"Cook is the winner but It was not joyful and happy win" Say what? Speak for yourself, Copy Cat. Looked "joyful and happy" from where I was sitting. Sorry you had a different experience...but that was almost seven months ago. Both David's are doing great.

This is Simon laying out bait for publicity and people jumping to the bait. Go buy a CD for your preferred contestant to support them, or make a charity donation in their name for Christmas, guys. This? Not so much.

Yes, Simon, both of the Davids will have great careers in the music industry. Both are extremely talented and have worked hard to EARN the respect of their fans.

But, NO Simon, neither one is boring. Unlike what may be the custom in the UK, America looks favorably on young men with talent, manners, dedication, love of home and family, loyality to friends, & I could go on and on....

It seems that Simon only wants conflict to feed his ego and raise ratings whereas all WE want is an honest show to discover the musical genius of people like David Cook and David Archuleta.

Enough already Simon!
Oh, Mr. Oops | 12:06 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Your analogy of David Archuleta is so lame to say the list. Modesty aside he is much more popular than your Idol David Cook. For your Idol Cook has no originality and he sound like Chris Daughtry and we only need one Chris in the music industry. Plus his Dad is doing fantastically well in managing Archies career that is why he is fully booked this December and preparing for his solo concert next spring. His popularity is souring like an Eagle than your David Cook, modesty aside again.

Some of you guys sure shout a lot. Simon's doing what he's paid to do - stir up interest in the next season. Last season's winner is doing just fine. So is the runner-up. I read the numbers in the article, how many albums the public has bought. Great for this economy.

This season's contestants can only hope to be as talented as last years, and hope the new format gives them a fighting chance to show it....and I don't mean fighting with Simon. What nonsense.

Merry Christmas.
Tricia | 1:02 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I'm glad to hear that Simon thinks that both Davids will be successful. I'm a huge David Archuleta fan and always thought he was super talented. I disagree that the contestants last year were boring. I thought it was one of the best yet as far as talent goes. Yes Simon, personality is important but to most viewers it's the TALENT that matters. I realize American Idol is a reality show but it's also supposed to be a singing comeptition. I was soo glad that Randy saw David's talent through the whole season last year. Pretty faces and personality are part of the package but it's the voice and/or performance that draws people to watch. Both Davids had that.
Dugan | 2:00 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
All you conspiracy theorists typing in Caps all over this comment section?

Telescope is the independent company that certifies the votes for Idol, and manages the phone and text lines, as they do for other TV shows. Their CEO, Edward Boddington, was on stage at the Finale to present the results to Ryan Seacrest. You may remember this?

If you have doubts about the honesty of the results, address them to Telescope, the company that oversees and reports them. They are easily found through a search; I'm sure they would be pleased to hear from all the disgruntled people who want to accuse them of rigging the voting and messing with the phone lines. No doubt they are used to it. (that is sarcasm)

What's next, accusing BillBoard of reporting the album sales incorrectly?
I wouldn't be surprised to read that either...which is just a sad commentary on fanatics, as opposed to Fans.

I have to say that I am thrilled that David Archuleta turned out a truly young sounding pop album and not some soupy ballad-snoozer for the easy-listening crowd. I loved the strength and tone of his voice during the AI season and his album is fabulous. The songwriters knew exactly how to showcase his voice and he has an uncanny ability for someone so young for phrasing and interpretation--what a voice that kid has!!! He really showed all the people who thought he couldn't be marketed just because he was stuck singing Andrew Lloyd Weber and Mariah Carey tunes on American Idol. Way to go, David! He has a huge future ahead of him...
poniente | 4:04 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
It is good to know that Simon feels confident the Davids will have good careers and are smart. However, I cannot believe he really thinks this last year's contestants were boring unless he equates hard work and good values with boring. David Cook is hilarious in his comedy sketches on TV and rivetingly sensual in his stage performances. He is anything but boring. As for the Archuleta fans who scream and insult, don't they realize that that reduces the credibility of David Archuleta. I always wonder what poor David A. must think, does he doubt himself and ask what it is about him that attracts such nutcases? And by the way, what is it about him that attracts such nutcases?
Oh, Dugan | 6:26 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
OH, DUGAN YOU ARE OVER REACTING - THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE! YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ALBERT EINSTEIN AND IF YOU ARE TRYING TO RIGGED THE RESULT THEY COULD HAVE DONE IT IN A SUBTLE WAY TO MAKE IT LOOK BELIEVABLE LIKE 1 MILLION OR 2 MILLION NOBODY WILL NOTICE IT BUT 12 MILLION VOTES ARE YOU KIDDING ME. PLUS YOUR IDOL DAVID COOK HAS A CREDIBILITY ISSUE AND DIDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE WHERE HE GOT HIS ARRANGEMENT UNTIL THE ARTIST SPEAKOUT IT WAS AN EMBARASSMENT HE WAS JUST CAUGHT UNFORTUNATELY - AI JUST THE DOWNPLAY THE SITUATION - IT JUST SAD AND THATS THE TRUTH.
Dugan | 6:55 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
There 'is' something sad here, and quite possibly the poster who is shouting in all Caps is the one sadly over-reacting. You keep your 'truth', I see that you desperately need it. My sympathies. I have no wish to dispute those obvious absurdities, it only lends them credence. I'll stick with the easily researched facts, of which you have provided none.

