Not seeing the point here.

The Democratic leader of the Senate called to find out whom he should expect to see in January instead of Senator Obama. Quite reasonable.

I think the runner up to Obama should get the seat. That's who the people voted for. Enough of politics and picking your own candidate.

Reid/Blagojevich - now there's two peas from the same pod.

We're looking at two behind-the-scenes manipulators I would not trust to efficiently operate the local animal control shelter.

So the Senate Majority Leader called the governor about a senate seat.

That aint against the law.

And until the governor got arrested (six days later) it did not resemble anything untoward.

Blagojevich is going down and he is trying to tie all kinds of good and honest people to the same ship he is sinking on.

I think Reid is in La La Land on some issues.

But on this issue, his hands are clean. It is his in his political realm of leadership that he knows what is going on. And Illinois was not the only state with a senate vacancy that was probably going to go either democratic, or moderate republican. I can give Reid the benefit of the doubt that he would be checking in all around the country to see what was going on with each governor that had an appointment to make.

As far as Reid being in the same mold as the governor of Illinois, yeah right.

Not even in the same hemisphere as Blagojevich.

Reid is not popular in Utah, just because he is a democrat. Even though he is pro-gun, and moderate on many issues.

The Democratic Party is making a serious mistake not allowing Burris to be seated. Is Harry Reid so "hard headed" to bring on further embarrassment to himself and the Party?

Blagojevich is the Governor of Illinois and has the authority to appoint. Let Burris in.
Reid? | 8:23 a.m. Jan. 4, 2009
And Blagojevich are by definition a couple of manipulators, and two reasons we need to clean up politics. Politics has become a elitist class in this country, and until we eliminate it by having term limitation laws, and 'true' campaign laws that take out huge money contributions, and now on-line contributions, we are going to end up with a revolution to clean it up. I'm serious. And with all of this legal (illegal) manuevering Illinois will never get a senator seated. This legal system is being used in this country to shaft all of us, and not get the criminals to justice.

reid is out for reid, if it doesn't benefit reid he is not for it. Blogovich might be dirty, but like reid he has never been convicted of anything. Therefore until Blogivitch is no longer governor of Illinois, it is his right, per the constitution, to appoint a replacement for Obama. reid has nothing to do with it.
Ayawe | 8:57 a.m. Jan. 4, 2009
If the Governor is under arrest, what authority does he have to appoint? It should have been the Lt. Governor who did the appointing, or better yet (if it is in Illinois' constitution) the state senate should vote for an appointment. This governor should be impeached as fast as possible. I sometimes wish the United States provided for a vote of no confidence instead of an impeachment trial.

to Mirror Image...Yeah Right.

Even a casual look at Reid's record in his home state will reveal a myriad of questionable activities and ties....sound familiar? What about Reid's real estate transactions? What about his family's ties to either lobbying groups or positions politically connected? What about his son the lobbist?

Many things our government says is illegal are actually legal if a government representative is doing it!

Maybe one is younger and the other older; maybe one is from the West and the other from the Midwest. However if anyone thinks there's a dimes worth of difference in either's opportunistic approach to taking advantage of their positions in government to benefit themselves, their relatives and associates, I have some prime beach front land in the Mojave Desert to sell to that person.

noreastnv is correct throughout. I believe that the State of illinois needs to, and is entitled to have a full complement of representation when Congress begins. Why have Senate leaders vowed to oppose the appointment of Burris. What give them that right? Because they think he might be unelectable when he runs for the seat? Other states involvement in states rights issues is one of the unintended consequences of the 17th amendment. Before, the State Legislature would have reappointed the Senator to replace Obama and the United States would still be standing in Congress. Citizens direct input to thier state legislative representative and Senator would have guided the selection.

Democrats = scandal. Republicans aren't much better, but corruption in IL politics is just the way business is done. Always has been, always will be.

Obama comes from a state where an honest politian is an oxymoron. I am sure there are those that try, but I have lived there and am so glad I don't anymore. Bribes, graft, corruption. Just another day at the office.

God help us.

watching the name calling in this forum is pathetic. Republicans v. Democrats. The real issue is we have a corrupt, self serving, greed driven Governor who refuses to step down. He would rather people focus on other issues than him. It seems to be working.
GTO | 5:58 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
Reid probably offered him a deal; advancement in the Democratic party if he would give up his position. Democrats do that all the time, as per Barney Frank, Hillary, Ted Kennedy. et al who are caught in a corruption scandle and then gain power within their party! If he were a Repubican, he would already be out of office in disgrace. My question to you dems, is how so you do it? How do you get away with this, time and time again? Inquiring minds want to know!
To GTO | 8:24 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009
It's easy. Democrats have no conscience.
Power is all that matters. You can hope all you want, but that will never change.

Because Reid is a democrat you never read Reid, a Mormon, but if Romney sneezed the news would be Romney, a Mormon....
