!