Also, Merry Christmas.

Oh, and Poniente? IDK.

Linahandbasket | 7:34 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
While I wish all the best to American Idol Season 8 contestants, I feel sorry for them, because I don't see how they could compare to Season 7. I will watch next season, but emotionally have invested my all into Season 7, and will never care so much again. It was by far the best group for total talent. Happily there weren't any that I would scratch my head over, as in previous seasons, and think "Huhh, how'd they get through?".
I think Simon Cowell likes to stir things up just to get attention for the show. I thinks he equates niceness with being boring, and these contestents as a group were nice, and respectful to each other. Perhaps Simon thinks this makes the show less entertaining, but honestly, the judges make up for that by being rude or ditzy!
I honestly can say I really LIKED all top ten of Season 7, and wish them the best. Nothing boring about them, I'll remember them way longer than previous seasons contestants, most of whom I've already forgotten!
My ultimate favorite of all time is David Archuleta! He is truely an amazing singer, and only just getting started. Got ODD!
Oh, Dugan | 7:46 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO YOU,DUNCAN. YOU JUST NEED TO CHILL OUT A LITTLE BIT, HONEY!

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now own our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
From now own our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more

Through the years, we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
Incipit | 7:49 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Linahandbasket, I think you are so right! Simon equates niceness with being boring. Manners, courtesy, consideration for others, all that good stuff we try to teach our kids, and are pleased to see represented by the contestants, just bore him. It's not "Good TV".
And I too feel sorry for Season 8 contestants if they attempt 'any' of the songs from the top contenders this year - WNTS probably has "Imagine" and "Hallelujah" and ABMB with several others on a long list of "Don't even think about it" songs.
I don't know if my curiosity will lead me to even take a look at any of AI this year. Like you and many other people, even though we may have had a different choice -I've found my Idol - I'm not looking for another. Sorry, Simon. Ish.
Debbie | 11:49 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
David A got grabbed my attention with his heart pearcing vocals, and stole my heart with the beautiful soul that he is, the fact that he is a dropdead georgous is only the icing on the cake. David A earned my votes when I never voted for anyone in the 7 years I watched AI. David A has IT in spades, I never need to watch AI again, I found my idol. David A is the best to ever grace the AI stage, no one will ever be in the same league as David. Go listen to his acapella Christmas songs on utube. His Christmas album will be the best selling Christmas album of all time. I have never be so capivated by a performer in my life or spent time wanting to know everything possible about him, I am hoplessly devoted and enjoying every minute.
Becca | 12:32 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Wow, is David A really singing in Barrack's inaugaration? What an honor! Where did you read this? I heard he was invited to attend the Inauguration but not sing. I hope it's true.

Anyway DAVID ARCHULETA IS MY IDOL!! haha..love you David, will always be behind you one hundred percent. Hey everyone, check out his new music video A Little Too Not Over You on Yahoo music. He sure looks gorgeous!
Patti | 5:51 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Just to clarify----if you bought the pre-order of David Archuleta's CD from itunes, plus the Wal-Mart CD, there were four extra tracks. Along with ALTNOY, his next single, and "Don't Let Go" from his album, David co-wrote 3 other songs----one of them "Falling" by himself when he was fourteen years old! All five of his own songs are awesome. So to "oops" above, go listen to the songs he has "written and performed" and then re-write you comments.
Bob2 | 10:10 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Davids who?
Baby food for people with no taste.
Indyfan2 | 10:40 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Last season showcased real talent and that's not what AI is really looking for obviously. This is a reality show for gosh sakes. It can't be too serious. The fact that they stumbled on real talent was an accident and didn't fit their bill for what a reality show should be about - drama, low IQ appeal, controversy, high ratings. The talent on seven 7 was too good for a reality show. The producers made a mistake by choosing talented individuals who really made it a serious competition. This bored Simon but intrigued a new set of fans that have been thirsty for something "real" on TV for years. Simon has run his course on AI and he knows it. His real personality and motives are becoming so transparent, he's become a hindrance to the show. He needs to be put out to pasture with the "has beens" soon. Nothing that he says anymore has any real credibility and never will. I hear he's possibly leaving next year, and sadly, many feel AI is on it's last leg as well. Thankfully, there has been some real talent brought to the surface for the world to enjoy for many years.
fan4ever | 12:03 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
WoW Simon, you will say anything to ensure that people watch AI. Even it it means making yourself look as foolish as the people you put on your auditions, and make fun of.

