I remember KWhitt didn't care what Glenn said about a sure victory over
Utah. We all now how that ended up. The game tabbed "Guarantee, on-side
kick, fingergate"!
Sure Alabama is much better than Wyoming. However, Whitt is using this to get his team ready. Bama is a good team and Utah has nothing to lose and only 60 minutes to play. Utah is no Hawaii!!!
Can't wait to see Utah prove all those "4-letter" idiots wrong when they give Bama everything they can handle or even beat them in their own backyard.

After several years, Utah finally has been matched up with a good team in a bowl
game. Unfortunately, the Utes will get destroyed. There is no way that the mind
of Whittingham or the lackluster talents of Johnson and co. can keep up with the
Crimson Tide. Utah will get some defensive stops but ultimately will be unable
to points on the board--other than 2-3 Sakoda kicks.

Other than that, the MWC really should be able to win the rest of their games.
4-1 as a conference isn't bad.
Really, TCU should have no problem with BSU since TCU was the best team in the MWC this year and I don't think the WAC can really compete (maybe just BSU) with MWC. Utah and probably BYU would have beat BSU this year as well.

I really wish I thought different, but I did watch Utah all year long. I saw the
weaker wins.
Realistically, Utah is not as good of a team that BYU put on the field in 1984, and Utah in 2004.
I hope they do not embarass the conference, and other non-BCS teams. I think they are in way over their heads.
I am happy it's not BYU, because they are not as good this year as they thought.

You don't know BSU too well, do you? TCU isn't going to have as easy
a go as you think they are. When the dust settles I'll bet BYU is the only
one of the MWC's top three to come out of bowl season with a win. Utah
needs to adopt the mindset of the "moral victory" (staying close)
because beating Alabama just isn't going to happen. Kyle can take any
attitude he wants but everyone else sees it as the denial it is. His Utes will
be successful with a 12-1 respectable showing at the Sugar Bowl. Hawaii the
second is the more likely outcome.

That said, they are not the '04 Utes either and they are matched up against an excellent team.

agree with BCS at 7:30am Be careful what you wish for. In the end you'll
have your conference trophy to console you but you'll be classified the
same as BYU and TCU-a large step below the BCS conferences (minus the PAC-one).

Everyone is very optimistic about the bowl season saying things like the
mountian west if going to go 4 and 1 like it is already a given. All the
success that the MWC has had this year would be erased with a poor bowl showing.
Anything less than going 3 and 2 would not be good for the conference. It is
also a possibility that we could go 1 and 4 as a conference, that would be a
huge set back and erase a lot of the success that the conferences has had this
year. The MWC needs a good bowl showing to solidified the good season that it
had against the pac 9 + 1 and the BCS in general.

The last really good team Utah played was Wisconsin in the '96 Copper Bowl, and they lost big. In fact, that was the only good opponent they've faced in the last 8 bowl games.

BSU has a far higher chance of beating TCU than Utah does of beating Alabama.
You'll find that BSU, in spite of their SOS, is a far better team than you
think. The Poinsettia Bowl should be the best non-BCS bowl game of the season.
It's a reasonably sure bet it will be a closer game than the Sugar Bowl
will be.
My bet is the MWC offensive player of the year will be shaking in his boots up on the big stage in New Orleans.

better than the current installment, but my heck. Will BYU fans stop living in
1984? You played a mediocre, 6-4 Michigan team, the worst bowl team from the Big
10 that year, and barely beat them. Utah's victory in 2004 over Pitt was
MUCH more legit.

Even better, thanks for letting us know exactly who Alabama is. Now don't
you have somewhere to be? Maybe, Vegas? Stop trying to put a damper on our
season just because we ruined yours. There still is one GIANT fact you
haven't brought up: BYU & BCS don't belong together, it's
like oil and water. On the other hand BCS actually has substantial meaning to
Ute fans. Face it cougs, all the envy and statistics you produce won't
make up for the fact that I taught my 1-year old son how to count to 5 from
watching Max Hall interceptions. I hope we can learn 6-10 after the Arizona

becoming Bama fans and talking about how Utah is going to get trashed. No one

Alabama's entire offense is centered around the run game. They are simple but efficient. ESPN was talking about how Utah has been weak against the run this year but, in actuality, Utah was the 11th ranked team against the run. Bama's passing game was centered on 1 guy (the second best receiver caught 20 passes). So, Utah will be able to load the box and stop the run pretty efficiently.
On the flip side, Alabama's defense ranks worse than TCU's in every category. So, Utah has already seen a defense the caliber of Alabama. Utah had some success moving the ball on TCU, so why won't they be able to do the same here.
On the flip side, Bama's offense is 30th in the nation, while Utah's is 15th.

