From Region 7: | 1:28 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I think both Anthony Heimuli (Mtn. View) and Anthony Miles (Provo) are first team all-staters. Obviously when you take state like Timpview you should get more first teamers and all-state selections overall. But these players are quality players. Colton Raymond and Isaac Allred of Springville were also really good players that are first or second team level players. I think the media reporters need to step up and fill in the gaps when players of high caliber are obviously left off. Sometimes coaches of lesser quality programs don't promote their best players and often times unless a team goes deep into the play-offs good players don't get noticed by the other coahdes.

In the case both Heimuli and Miles were Preps of the Week (each deservedly so) and had incredible stats. Heimuli led Region 7 in rushing and yes had good rushing games against top competition. In the case of Miles, he had over 100 yards receiving against Timpview and had over 250 all-purpose yards against Pine View, a team that made the 4-A semi-finals. Allred and Raymond were also very good players from a team that made the play-offs and barely lost to a good Dixie team.

Josh Gooch was the best player on a very good Syracuse defense. The Titans have good representation on the All-State team, but not even honorable mention for there best defensive player. Who votes on these teams anyways.

Glad to see that Ence kid on the first team. Don't know him but saw him play CW at state. Is he only 180 lb ?
Great Job to all | 2:24 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Congrats to all the players. I think the selections were all very deserving. P.S. for what is worth..I'm sure all of the coaches are fighting for their players.
Timpview just reloads.. | 2:31 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
year in and year out. Only a few junior all-staters in 4A and 5A and Timpview has the only two (Chris Badger and Bronson Kaufusi) for 4A.

Looks like Bingham has some talented underclassmen too. Wish the two teams would play! come on Wong!
Alta players | 2:39 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
congrats to all of you mentioned, and thanks Coach Hamilton for all you do for the high school kids as well as for the youth program. Alta will be strong for many years and watch out for Chipper Lucero and Logan Harrison in 3 or 4 years....those boys can play!
Unless Bingham | 2:41 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
relocates to UT County, that game will never happen. TV will not go outside UT county except for the 4A playoffs. All the 5A powerhouse teams are in SLC or Davis.

it's hard to pick players. it's like 4 best DL, 4 best OL,2 running backs, 2 quaterbacks, 4 LB and so forth. so it's the best player from that position period.
Someone said that Bingham | 2:55 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
reloads. Our JV gave their JV a good game. I hope that means we will be a decent Varsity team next year. Their Varsity killed us. Good measuring stick for Region 3 teams. Hang with Bingham and you can play with anyone.
They usually have a lot of class, but during our game one of their players threw his helmet down and I swear it bounced 8 feet. Not sure why he was mad, but it was funny.

Deven - Academic All State AND 2A MVP - how cool is that?
Thomas Bryson | 3:09 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Had 3.5 sacks in the in the Northridge game by himself. He had a total 18 sacks this year. Deseret get your facts straight.
Titan Fan | 3:14 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Good job to all 1st teamers and good job to T.J. Blickfeldt and Josh Kealamakia for becoming the first Titans to join the all state ranks!
to my team mates | 3:20 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
let it be not forgotten that many of you came through for me to be able to score that td, recover that fumble or make that sack...it wasn't just all me but WE!! you know who you are and what you did...i enjoyed it as the coaches grew as much as we , nobody tried to play Super Man but instead we all supported one another like men on a mission...when we lost, we lost together! But watch out for this comming year as San Juan has what it takes! I'm just a brother from another mother!
Kealamakea | 3:22 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Congrats, I played with you dad at Layton, he couldn't kick at all but was a mean tight end and a good basketball player. DH
Re: Heimuli | 3:27 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
"Anthony Heimula from Mountian View was the best football player in Region 7 and didn't even make honorable mention?? "

You're right, he is second team, even better.
alta fan | 4:09 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
whatever happened to that brantley dunn kid? did he go play in the ivy leagues like all that talk about him?
Jordan Fan | 4:09 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I wanted to congratulate Alex Hart, Vincent Jones, Cory Hunt, Kyle Johnson, Tyler Larsen, and the one who was left out but will be back next year Braden Hammond. Let this motivate you next year. Alex Hart is only a Jr and will crush all the records next year and become Mr. Football. Cory, and Braden are only Jr to, so get ready to have huge a huge next year. Go Diggers!!!

