How ever you count it, over 60% of Utah's wins in the series came before more than a handful of college football fans owned a color television.

Once again, BYU fans are ok with living in the past when it makes them look
good. But don't want to look at the overall picture. Either look at the

I will be smiling all the way to NO. BYU had the chance of knocking that smile off my face but they didn't, see scoreboard 48-24, instead the smile got wider.

I actually am from the state of Utah and WAS going to cheer for the Utes, but I
can't bring myself to do it because of the annoying Ute fans on these
comment boards. I, with my family, will be cheering for the Utes to lose (again
not because I'm a "bitter Cougar fan") but simply because I
don't like the majority of the Ute fan base, PERIOD. Hey Utes, when you
are back to taking third place in conference (NEXT YEAR, for instance.... and
for the next several years, and winning 7 to 8 games a year, just remember this:
the "bitter Cougar fans" finished third in conference this year,
still won at least 10 plus games (three years consecutively) and still ranked in
the BCS top 16 (Ute third place finishes in the MWC are 7-8 wins and UNRANKED)!
Until you can put three, 10 plus, winning season together, CONSECUTIVELY...
better yet, just do it two years in a row... then give cougar fans all the

Dude, you define bitter. You are part of this tit-for-tat crowd that blames
each other for causing your disdain. Fact is, you choose to be bitter, no one
does that for you. So, cheer for whomever you choose. Most of us don't
care, but you obviously feel that posting your negative comments some how
impacts our desire to cheer for the Utes. Go away... I hope your beloved

Shortly after Alabama lost its first game of the season -- and any chance to
play for a national championship -- Nick Saban muttered something that might add
a little spice to the next contest.
The Crimson Tide coach said his team was the only one "that plays in a real BCS conference that went 12-0."
Utes are just happy-happy-joy-joy to be getting slaughtered by a real team.

Bitter Annoying Cougar Fans | 12:21 p.m. Dec. 17, 2008
Need we say anything else? Putting consecutively 10+ winning seasons together,
are those the straws we are grasping at? Come on Cougs just politely step aside
and let us enjoy an incredible season. It's not your time to shine, maybe
next year? Perhaps go and enjoy a Cougars basketball game, they are still on
their quest for perfection, take some pride in that. (I hope I just didn't
encourage some Y student into throwing away tuition money to print new quest
shirts) If you really want to feel good, think of Steve Young and Ty Detmer
giving each other a big hug followed by a high five. All I'm interested in
speaking with are BAMA fans! You are nothing more than a pleasant after
thought. I enjoy seeing each one of you at church, work, mall, ect... You all
bring a huge smile to my face. But I have to say our dialogue ends here, lets

The overall picture is that Utah's football program tanked, disappeared,
went incognito after their 2nd bowl game and first national ranking in 1964 and
didn't reappear until 1994.
Utah had never accomplished ANYTHING on a national scale before 1964, and it took them another 30 years before they accomplished anything else.
In their entire history, Utah has only been ranked in the final polls 4 times (5 times, if you include 2008):
1964 - AP unranked, Coaches #14
1994 - AP #10, Coaches #8
2003 - AP #21, Coaches #21
2004 - AP #4, Coaches #5
2008 - currently #7 in both polls
Utah has only had four 10 or more win seasons in their history.
Except for a string of bowl wins over mostly mediocre teams, Utah really hadn't done anything on a national scale in football until their breakthrough 2004 BCS team.
Utah is still waiting to win its first national player award.

Utah has never been ranked higher then BYU nationaly?
Talk about grasping at straws. No sane Ute will argue that BYU was the better program in 70s-80s. BUT 90's was a toss up and now Utah is the best non-BCS program.
If you have any facts to prove me wrong then please provide them.

