This should be a good, well-contested game. However, I still think that BYU kind of copped out of playing the Ags in Logan, though I don't know the whole story. Here's to a fun game tomorrow night! Go Ags!
True Blue | 1:26 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Just for fun! Winner of this game can claim the true blue of Utah on the other blue teams court in the State.
Prediction:
USU 76 BYU 72
My favorite team of course is any team playing the Y.
Go True Blue Of Utah
Hammer Dunk the Y
Go Aggies
TrueBlue | 6:50 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
BYU by 20. Close in the first half, blow out in the second.

So since the BYU-dunkers are already out in force in this blog trying to sink the Cougs, let's come down to reality.

Cougs win this one going away by 10 for one reason, fan base. BYU fans cheer on Ute and Aggie teams when they are playing anyone else but the Cougs. Utah State fans are either rabid Aggie fans or have split loyalties between USU and BYU. I saw USU fans at the BYU-USU football game cheering on both teams.

Even if the tickets at ESA are split in half, you will see a decidedly more pro-BYU crowd at the game which will make this more of a home game for BYU. Sorry Aggies, again Cougs by 10.
Get It On | 7:51 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
This game should be great. I like the neutral court format and both teams should have a lot fan support. The winner will have true bragging rights for a while.

I am looking forward to seeing the Ag's play as I have heard a lot about them but haven't seen them play since last year.

I hope the threes are falling for Jimmer, Jackson and Jonathan. If they are, the Coug's should have a good chance.

Go Cougs!!! Go Snow!!!
Colo. Aggie | 7:56 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Wow, I'm excited about this game. If they sell out the ESA, that would be awesome. This will be a great way for both teams to gauge where they stand going forward. I'm also grateful this is on BYU-TV. I'll be sitting at home here in Colorado with the fireplace going and enjoy a great college game. Thank you KJZZ and BYU-TV. Go Aggies!!! Let's show them who is the best in the state of Utah.
Spectrum is coming | 7:56 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
ITs coming to the ESA.
geezergary | 8:37 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
The cougs don't really have a power forward. That could be a problem down the road. But they got a bunch of guys that can shoot the lights out. If JT is on, BYU wins by 20.
Anonymous | 8:43 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
It will be fun, but predictions of the winner are foolish. We have no idea how good either team really is so let's just wait for the outcome.

Go Cougars!
Here Kitty Kitty | 8:53 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Go Big Blue! (The Original Big Blue) Here's to Utah State still being undefeated next week.
Keith Suds | 9:04 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
This Will be a great game for Jess! BYU, BYU, BYU! Russ and Rich will be there too. The Boys are Back! What a great basketball game to see in the Capital City. The two best basketball programs in the Behive State battling in the old Delta Center. This could be the biggest college hoop game played in The Deseret Territory this year. Go Cougs! Show the Ags you belong with Stew and the Big Boys from Logan!
re: eugene | 9:05 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
It's obvious that you have NEVER been to a Aggie basketball game. The Aggie basketball fans are far more rabid and into the game than those who go to the football games. So, if it comes down to fan base (which it doesn't) then the Aggies would win going away! And you will see tonight which fan base is better. GO AGGIES!
Contrasting Strengths | 9:18 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
It'll be Utah State's inside game vs BYU's outside game. Hustle plays, turnovers and rebounds, will play a big factor.

Gooooo COUGARS!
Great... | 9:19 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
So BYU is winning the same way the football team did it in the early part of the season. Beating up a bunch of bad teams and thinking they are good.

Same thing will happen..they will play a good team and get smoked.
ole bully bully | 9:23 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
The True Blue will be ready!