AI could really be a great show, if they only knew how to produce it with style, not comedy.

Congratulations to both David's you will be successful, I just wish peiople would stop comaring them to AI and each other. They are out on their own now.

Let them do their own thing.
Marylee | 1:15 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
I'm very glad to hear that Simon is pleased with David Archuleta's accomplishments in the music industry so far which are beyond phenomenal. The one thing that I disagree with is that Season 7 was BORING! I was thoroughly entertained but especially by David Archuleta. He was amazing in spite of all the controversy surrounding him. He handled himself admirably for his age. If it had not been for him, I probably wouldn't have watched, so for me it was far from boring, especially the Finale...it was the best I've ever seen! Once again, DA rocked the house that night and showed he was meant to be the next American Idol. He's still an Idol in the eyes of thousands which is obvious by his diverse fanbase that is growing every day! Way to go David!!
Move On ! Move ON! | 1:26 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
1.Shut up, Simon. The more you open your mouth the more you are contradicting yourself. You are just for the money and you got your millions every year so, shut up. A lot of people won't watch American Idol next year - I am sure for one. Sorry for the season 8 contestant.

2. We already found our American Idol the rightful winner: David Archuleta! Thank You!

3. Beware! For a stroll of David Cook Fans is pretending to be David Archuleta Fans don't take the bait. Archie popularity is just unstoppable its a force of nature you cannot stop it.

4. David Cook Fans you need to move on. Yes, Cook Won American Idol - We don't need any convincing you need to move on. Hahahaha! Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year !!
No to Simon Says | 2:13 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Not playin' - never did. Don't need Simon or anyone else to tell me what I'm listening to, or whether I should like it. Was more than happy to see that viewers voted their own choices, and paid no mind to Simon.

Simon is optimistic about the future for both Davids? Yeah, like there's anything to be pessimistic about - they're both talented guys, and doing fine without his endorsement...public's voting with their wallets now, and Simon's out of the picture. Platinums and Golds are happening.

Good luck to this season's contestants, they'll need it, the way Simon is talking about having the show go down. Wild cards - Four judges yammering, less time for singing - manufactured drama?
Yeah, just what they needed. Not.

I'll be watching when David Cook comes back to sing on an Idol episode, wouldn't miss that! Love that new commercial, BTW. And I'll get a kick out of seeing his picture up on the wall, for sure. Other than that, I have only casual interest.

pam | 2:16 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Simon can't make up his mind what the truth is! One day its this the next its something else. David Archuleta is the most promising singer to come out of AI. Some AI winners previously has had more time to fine tune themselves. David is unique with the most technical skills and vocals in the last 20 yrs. Even Lithygow (SP) in an interview in England has some statements about who really won. So lets not dilute the truth just because you may like Rock over POP, Cook is very average with a great deal of experience previous to AI who had an album out already. It was his last chance to get somewhere and he certainly took his friendship with David A to solidify an edge. By all means let not forget the final on AI, who was the knockout?
Marylee | 2:35 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Move On! Move On!...I agree 100%!
The competition is over and the two Davids are the first to reinforce this message! They each will have their own stellar careers, of this I'm sure. I don't understand why this still has to be a contest...it's over...it's BEEN over. Let's just focus now on what these two great artists have to offer us in the future!
That's what I'm talking about | 8:52 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Indyfan2 - well said.
The Verdict | 12:03 p.m. Dec. 25, 2008
AND THE RIGHTFUL WINNER GOES TO DAVID ARCHULETA !

TO ALL FANS:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING UNWAIVERING LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR ARCHIE - FOR HE WELL DESERVED IT AND MERRY CHRISTMAS ! HIS CD ALBUM IS NOW GOLD AND GOING STRONG FOR PLATINUM.

THE KID WITH THE GOLDEN VOICE !

asma08 | 6:41 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
I think AI 2008 was the best of all AI sessions. If you want to watch and enjoy the AI 2009, just ignore the blaah blaah blaah mouth of Simon and enjoy the show. He flip-floping his words many times, it's just like is he says "grape" the next day the grape turns into "wine" LOL.
What I was impressed: The young David could take Simon's sarcasm humbly and politely. Simon should learn to be a nice person from him. And up to now David A never said nothing bad about Simon.....shame on you Simon. Both David C and David A will have long careers ahead of them regardless what Simon commented. We are the ones who decide to buy their CDs or albums not Simon, and we are the ones who enjoy their voices/CD or albums.
eyeswideshut | 6:57 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
I can understand why the Archie fans feel so disgruntled. David A so perfectly fits the Idols mold that in any other season he would have won. And you have to hand it to the kid - he never buckled under the pressure. He was just unlucky to come up against someone who outclassed him as both a singer and a musician. And (weirdly) America got it.

Let the CAPITALS commence.
