Hmmm....sounds like we're ready to send another John McCain to the slaughter with this S T U P I D idea.

Could Prince John really handle such a demotion?

Not a chance it will happen.
Never Happen | 5:17 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
There is no way the Republican Party will nominate a Governor from Utah to be President of the United States....It will never happen.
Sugar Bowl | 5:57 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
I'd rather have the big excutives as president than John Jr.

Please Jon don't run. You're not a very good governor, you'd be a worse president. I'd vote for a democrat over you.
It's Me | 6:25 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
I must agree with "Never Happen". The religous right will never support a person belonging to a religion their pastors railed against.
A mormon has a better chance on the national stage as a democrat.
re:Ema | 6:28 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
bump!
Washington | 6:41 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
No governor from Utah will ever become president unless he/she is a democrat.
frank | 6:57 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
what party banner would he run under? him running for president is like BYU football team playing USC, no way, not in this life.
Flip flop? | 8:02 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
So you say Mitt flip flops--what about your beloved Jon Jr. who ran under the Republican platform for governor so he could win? If that's not selling out, I don't know what is.
brenden | 8:06 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
Actually, I think 2 Republican LDS candidates would be great. Then LDS voters would have to choose one based on their actual policies and proposals, and not just because they are a favorite son.

And I for one love Huntsman's green leaning. Maybe you don't buy into global warming, but better conservation is still a good idea and something worth encouraging and promoting.
I hope | 8:19 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
I hope and pray that we do not have a mormon President. Amen
Roller Mills | 8:19 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
Great, another socialist presidential candidate... just what Amercia needs.
bill fitzgerald | 9:04 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
Great. Two mormons in the running. Now we get to hear once again all the imaginations run wild on what mormons believe from all those who know next to nothing about it.
john huntsman | 10:10 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
is full of promises. What happened to surplus and education? Huntsman has done NOTHING for the state of Utah. The roads to high schools in this valley cannot even be completed, let alone more money for teachers. What happened to that bandwagon? And why doesn't any of us ask WHY? Why do we allow our politicans to get away with everything? Where is all of the money from the liquor stores going now that every bottle is taxed? A store in Sandy, the largest liquor store in the state, makes up to $300,000 a day, and we as tax paying citizens just sit back and let the money dissapate. It would behoove all of us to get an itemized list of where all of that money is going? After all it is your money.
No thank you | 10:34 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
Huntsman has done a poor job representing the average citizens of Utah. Imagine how out of touch he would be on the national level.
respect | 11:25 p.m. Dec. 9, 2008
I lost some respect for Huntsman when he supported a Liberal and religiously devisive (bashed on All Mormons) John McCain over a far more experienced, educated, conservative and articulate Mitt Romney! Maybe because he saw Romney as a future adversary to his future political asperations?

FAT CHANCE.
Let Huntsman mess up the nation? | 3:48 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
He's already messed up our education system for years to come because of his continued budget cuts, you can only imagine what he would do as president.

Start now by saying, "NO HUNTSMAN!"
Is all this just in case | 4:23 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Why all the campaigning already for the next elections? Or is there someone with some insight that Obama may not be a leagal american and lose his election and force another election? As for Romney and Huntsman, they are both treasonist. They have sold their souls to save the illegals and sell out the american people and the soverignty of this country.
CP | 4:32 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Well, I do like the thought of Mitt Romney for Pres. of the USA, but sorry I'm not to sold on Huntsman for Pres. Can't yet see what he's done for the state of Utah.
Timm | 6:37 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Huntsman has the same problem as McCain. He's a RINO. Republican in name only. Romney is the true republican that lives by republican values.
GCF | 7:10 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
National photo-op Huntsman...I'd rather not...too much hypocrisy for me...
Utah rose | 8:33 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
He is a spoiled individual who rammed REAL down our throats after it was dismissed by the the County Mayor who really does have more sense than he has.

I guess he is a favorite among the tree huggers and the global warming nuts!

