I am having a hard time with this. I have been involved with both faiths. In LDS I have met some of the most beautiful people I have ever met and also the worst. I now have chose not to be involved with any church as have more people that attend any church, anywhere. The majority will not go to church just for this reason, they choose to worship in their home. 10 million Mormons, ??? Catholics, someones cup should be overflowing and it isnt is it?? If you think the hatred and the bigotry and yes,the superior, elite, better than thou status is appealing you are wrong. It is very disenchanting and very non-christian and to mix religion with politics, after what this country have gone through WHY would you do that? Go reread your bible. God loves us all and you just dont get that do you????

You're right. I wasn't a fraction as nasty as a lot of the anti-Mormons but of course it was uncalled for. Mormons aren't allowed to get ticked off without the anti-s screaming bloody murder. I forgot.
Re: Lizzy | 10:04 p.m. Dec. 29, 2008
Actually, "Um" didn't mention anybody at all by name. He or she simply said that being insulted for his/her beliefs and lifestyle - and that actually is something that Gil and Rachel showed their willingness to do - was reason to avoid a person. It's not reason to avoid everybody, of course, and it's not a reason to shun people who believe and live differently, but when somebody spends their time actively insulting you, you don't want to be around them. Nobody looks for friends who treat them that way.

My opinion on James Dobson has now plummeted to new lows. I am both saddened and ashamed to have fought side-to-side with his group, Focus on the Family, in support of Prop. 8. (But I am not ashamed of supporting the cause.)
They are indeed the modern-day Pharasees.
United we stand, divided we fall, (and fail.)
It's only a matter of time, that good people of all conservative faiths will have to succumb to the forces of the "new morality", largely because of his divisive ilk.
Thanks Jimmy!

I don't see any "Um" on here? Who in the heck is Um? I read all the posts and find no fuddie-duddie by the name of "Um" on here! Is someone trying to be funny with the Um stuff? I'm in agreement though with Rachael and Golfer Gil.
re: ROBERT | 6:42 a.m. Dec. 30, 2008
If witnessing to Mormons is your goal, don't you think it'd be more effective to build on common ground through dialogue? Is it really necessary to point out the obvious differences in doctrine as a caveat? Are Beck's thoughts on Christmas somehow dangerous to Evangelicals because he's Mormon?

Commenters aren't mad at FotF for pointing out differences in beliefs (which could easily be done with a caveat - "WARNING: Contents may reflect LDS beliefs - FotF is not responsible for Satanic heresies), but for the implication that a non-denominational book on the spirit of Christmas (hardly a controversial theme), and which initially merited an article by FotF, is somehow worthless, perhaps even dangerous, because its author is a Mormon. It shouldn't be difficult to comprehend why it's galling to be told that our thoughts on Christmas shouldn't be given attention, especially when that wasn't FotF's initial position.

This is purely theological boundary maintenance by an Evangelical group; I don't see concern for my heretical soul, but instead see fear that some Evangelicals might actually agree with what a Mormon has to say on a subject that we mutually agree upon.

excerpt from Focus site: "..However, to promote a Mormon as a Christian is not helpful to the cause of Jesus Christ."

there you have it...Evangelicals DO NOT NEED Mormons for anything they are considering.
We Momons are the red-headed step child of Christianity.
But, we will survive as we have in the past.
We need to get over the need to be 100% accepted by self-proclaimed "Christians".
The Satan will never accept Christ....Evangelicals will never accept LDS....unless converted by the Holy Ghost.
We need to stop the unreasonable expectations of Evangelicals being full of love for us...just look at the nasty slams posted here by some of them...the self-appointed de facto spokemen.
They, admittedly, are not official emissaries, but they most definitely convey the Evangelical nessage from the Evangelical heart.

that every active LDS on this comment board has or will go to citizenlink and tell them not only how you feel about their actions, but also what you feel about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Don't hold back your thoughts and feelings, be kind, be respectful, but be truthful. I did it twice and I am so glad that I did.
Gary Petersen | 9:14 a.m. Dec. 30, 2008
Focus on the Family did not just eliminate a link to a story. They objected to a video of Beck's "testimony". Evangelicals sincerely believe that the way Mormons become deceived in the first place is by the influence of Satan in manipulating people's emotions and minds through these Mormon "testimonies". Therefore, it makes complete sense that they would not want their audience to be subjected to that influence.

Mormons are no different. You sanitize your television watching and screen your family's internet access because you don't want them to be exposed to the influences of Satan!

It is completely hypocritical to begrudge Focus on the Family for doing what YOU also do!

How does it feel to be persecuted? As an active member (temple recommend and a calling) I was embarrassed and angry about the support by the church to support a political issue like Prop 8. I believe we have no business in someone else's life we should focus on making each of our lives better. We should leave worrying about other people's beliefs and affairs to the right wing christian wacko's. I like Glenn Beck and watched him all the time and agree with about half of what he said, I am sad to see him move to Fox. Because of this move I will not be watching him anymore, I do not agree with he way Fox manipilates the news and treats us all like DUMB sheep.
Religion is Divisive | 12:05 p.m. Dec. 30, 2008
I love it when those who claim a divine right and unique claim on a God fight amongst themselves about who is more correct. Silly waste of time. All religions are the same in that they all think they are correct, and all the others are wrong. What a completely irrational thing for humans to waste time on. Do something good -- don't just claim to be divinely good because of a man-made Church.

ROBERT | 6:24 p.m. Dec. 30, 2008
Thanks re:ROBERT at 6:42am for your comments. I have dialogued with many LDS people about the nature of God, which you could call common ground, but shortly into our dialogue they all want to change the subject or get made and start name calling.
I suspect this is also one of the reasons that Focus on the Family pulled Beck's book is because of the LDS teaching that God was once a man like you and I. This contradicts the Biblical view which is also the Evangelical view. Psalm 90:2 says that God is from everlasting to everlasting and Genesis says that God created the universe and all things in it. So God could not have been a man before becoming God because there was nothing until God created it. Which came first the chicken or the egg? Which was here first God or man?

The Mormon view of God is very troublesome to Evangelicals!

Divisive,

I agree. It is laughable if it wasn't so pathetic and dangerous.

"I worship the TRUE God!"

"No, you don't, I do! My God has a body!"

"You worship Satan. Only Satan has a body. The True God is a Spirit!"

"No, the True God is our Father, so he has to have a body because we have bodies and we are like him!"

"No, we are his children only figuratively, as in we are his creation, not his literal offspring who will grow up to be Gods ourselves. That is polytheism. You are a pagan!"

"Well my Dad's bigger than your Dad!"

"But your Church isn't overrepresented in Congress, so you can't be right!"

"Well your football team lost, so you aren't right!"

Meanwhile, what do you suppose God is doing?

...EXACTLY!

Not-confused | 3:23 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Naw..God isnt sobbing. Look outside at Sunset tonight, he sent us a sign. An abundance of love. Jupiter and venus are hugging each other, that is what God wants us to do, love one another. Now I know I have heard that someplace before....
God Bless you all- Happy New Year to all Faiths. not just one or two but all mankind