The best lineman at Alta was the starting center who broke his foot in the third game of the season.
YOU GOTTA LUV IT! | 5:34 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
One year the DN gave an ALL STATE AWARD as a SAFETY to a QB who played 4 downs at SAFETY THE ENTIRE YEAR.

Most of the time the DN gets it right, but when they get it wrong they aren't even in the ball park.
Wyoming granpa Brave fan | 6:34 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Congratulations grandson, and to all those who never got mentioned, you help make it for those that did. It takes every young man on the team
who does their job, which in turn gets others nominated to "All State". You help put them there and everyone knows this! Not taking anything away from my grandson, he loves sports, plays it hard, and I know he feels the same as I about this.
So, to those that never got selected, I congratulate you on your hard work and achievement in sports. Good luck to all of you and your future. To the future Braves, play the game well and by all means use good sportsmanship, and if you add a comment in these windows, do it in a respectful manner for all. Good luck in basketball braves.
re: Alta Fan | 6:37 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Dunn is at Harvard and doing quite well, from what I understand.
Ok, Ok , Ok, | 6:45 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I'm good, but nobody know's it! Their either going to pass it or Run it!
bogous | 6:48 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
brady davies and brayden loveless should have been first team.
Dart Fan | 8:33 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Tanner Hinds is a Junior not a Senior.
easy Jordan dad.. | 9:15 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
they aren't going to be crushing anyone next year.. they will be 8-4 w/ a loss in the 2nd round.

no winning mentality at Jordan (unless its outside of Utah :))
Alta | 10:21 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Wow, no 2nd team players from the champs. Who is voting?
alta | 10:31 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
brantly isnt even playing football even though utah offered he declined and is not training to be a doctor. for real lets go through alta and see who should be at least 2nd team. beaver ho ching, parker houseknecht, garret smart, drake echold, brady davies, chase herbert, and moose.
Wow | 9:24 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
You and I all know that it is all about politics. Kevin Haynes was a beast for Cyprus, they had to have their best linement guard him every time, but becuase his team was just okay, he didn't get the props he deserved. He should be 2nd team no doubt. Anyway good job to all the players. Thank You for a wonderful season high school fooball. Kevin Haynes is a beast check him out yall.
the legend | 10:34 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Brady davies you deserve to be up there. you have better stats thats for sure that layton kid might be good but your better i know that for sure
me | 11:10 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
this is all political. the coaches get a ballpark number they can put up there then they negotiate with other coaches to compile votes. they pretty much pick their players that they want up there and sometimes they can't always get the other good ones. congrats to all the athletes that worked so hard this year.
who care! | 2:44 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Football is over WHO CARES! Next year it will be the same complaint with different players.
Football is not life.
The best... | 5:02 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
of luck and congrats to all, and I do hope they keep their priorities straight which is to get an education first if they move on to the college level, pass their classes and graduate with a college degree while playing hard on the football.
Wow | 5:52 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
What about Jake soffe from Bingham...had the best completion %. If he throws as mant times as the other QB's he has way more yards and TD's. But that's how it goes, he should have been 1st team for sure but Bingham cant have there whole team on there.
What the heck!!! | 5:54 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Keith Sasine is the best 5A defensive player in the state. He doesn't get all the pub because he is on the small side. The only reason Remington Peck has all those sacks is because the QB were always running from Sasine. Peck is good. Sasine is Great. Isn't it funny that all the coaches kids seem to make the all state team? Daves kid last year and kens kid this year. Remington is a good player and I hope that he has great success at the next level. Keith Sasine was the loeader of that defense and deserves better!
Hey Keith Sasine fan | 8:20 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Stop already!! Keith is great, but best defensive player in the State???? His fan club or family who whoever keeps posting stuff needs to stop already. The reason he had so many tackles was from the double teams on Rem. Come on. He was thrown around like a rag doll by the Skyline O-line in game 1, when Remmington was not in. I know you are proud of him, but most teams were so worried about the D-line, he was un-checked.
RE: Gunnison | 8:32 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Yes I too was shocked not to see more Gunnison players on the first team football all-state. Gunnison had a tremendous season and blew away all of their competition.......NOT! What a joke. Gunnison stinks in all sports except baseball.
Hey Wow | 10:01 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Soffe is a good player, playing in a system that will never allow a quaterback be a first teamer unless they win a state title. It doesn't matter how much money the program receives, the votes are made by other coaches in the state and he or any other quaterback at BHS will never have the stats. Note to young qbs in South Jordan, if you want to be an allstater by throwing the ball, think about Jordan High. It worked for the Hart kid, he played in the Alta program growing up.
Hey: hey Keith Sasine fan | 10:09 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Keith Sasine didn't become the tackle leader because of luck. he has worked his tail off (unlike the linebacker on the other side of the ball or is he a defensive end). It is a shame that his dad didn't coach - that seams to be the only way to get by at BHS. The double team talk on Rem is funny - I have watched film - he isn't fast enough to catch a cold. Nobody double teamed him. Ask Alta's coaches who ran away from Keith and right at Rem to win the championship game.
No Clue | 10:37 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Well the Soffe kid did almost had as many yards as the other 2 in that system with less attempts. That means he should have been ahead of them. And Bingham has had 4 all-state QB's in the last 10 years and only won it once, so you have no clue on that one either.