This is not a statement of endorsement or loyalty to either school, it is simply an endorsement of accuracy and good math.

I feel bad for the Utes, because after they peak and get a national ranking, they usually go into hiding.

The Louisiana Superdome has around 70,000 to 75,000 seats.
Utah has sold a little over 10,000 tickets to Ute fans. 75,000/10000 = about 13 percent are Utah fans.
Assuming the remainder of the fans are cheering for Alabama which according to you is a 90% MINIMUM, the Superdome must hold 100,000+.

The Louisiana Superdome has around 70,000 to 75,000 seats.
Utah has sold a little over 10,000 tickets to Ute fans. 75,000/10000 = about 13 percent are Utah fans.
Assuming the remainder of the fans are cheering for Alabama which according to you is a 90% MINIMUM, the Superdome must hold 100,000+.

I love all the comments about how all the BYU fans are happy with the 10-2
season. The funny thing is, almost ALL of the BYU fans I know are NOT happy
with that season.
Exhibit A - All of the BYU fans about 8 weeks ago were talking about a National Championship.....now their happy with Vegas and one of the least know bowl games of the 34? Sure...we all believe you.
Exhibit B - All of the "Quest For Perfection" t-shirts that are now filling up the Deseret Industry stores around town. Rumor is these t-shirts are 50% off at the D.I. How is 10-2 "perfection"?
Exhibit C - BYU fans long for...even covet....the Utah fans who get to watch their team take on a real opponent in a BCS game. Try to minimize the Utah team all you want, but just take a look at the....SCOREBOARD. Utah was 12-0, including a 48-24 beat down in the last game.
Exhibit D - all the 1984 talk is back. Thats the only thing BYU can hang its hat on....24 years ago. How about celebrating this century's sucesses....2004 and 2008!!!

I can not belive how some of you think, BAMA has the best running game in the
nation. Do you think Utah is the first to put 8 or 9 in the box to stop the run
and to make BAMA throw? BAMA makes team put 8 in the box that is what they want,
that opens the play action pass to eather WR (Jones, McCoy and Mazes) or the TE.
Teams has to respect the run so much it opens it up for single coverage, which
leaves a lb to cover the TE. Also BAMA has the best o-lines in the nation. It
took a team from a "pee-wee" conference to figure it out as to how to
stop BAMA's running game. Saban needs to change his game plan. Utah these
is not Weber State you will be facing!!!! You have not seen the speed & size
of this BAMA team.

Yeah good luck to all the teams this year! But cmon ppl a TCU win over BSU
isn't gonna prove that MWC is better than BSU? This is a rebuilding year
with a frosh QB and freshman and sophmore littered all over the field. BSU has
the youngest team in the top 25! BSU has dominated both the WAC and MWC. Thats
like saying since BSU beat Oklahoma they can finally claim they are better than
BIG 12!. Cmon be realistic, you'll have to beat BSU, Fresno, Nevada for
several years before you can say that.
Either way, The bowl games will be fun. Either way, BSU will drop a spot in a BCS bowl for the next 2+ years! If they're this good on a rebuilding year, how good will they be when the players have more than a year or 2 under there belt! BSU is great every year, Utah, TCU, and BYU aren't a perrenially ranked top 15 program like BSU. Enjoy this year cause there won't be many like it in the future. Can't wait for the bowl games!

The MWC might have a tougher go of it this Bowl season than we are used to.
Finally we have gotten reasonable matchups in our bowl games, so a 4-1 result is
not as likely as it has been.
On the flipside the MWC has an opportunity to make a bigger statement than beating 4 bad teams.
Utah's defense will be up to the task of slowing down the Alabama offense, holding them under 30 points. The question will be if our offense can find an answer to the Alabama defense. I think Utah loses 17-24. I hope I am wrong.
TCU and Boise State is an interesting matchup. Any Boise State fan will tell you they belong in the MWC. Here is a chance to prove it against the team that was two missed field goals away from the MWC title. TCU 20 Boise State 17

I notice that all you Utah fans are novices at this whole nationally ranked thing. National Rankings only count at the end of the season. Many teams are #1 during the season, it's the #1 in January that is lofty. (see 1984)
You should be nationally ranked next month, it's after January that the Utes go into hiding.

Oh, and keep the camera ready for a nice shot of the Utah backfield and count which team has more players there, Utah or Bama.

A BYU win over a mid-tier PAC team that lost 5 games by a total of 28 points (including a loss to NM)would show that the MWC is competitive with a BCS conference.
A Utah win in a BCS bowl over a traditional SEC powerhouse would be the icing on the cake.
TCU over BSU should be a sure thing.
BYU over UA should be even up.
UU over UA should be a struggle, but maybe, just maybe.