Us Ute fans can't wait for Saturday night when the "Quest For
Perfection 2009" begins with a victory over an impressive 7-5 Arizona team;
probably by a slim margin after an Arizona player mistakenly runs the wrong
direction and scores a TD for the Cougs. As much as we would love to spend all
summer listening to Bronco and his drones build their own hype and mystic, I
can't help but wonder if the sheepish Utah media will buy it this time
around, especially with a potential Oklahoma matchup and the loss of Austin
"We're the best team in the country even though we keep losing twice a
year" Collie to the NFL. Losing Collie will hurt, but hey that Chambers
kid keeps telling us he's the greatest so that might not be too bad of a
loss, but the Sooners might be a little tough. BYU's only hope there is if
OK decides to stop throwing the ball and goes back to the wishbone before
August.

Not a bitter Cougar fan here, just want the MWC to do well. Good luck to both
teams in their bowls. Bama looks very good this year, going to take a great
game from Utah to win. BYU needs to step up and win their bowl game and prepare

Meanwhile the Utes get creamed in the 1st quarter, and the game is out of reach before the second quarter begins. They make everyone forget about Hawaii, keep their yappers barking like the little puppies thry are, and finish the season 6-6 in 2009.
But at least they get a 10 win season out of their basketball team, Drca providing the cheap shots, and Neville putting up 8 points a game, continuing Utah Basketball's renaissance of mediocrity.
10-2 three years straight, 2 conference losses in 3 years, 2/3 last MWC championships, players returning, a depleted Utah team, 10-0 in basketball (Utah 9th in conference at 5-4)...
It's a rosy future for the Cougars.

You people are crazy!!! Do ya'll go on like this all the time? I am a BAMA
fan and live in Tuscaloosa Al and BAMA and Auburn have a deep hate for each
other but u people take to another level. I would pay to come to Utah see your
teams play, I bet that would be off the chart. I guess you play every year? U
guys talk about each other more than the bowl games u are in. Why don't
save some money and just play each other again and put it on pay per view. And

The MWC needs to win their bowl games to validate the season as a whole for the
conference. The press here in Tucson are getting crazy with their predictions
concerning the Vegas Bowl and all of them are hinting that it will be a Arizona
blowout. While I am not the biggest BYU fan, I think the lack of respect for
the Cougars is not justified.
Utah can play with Alabama and can present problems for them that the Tide wouldn't see in SEC opponents. TCU is a lot better team the BSU, they just need to go out and prove it. GO MWC!!

Nobody can deny that BYU has had a very successful football program. I am a Utah fan and I know this is true. They have competed well in the arena the MWC/WAC has been allowed to play.
However, before you beat your chest too hard take into consideration your statement you made regarding Utah. "Except for a string of bowl games OVER MOSTLY MEDIOCRE teams, Utah hasn't really done anything on a national scale in football until their 2004 breakthrough season." You forget that although BYU has played some college football names in bowl games they have not beaten anyone with too high of a profile:
1. Michigan (6-5. Not championship caliber!)
2. Kansas St: 3rd place in Big 12 and 9-3. (I feel this was BYU's best team ever and could have competed with almost anyone).
3. SMU
4. WSU
5. Missouri
6. Colorado
7. Oklahoma
8. Oregon
9. UCLA
*Even then OK and OR are the only blowouts.

Utah has not played anybody better, but they have beaten who has been placed before them. It is a shame the 2004 Utes did not get a chance to show who they were. Pitt was an insult!

Brian Johnson is going to be cool under pressure. His abilities have taken a quntum leap since the TCU game. The Utes have a good shot if they execute their game plan and aren't too tired by the 4th quarter.

So now you want us to give your Cougs credit for declaring themselves the
BCS-Busters for 2008 and putting themselves on course for the "Quest for
Perfection." You are really reaching here. I'd say Utah's goals
fall in line with just about every other college team in the country; win their
conference title. But no, we should praise your Cougars for the arrogance and
self-rightousness to start their own hype about being undefeated, and 4 weeks
into that Quest about being included in the National Championship picture. You
can blame everyone you want but it won't change the facts. Bronco started
this mess and couldn't deliver on it. You all had mud slung in your face
first by TCU, then by your big brothers to the north. Take your crow down to
Vegas, keep your mouths closed for a change, try to defeat a 7-5 Arizona team
and relish in the reality that we have what you don't, and will never have.
10-2 is good, 12-0 is PERFECTION. Only difference is we didn't brag about
it BEFORE it happened!