Go Cougars!
re:eugene | 10:01 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Now you're just being simply ridiculous. Yes, SOME Aggie fans were rooting for BYU at the holy war, but that is completely different. USU (as you may or may now know) does not have a very good football program. You see, if BYU had won the game (which, they miserably lost and embarrassed themselves in) then Utah would be out of the BCS and Boise State would be in, which would land USU a half a million dollars. At the same time, there were some fans who said it wasn't worth it to cheer for BYU and still cheered for Utah. Besides that, that's football. You have never been to a game in the Spectrum, have you. I have personally been to a game in the Spectrum and a game at the Marriott Center, and I promise you, USU fans are at least 10 times louder and meaner. If BYU wasn't such pansies and would play us at the Spectrum when it's OUR home game, then that is flat out embarrassing to BYU and to the state of Utah. Not only that, but the chose to have the game in SLC, instead of Weber or somewhere closer to USU.
Rexburg Aggie | 10:11 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Go Aggies!
As a former front row student section every week for three years, I know the Aggie fans will be out in force.

The key to this game will be the Aggie guard play. The Aggie big men will do their part, and the Byu shooters will likely get it going, so it may come down to Tyler Newbold and the other Aggie guards.

GO AGGIES!!!!
Dick Harmon | 10:29 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
wishes they could keep the neutral court format because NO ONE can win at the Spectrum...NO ONE! Don't let the thrashing today ruin your testimonies.

GO AGGIES!
Word on the street | 10:40 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I live up here in logan and the hype for this game is ridiculously. Student tickets were sold out in less then 2 days. Kids camped out to get good seats. Texts and emails about wearing blue are getting to be annoying. The word on the street is that some kids didn't even know a single person at BYU who had bought tickets for the game. I don't know but I wouldn't worry about Utah state's fanbase.
Can't believe | 10:43 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Rose agreed to play USU. He has avoided playing in Logan at all costs. So he agreed to play in SL. Some Utah fans would probably want USU. Rose has been so afraid of going to Logan. A little bit chicken here.
Foolish kitty | 10:49 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
You can't run from the Spectrum Dave Rose, we're just going to bring it to you in Salt Lake.
re: Eugene | 11:05 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
dude, you have NEVER been to the Spectrum have you? we aren't a top 5 in the nation crowd for nothing. And we don't have an honor code so we can say whatever we want. When the opposing team switches to the basket on the student section side performance automatically drops a good 10% or more. If it comes down to fans you'll have a blowout on your hands and it won't be the Ag's walking home with their tails between their legs. Unfortunately fans don't win games, so it should be a relatively close game, but don't underestimate the fact that the Spectrum is coming...you can run but you can't hide...the Spectrum is coming...Dave...the...Spectrum...is....coming...for...YOU!!
Sam | 11:08 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
No worries, BYU will not receive their first really tough test until Arizona in a few weeks. USU will just be another win for the cougs. 8-0 going to bed tonight. But it will be fun.
To Eugene | 11:09 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Utah State will have an way more avid fan base. The USU student section sold out in hours with students camping out over night to get front row. A friend of mine at BYU said there was still tickets yesterday. Trust me the Aggie student section will be loud and proud.
the dog | 11:15 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
notice how they ask the byu administration how it ended up at the ESA? How about asking USU admins too?
Because that, | 11:30 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
my friend, would lead to the truth about BYU and David Rose. Yellow: the only true "blue" of YBU.
MN BYUer | 11:33 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Any blog that starts our hating BYU is fun to read. It really translates into the fact that the aggies have no life other than hate. Living in isolated Cache Valley doesn't have much to offer.
Logan Cougar | 11:52 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I'm a Cougar Fan who lives in Logan. Trust me, Aggie fans are bitter about this not playing in the Spectrum thing. Aggie fans hate the Y with a passion, they also don't have a football program so can focus all their energy on Basketball while Cougar fans are still mentally in Football Mode. The Aggies will have a slight home court advantage in terms of fan noise and attendance.

The Aggies are good, but BYU is the better team this year. A few more obnoxious fans won't make the difference in this one. Lee Cummard is just plain too good and will be the difference in this one.

