BYU, Weber State basketball: Rahe says BYU loss will be turning point

Nice route. #3 on the road. Cummard looks better than ever!

I was expecting more than 5,672 fans at the purple palace. Weber State fans can't expect to be dominant at home if nobody shows up for big in-state rival like BYU. A half full arena suggests that the Wildcats don't have much fan support.

Utah State had 7,693 fans at their game vs Weber State in The Spectrum. Still not a sell out, but 2,000 more than Weber State had last night.

Wow, it looks like I'm going to be a close follower of BYU hoops this year in addition to football. They've got a long way to go, but I'm impressed w/ what Coach Rose and the boys have done. I admit when I saw Plaisted go early I thought the Cougs would be a lot less competetive than they are. After seeing this I'm definitely going to buy my ticket for the matchup w/ the Ags at ESA. Keep it rollin' BYU! GO COUGS!

When you keep getting your trash kicked in the second half, maybe you should try something else? Why isn't Cottle seeing more minutes? He certainly couldn't do any worse!

Boo Boo visited Yogi and lost by 24 at USU. Last night a 30 point loss at home.

Rahe ran off one of his returning Srs. that would have given them experience. The guy started for two years, helped win the Big Sky and then was let go.

The player is set to graduate this year so it had nothing to do with academics just a poor decision by Rahe.

Rahe's coaching and recruiting is showing itself on the court and in the stands. Wins against Prairie View and Montana Tech.

I guess they could petition to get into Westminster's league as that is the level of play they seem to be at.

Affordable tickets to BYU vs. USU on Saturday may be hard to get. 2 undefeateds. An in-state rivalry. A smaller seating capacity (than the MC).

It's probably sold out & tickets are being resold for more now. It'll be a tough matchup and a great game. I'll definitely be tuned in.

BYU won on the road and the game was never in question. USU was losing at half at home and thrilled when the 3rd quarter ended in their favor; the game was a lot closer than the outcome.

BYU 76 Cal Poly 64, USU 97 Cal Poly 57

BYU played a three game tournament after a road trip to Pepperdine, all in the same week. They didn't blow out Cal Poly but held a comfortable lead throughout the game. USU demolished Cal Poly the next week.

Head to Head: BYU-Uptempo, scores in bunches. Tough defense gets turnovers and break points. USU-Bangs it in the paint, stingy defense, good adjustments.

Prediction: BYU is the better away team.

Rahe's recruiting has been dismal to say the least. I can't believe he would put that kind of product on the court. Did he really have to go get his players form Oklahoma, Cali, and Texas for this? He would have been better off with Bingham's starting five. Bringing in McCoy and Davis ruined this program. They turn the ball over, play lazy defense, and are selfish. Oh, and they jaw at the ref on every call. I guess Cravens wasn't so bad after all. Rahe actually cut his best player before the season started, yet he puts up with Davis' and McCoy's on court antics. I hope he and his assistants took notes from BYU's program last night.

I agree with the comment about Davis and McCoy. They are flashy, nothing more. In fact McCoy makes players around him worse because he doesn't make the extra pass when players are open. He was a big reason JP had a bad year last year. JP never got the ball when he was open, he always got it a second late, having to force his shot. That was because of McCoy's selfishness, yet Rahe never made a move on it. And again, McCoy is running this team. It will be interesting to see who Randy Rahe uses as his scapegoat this year. He blamed Silveira for last year, and cut him, all the while ignoring McCoy's horrendous point guard skills because he was his own recruit. Who's senior year will Rahe take away next year?

Davis and McCoy are Rahe's kind of guys. Guys that may lead to the unemployment line.

Both Davis and McCoy have more turnovers than assists both this year and last. The Cougars had 20 assists and 6 turnovers last night. They play unselfishly. Rahe's boys had 7 assists and 15 turnovers.

Weber as a team has nearly twice as many turnovers as assists this year. Their opponents have more assists than turnovers. Tough to win with selfish unskilled, uncompetive players.

Look, I've been a Weber fan for going on 12 years now and I've heard both sides of the Silviera story from some reputable sources from both sides. I heard JP was too arrogant and wasn't a team player off the court, but I also heard that Rahe singled him out early when he was struggling last year and treated him like crap the rest of the year. But from watching all the home games the last 5 years I can tell you that JP was the most unselfish basketball player "on the court" for Weber. I have no idea why he wasn't put at point guard three years ago. And even worse I have no idea why Rahe chose to dismiss him from the team when he had "this" team coming back? Isn't it part of the coaches job to work out differences with players? I was embarrassed last night. And to think we had a four year senior in JP that could have been on the floor makes me angry, especially when our guard play is terrible.

represented what a college basketball player should be. Not a team player? What are the current darlings? JP was a good player and student athlete. He recently graduated and will return to play professionally.

Then again, I guess he isn't good enough for the mighty Wildcats.

JP was a terrible player last year, and was only ok as a sophomore. "No Show" is right the fans are a big problem, 5500 for an instate game is pathetic, you want someone to blame point the finger at yourself.

Randy Rahe is a great coach and recruiter. Look at the some of kids he has brought in the past two years:
Damian Lillard: top 5 point guard in west, Freshman

Nick Hansen: SE Idaho P.O.Y Junior
Darin Mahoney: Class 3A MVP Utah, Freshman

Trevor Morris: First Team All-State, Idaho, Sophomore

We have a talented team that is very young, they need time to gel together. But more importantly, you need to show up for the games.

I think Randy is a great coach and that the team will do better as they gain experience. They are a really young team, but have great potential. One change that I think needs to be made is Bullinger playing the 3 spot instead of the 4. He is a great player, but is clearly too small to play that position in most situations. With Davis and Bullinger at the 3 and Panos, Morris and Mahoney playing down low, I think we would have a much stronger team on the defensive side of thing, plus nothing would be lost on the offensive end. Maybe that is just me though.

Is this the same player that was selected to the all Big Sky tournament team? Made free throws down the stretch and helped them to the NCAA tournament?

The same player that was second team all Big Sky as a soph? Played on a 20 game winning team?

Let's see. JP starts, Wildcats win 20 and league. JP benched Wildcats are .500. JP gone Wildcats lose. See any trend there?

There is no such thing as SE Idaho Player of the year. Cottle wasn't the Utah Player of the year. Not sure how important the region six MVP is. Should we just recruit the region MVP's? LOL

We realize by your post that you love Coach Rahe but let's keep it real here.

Weber starts 2 srs., 2 jrs. and a redshirt FR. Weber isn't young but they are inexperienced at the d-1 level. Rahe's overreliance on the JC route guarantees that result. His staff is primarily comprised of JC coaches.
