...Even by the absurd standards of the BCS, having voters not bother to watch an undefeated team play a single game is a new low...
...The coaches and Harris polls make up two-thirds of the BCS rankings. The average of six computer formulas is the other third.
Frustration with the BCS is often pointed at those faceless computers. Its the human opinion polls, however, that are most subject to bias, laziness or disinterest
The computers cant help but plug in Utahs info. One of them even had the Utes ranked No. 2.
The 61 voters in the coaches poll and 114 in the Harris werent as kind. They often voted on what they thought Utah might be, not what they saw Utah actually was. In a testament to copy-cat voting, almost everyone had the Utes between No. 7 and No. 10 in the polls.

At the end of regular season:
1. Oklahoma .805
1. Utah .805
3. Texas .800
4. Florida .794
This is before Utah blown out Alabama (#6 in this poll).

I was at BYU in 1984 and agree with the Governor's assertion--Utah's '08 team is better, though that takes nothing away from the Bosco-led squad.
With the Ohio State fiasco last night the Utes chances of winning the national title died nationally, but in my heart and mind they are the #1 team in the nation.
Well Done Utes!
In my opinion, the best post on this entire blog came from utahmanami, "When the final history of the BCS is written, it will be noted that the BCS came to be largely because of what BYU did in 1984 and ended, at least in part, because of what the University of Utah did in 2009." I would like to add that Bosie State made a strong statement as well.
The best way to bring down the BCS is for the non-BCS teams to keep WINNING and WINNING and WINNING.
#1 Oklahoma vs #2 Florida - the loser has 2 losses and can't be in the top 5. The winner still has 1 loss and should be tied w/Utah at #1
#3 Texas - barely beat #10, has a loss, and beat same number of top 25 teams as Utah (4). They should not be ranked above #4.
#4 Alabama - we already know what happened to them
#5 USC - beat #8, but no worse than Utah beat #4. USC has one loss, to Oregon State, who Utah beat. Should not be ranked higher than Utah.
#6 Utah - the only undefeated team in division 1, beat 4 Top 25 teams, including a decisive win over #4 Alabama. Should at least get a share of #1 ranking.
1) Tie - Utah and OU/UF winner
3) USC
4) Texas
5) OU/UF loser
THE REASON THE UTAH UTES ARE ALL OF SUDDEN COMPETIVE IS BECAUSE THE UTES IN THE LAST 2 OR 3 YEARS HAVE BEEN RECRUITING IN "BIG STATE OF TEXAS". ENOUGH SAID?
POLITICIANS SHOULD STICK TO POLITICS AND STAY OUT OF THE COLLEGE SPORTS.
IF UTES DO GET INTO A BCS CONFERENCES "PAC 10, BIG 10, BIG 12" ETC YOU WILL NOT LIKE THE OUTCOME.

The same logic can be applied to Utah in 2008: You realize of course that, but for a few lucky plays, Utah would have lost to TCU, AFA, and OSU this year. The Ute response has been: we found a way to win. That is all that matters! The same applies to your comment.
"You had a nice run a few decades ago. Have fun continuing to be mediocre."
Wow, so I heard this in 198xx whenever Fassel took over, then again when McBride took over, after Crowton's disastrous seasons, etc. Utes have been pronouncing the demise of BYU's program repeatedly over the years. I have confidence that your declaration will be just as accurate as your predecessors'.