I agree. If you look at BYU's overall bowl wins you will find that their
victories are all close, but those noted. Although the names of Colorado,
Oklahoma, Oregon, and Ucla make the list of teams BYU has beaten in a bowl game
these teams were mediocre themselves.

This is what it is like all year long...it only intensifies during the season.
I was an LDS missionary in Alabama (ROLL TIDE) for two years. I saw the rivalry
between Bama and Auburn and it is intense. I really have a hard time trying to
figure which is the better rivalry. As far as hatred in a rivalry Utah/BYU wins
hands down. But, the better rivalry is hard. Utah and BYU are not offered the
same opportunities year in/out Bama and Auburn are in the sense of National
implications. So, you have the National Championship race to throw in your mix.
Here you have a State owned institution (Utah) and a Church owned
institution(BYU). You throw the church vs. state in the rivalry and it makes
for good times! Can't wait for the Sugar Bowl! GO UTES!!!! (and roll
tide...shhhhhh).

Apparently Alabama fans don't know that Utah mans up all the time on
defense. They also don't seem to get that the Tide has an incredibly
anemic offense as it is. Their quarterback will be so confused by Utah's
schemes that he'll be sacked at least five time and throw at least two
interceptions. The SEC forgets that real quarterbacks play football in the
west.

Please realize that most of the Bama fans who will be attending the game are not of the holier-than-thou variety that all of these sportswriters write about. They want you to believe there is a sense of entitlement and arrogance in Tuscaloosa. Yes, we love our football and yes we expect to win every game. We do not however take it for granted! Maybe we did in the past, but we've been through enough in the past decade or so to know that every win is hard fought. We appreciate how special it is to have a history rich in tradition.
We are your typical hospitable southerners. We enjoy a smash mouth football game and will hug your neck when we say goodbye (win or lose). We expect common courtesy, but will give you as much as we get if you get in our face.

Nothing like reading a story about Utah and its bowl game, with no mention of
byu, then reading comment after comment from byu fans. BYU is no longer relevant
in college football, so go get ready, byu fans, for your fourth straight
pre-Christmas bowl game that nobody will watch while the Utes prepare for a
second BCS trip in five years. Nobody cares what happened 20, 30, 50 years ago,
we care about today. 48-24 and 12-0 is today.

I love it how all the yewt fans are gripping so hard on this game. All they
want is a respectable showing and they'll be satisfied. Way to set the bar
so high yewt-nation. Forget about coming into the ball game and winning the
dang thing. Just have a respectable showing, don't get blown out like UH
(like the Warriors really set the bar high, you can still get blown out but just
as long as it's not as bad as their blowout and you'll be fine), and
maybe keep it close until the 4th quarter where Bama's superior athletes
and speed will take over. Do all of that and Crymsin nation will forever adore
you!

I bought tickets to the Vegas Bowl this year (sigh) but when I heard that
Hasselhoff was singing the national anthem I realized that I wished I'd
saved the money and sent it to Max Hall for an eye exam.
Utes, you had a great season and I have to admit I'd love the Cougars to be in a BCS bowl this year - and to do it twice in 5 years is a feather in the Utah program's cap. But the 2008 BYU Cougars wouldn't have been able to stand up to the Tide, and I'm not sure the 2008 Utes will be able to do so either.
I'd be happy with a Utah win that sticks it in the face of the "only-BCS-conference-schools-are-worthy-of-national-attention" crowd. Or maybe an even better scenario: Utah loses on the last play of the game on a blown call by the official. BYU shares in the conference money, the "moral victory" gets the MWC some national respect, and Ute fans still go home angry. (Yes, I still harbor some resentment for the time I was hit in the head by a thrown apple in Rice Stadium when I was 7 years old)

The Mountain West will go 0 for 3 in the bowl games. Utah will keep it close
and so will TCU. TCU would match up better with BAMA, but will nevertheless lose
to Boise's superior passing game. ...And BYU will get exposed once again.