Before I hear any more complaining from Aggies about not playing in Logan, remember that BYU has only lost 10 home games this decade. Eight of those losses were in 2004-2005.

You'd probably better hope this neautral court thing becomes a permanent thing so you don't have to go back to Provo.
@Logan Cougar | 12:05 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
We know BYU has a good home court as well. The DIFFERENCE is that we are NOT afraid of provo and will play anybody anywhere. Dave Rose IS afraid of Logan. We're "too mean" for his liking.
Go Aggies | 12:27 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I believe that the cougar fans do not understand how much excitment there is in Logan for this game. The student section will let byu know they are there.

Bring it on byu!
RR | 12:49 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
NO BYU player cares how much excitement there is in Logan for the game. This team has played and won at Utah with more rapid fans that USU fans will ever be, the last two years, so even fans will be no big deal for the team. This Aggie team is just not as good as years past, and this BYU team looks fantastic on the road. Look for BYU to win this one.
To: RR | 1:26 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Utah basketball fans aren't as rabid as USU basketball fans. I think this will be a close game but I pick USU by 5. In my biased opinion, USU has the coaching and inside game advantage while BYU has the outside and best player (Cummard) advantage. I hope both teams bring their A-game because this could be a really fun game. If one team must get blown out, I hope it is BYU.
Hey BYU | 1:56 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
If you want to learn how to schedule? Check out Gonzaga's schedule.

Oklahoma State
at Maryland
at #12 Tenn
at Indiana
at Washington State
at Arizona
#2 UCONN
at Utah
at #10 Tenn (that might be an error)
#18 Memphis

Seems the big time programs don't mind playing a small college like Gonzaga, now what's BYU's excuse again?
Mike | 2:05 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I live in Texas. Down here we have the true Aggie joke residing in College Station.

But from what I've read here, it sounds like the little sister is residing in Logan.

I guess Aggie jokes abound everywhere!!
Rivalry | 2:10 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
You can tell how important a game is by the number of blog comments on the articles about it. Apparently this game isn't that important for most of Utah.

That's cuz we're focused on other things like winning our BCS game!

Go UTES! Best non BCS team in the nation!
jeff | 3:26 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
This is what I want to see. I want to see all four of the the main teams play in a tournament style or round robin tournament at the ESC every year. That way there is very little home cooking. I have been to several venues and Utah State consistently has more home cooking. The ESC is a great venue. It is very centrally located. I believe it would be greatly supported. I wish Utah, Utah State and Weber all the best in their seasons except that one or two games where they play the "Y". See I don't have to slam, slime or bad mouth anyone.
Jeff
Fans | 3:52 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Where are they? There are over 5,000 tickets available. Is BYU afraid to travel to Salt Lake or are there not enough USU fans to fill the arena?
Re: Fans | 4:34 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
It's the economy. It would have been better to play it in Logan or Provo because the arena would be filled.
RE: Fans | 4:43 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I think that the thing is is that USU fans don't want to drive clear down to SLC and pay 75 bucks for a ticket when they can sit at home and watch it on KJZZ, but the student section is gonna be stuffed to the brim.
Great Job | 7:48 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
I think that counts as a MORAL VICTORY for the Aggies.

Should've and could've beat 'em.

Good job Aggies.
Memo | 7:54 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Aggies...you lost AGAIN!

Utes...How about those Kentucky Wildcats?

"Rivalry | 2:10 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008"

"Go UTES! Best non BCS team in the nation!"

(BYU - USU Basketball story, mind you).

Uh, Uh, Uh, Pick Me!!!

Why doesn't anyone pay attention to us?

We have National Prestige!!!

We have Statewide Prestige!!!

We have at least Prestige in the City of Salt Lake!!!

Will someone please tell the nation, the state, and the city for us?

No one seems to know.

Anonymous | 9:44 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
There you go! I grant you a moral victory. Does that make you feel better? It's like kissing my two year olds hurt finger better.