I certainly hope he is not in the forefront of the Republican Party. He and Romney both need to find a second career. If either of them run the fiasco of the FLDS church will be thrown at them and rightly so, because if Huntsman can't even solve this problem, how by chance can he solve the highest issues of the land?

We already have a president-elect who has no idea of what the world really is--we don't need another to add to the picture.

LJS | 8:49 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Obviously the writers of this article did not see his lame speach at the RNC. I was embarrassed for him. If Huntsman does make it to Washington Chuck Schumer from NY will finally have someone beating him to the TV Camera, so I guess that's a positive.
LBR | 9:00 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
I hope not. I do not like Huntsman. I wish his father would run, though.

From my understanding, Mitt and Jon do not see eye to eye although when did that matter in politics? It would be a losing ticket anyway two Mormons would be a political death sentence. Folks couldn't wrap their brains around one. Remember Jon didn't support Mitt. And what makes you think he'd take a backseat to Romney anyway?

Besides, just because someone is LDS doesn't mean they will be good at a job. I'd pass on JOn HUntsman for any higher political office. Period.
JohnSr. | 9:10 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
How can any serious-thinking person consider Junior as a legitimate presidential candidate? Junior's entire professional life is a product of Senior. He got into Wharton directly because of Senior. His jobs at Huntsman Chemical (god rest it's soul) were manufactured by Senior. His "Ambassadorship" was bought and paid for by Senior. Junior has never actually accomplished anything based on his own merit or hard work. His Gubernatorial campaign was bought and paid for by Senior and Senior's many friends. We should just draft Senior to run for President.
how about | 9:18 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
We get new blood in politics and not draft senior or junior?
moderates no core values? | 9:30 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
I take serious issue with the blogger that claimed moderates have no core values. This moderate Rebpublican (defined by me as one who does not adopt every item of the conservative Republican platform or practices) has the following core values.

A practical, compassionate way of dealing with the immigration problem. Being a good steward over the planet that God created and trying to address the problems of pollution, about which, incidentally, the Book of Mormon prophecies. During years of surplus (plenty), pay off your debts and save for a rainy day, rather than give massive tax cuts to the wealthiest citizens. Following the rule of law, rather than conducting a Pharasee-like hearing to reject a judicial nominee (See Judge Hilder).

more moderate core values | 10:02 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Let me also add funding education for our children, rather than starving public education so that a voucher system will be more appealing. Funding education and addressing the teacher shortage would have been a much wiser use of the years of surplus in Utah than giving a massive tax cut to the extremely wealthy.

JC,

Doesn't spouting bigotry get old?

If you want to comment, add something besides mind-numbing invective or society-diminishing hate.

The purpose of a comments section is to add perspective on the article being discussed, not to spew venom.
Heck no! | 11:11 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Huntsman is a typical politician with good hair but no core values.

He is not a conservative, despite governing Utah. He is little better than a RINO. He is a tool of the education establishment. A pawn of the environmentalists. Eager to be loved by the liberal media. Even eager to enjoy the ego boosting idea of serving in the Obama administration.

My fellow Republicans, we should ahve learned something from the McCain debacle:
TRYING TO WIN BY BEING A "MODERATE" IMITATION OF DEMOCRATS IS A GUARANTEED DEFEAT!

I'm tired of the "lesser of two evils" candidates. I won't vote for Huntsman, or any other squishy moderate Republican in 2012. Let's get a real conservative and WIN!

Rural Utah Gets Shorted | 11:15 a.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Huntsman is worse than SUWA. At least with SUWA what you see is what you get. Huntsman lulled average Utahns into thinking he would protect rural Utah against the anti-civilization environmental movement. Let me tell you Huntsman is in that movement's back pocket, hook, line and sinker. It's a real disgrace, what's happened, and you won't see it in Utah's mainstream media. Huntsman would be more comfortable working for the Obama administration, honestly.
no chance ultra-conservatives | 12:06 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
All of you bloggers that claim Huntsman is abandoning the conservative values of the Republican party represent part of 20% of voters in Utah who don't approve of the job he's doing. When you consider that a good chunk of that percentage comes from Democrats who will never support the job a Republican is doing, there is a very small percentage of ultra-conservatives in this state who agree with you. And considering that Utah is the most conservative state in the nation, an even smaller percentage of ultra-conservatives nationwide would agree with you.