1-Paul Petersen
2-Jake Schroeder
3-Stetson Peck
4-Dusty Heap
5-Jake Soffe (Should Have Been #5)
???? | 10:47 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Does anyone else have that many QB 1st teamers in the last 10 years? Im not partial just wondering.
Chris Washington | 11:47 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Maybe if Chris Washington would have signed with BYU he might have received a little love from the BYU lovin D-news, no worries though, you will hear his name enough in the future as a UTE... Chris is BY FAR the best Safety in the state. Funny how he is listed as top 5 in the west but isnt first team in-state??? But then this is also the paper who had Nikki Fernandez (Jr Olympic soccer player) as a 2nd teamer in soccer last year too. HAHAHA....
Hurricane Fan | 1:02 a.m. Dec. 7, 2008
Explain how Hurricane had a running back with more yardage than any in the 3A state and not one offensive lineman made 1st team
DIXIE | 9:38 a.m. Dec. 7, 2008
I hate reading these things that rip on pine view and dixie, did you not watch either team play? dixie had two 2 guys on the 2nd team and you are saying to many? you don't know football stop blogging.
First Team for sure | 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7, 2008
Some of these players on the second team and honorable mention should be first teamers. Binghams Adam Driggs and Jake Soffe, Timpviews Levi Te'o, Altas Brady Davies, Syracuses Jake Anderson
Hurricane Fan | 12:25 p.m. Dec. 7, 2008
Learn how to read. Was Ryan Butler not from Hurricane?
to Chris Washington fan | 9:25 a.m. Dec. 8, 2008
I'm sorry Washington wasn't even the best safety in his region. Anyone who played against Layton will tell you about a safety (#6 Kimbel Jenson) who is one of the hardest hitting players in the state period.
LOL | 5:19 p.m. Dec. 8, 2008
Washington is probably in the top 40 but not the top 20 (and that is 3A)
To ????? | 10:41 p.m. Dec. 8, 2008
Yeah, Logan, Jared Low, Ryan Bohm (twice), Ben Macey, Riley Nelson, Jeff Manning (twice)
Sorry Buddy | 7:41 a.m. Dec. 9, 2008
I Meant in 5A...3A doesnt count. I saw the manning kid play this year and he doesnt hold a candle to soffe...Not Even Close!!! What was his comp. % 50?