Do you really think you're going to win a presidential election with your ultra-conservative positions? You have about as much support as Ralph Nader on the far left. Moderate Republicans are the only ones that have a chance in a presidential election. Get used to it. John Mccain didn't lose the election because he wasn't conservative enough. He lost it because everything that possibly could have gone wrong during the Bush administration did. Ronald Reagan couldn't have won an election under those circumstances.
Scary Conservatives | 12:31 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
I'm a Utah Mormon conservative. However, some of the extremism that is blogged here in the name of conservatism disturbs me.
re: TELL ME WHAT HE'S DONE | 1:06 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
Huntsman could only be labeled a moderate in Utah...an extremely conservative state.

Oh, and Mr. TELL ME WHAT HE'S DONE, you need to learn a few things before attempting to speak publicly. Moderates don't have core values? Would you be alluding the the "American core values," that have managed to polarize our nation to a point nobody has seen before?

I think you may have been brainwashed (not surprisingly) into thinking that certain morals are more important than others. Because someone has differing views does not mean they LACK values, they just happen to be different than yours.

You should never confuse different values with no values. Even hypothetically if a person had no values, having no values would be their value. One can run in circles with this argument.

But who am I to tell an American what they can and can't call another person. I mean, we do in fact live in the greatest nation on earth where one can choose to write libelous material (anonymously!) about a person instead of actually arguing political differences with LOGICAL ARGUMENT!
Huntsman isn't the answer | 2:11 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
What kind of politician would be daft enough to support John McCain? Jon stay in Utah and be a big fish in a little pond.
Don't any of you commentators | 2:17 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
have anything better to do than waste your employer's time weighing in with your personal opinions on these bogus "news" articles? Get back to work!
Patriot | 3:49 p.m. Dec. 10, 2008
No wonder the left likes Huntsman. He's nothing more than a Republican In Name Only! Don't you get it people? This guy is not a conservative. If you consider yourself a conservative I would highly suggest you investigate who you think you are voting for.
baxter999 | 9:07 a.m. Dec. 11, 2008
Two days after being elected Governor, Nutsman and his staff spoke with AP reporter Brock Vergakis. See "Huntsman prepares to become more aggressive in last term" November 6 Ogden Standard Examiner. Now you might think that Huntsman would aggressively champion Republican values and be aggressive with those who didn't vote for him - mostly liberal democrats. You would be wrong. "Huntsman will be more willing to take on" - sit down - "his own republican party". Huntsman is a liberal - not a moderate - republican. His 3 main agenda items? Socializing medicine, "implementing cap-and-trade for carbon", and making it easier to get drunk quicker in Utah. That's it. Socialism is not only a failure but contrary to LDS church doctrine. There is no evidence that carbon elevation is responsible for global warming and there has been no warming in the last 10 years. So during a depression, Nutsman wants to tax successful, growing industries that provide jobs and give the money to losers whose failing companies produce less CO2. And he wants to add more drunks to our roads. Nutsman isn't just a liberal - he's a socialist loser. Impeach Nutsman now!
Romney -vs.-Huntsman | 3:10 p.m. Dec. 14, 2008
Romney Vs . Huntsman. Well, my vote would be Romney all the way. Huntsman needs to stay out of the race. I would say he is a left Republican kinda like McCain was. If I want the left - I will vote DEMO.
Eyes Rolling Noisily | 3:54 p.m. Dec. 14, 2008
I hope he is chosen as the Republican nominee. It would make things much easier for the democratic candidate to win by a massive landslide. Let's keep Utah politicking in Utah!
Jim | 4:34 p.m. Dec. 14, 2008
Do we forget that the most powerful man in America right now is a MORMON? Senante leader Harry Reid is an active member of the LDS Faith, and has for several years been much more powerful than Bush. How about a choice between Romney, Huntsman and Reid... now that would be a ticket that would interest ME!
