Glenn is hugely popular waaaay the heck outside of UT. He is not just a LDS/ Utah phenom, considering we are such a small percentage of the populace, and he is the 3rd most listened to radio talk show host (in the 18-34 demo, I believe)- that speaks volumes for his popularity among othes groups. "Move on," for all you who can DO little but criticize one of the nicest guys around. Look at the good ALL people can do, not just those who fit your ideology.
Hero of Canton | 9:47 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Glenn Beck gets it. He is genuine, whether you think he goes too far or not far enough, the person that is laughing or screaming on the radio and tv is who he is, he is not fake. Glenn is passionate! America needs passionate people! Wake up America! Whether you agree or not at least care about something!

I consider Mr. Beck to be one of my heros and believe him to be one of the few honest, caring, passionate people left in positions of influence. I applaud his courage to share his story and hope the best for him and his.

Reading all these negative and sometimes nasty comments, makes me realize how lucky I am to be able to live my life in contentment and peace. I used to be an angry person, too. We don't have much money; but we do have a modest home, and an average (slightly disfuctional) family. Thank you for showing me how truely lucky I am.

So... are there any tickets available for Glenn's Salt Lake Show at the E Center?
CA reader | 11:15 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I read the book and loved it. It had a very uplifting message. He shared a very personal part of his life in order to help others. I'm sure the show will be enjoyable and uplifting, as well. No one is forced to read the book or attend the show. If you don't want to read it or go to the show, then just don't do it. It is a matter of choice. I don't fault him for making money off of a book he wrote. I wonder how many of those with negative comments would want to work and not get paid for their efforts. I,for one, felt the cost of the book was money well spent.

I admire any person who has overcome mistakes and bad choices like he has! Way to go Glenn! You have inpired tens of thousands of people by your example or persistance, self discipline and faith! We need more positive role models. I have never understood why some people resent seeing people like you succeed! Guilt perhaps?

I just love how people only talk of Christ being loving and accepting. Kinda reminds me of those who read the Constitution and only pay attention to the parts prior to comma's and semicolon's. They read the Bible the same way. Only the half that makes them feel good.

Yes Christ was accepting, but he also wasn't above criticizing those who didn't believe as he did. He did show love and compassion for the sinner, mainly for the penitent, but was very purposeful in his condemnation of those who purposefully lived in sin.

While his message was about hope, love, and compassion; the acceptance he taught involved changing ones life and obeying his commandments. He told the woman taken in the very act of adultery to go and sin no more. He didn't give a free pass to continue the same sinful behavior.

So yes it is about love and acceptance, but only in hopes that people will work to remove sin from their lives. Accepting does not equal continuing!!
Who is | 6:28 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Glenn Beck? A talking head that left CNN for Fox News? Nice career move, like leaving Newsday for the Post.

Liberals are all the same. They never answer questions, then never listen to answers, and they can never say anything good about something good. Glen Beck is a fine man who has found success in life both financially and personally. I rejoice in his success and the true joy he finds in sharing with others. Thanks Glen. Liberals, put down the Kool Aid cup, take a deep breath, and try be mature adults who give credit where credit is due. Tilting everything toward clever Liberal cheap shots does not show how smart they...only how weak is their thought process. Liberals can't stand facts and ideas...their only retort is to resort to personal attacks.

Exactly WHAT sounds so "truly horrible" to you about this???

I see your being your usual positive, totally non-divisive self as usual.
Lionheart | 9:30 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Glen Beck is a high-strung, high energ, restless person with a tragic background, (a little boy losing his mother, for heaven sakes) he has put his his amazing energy and passion into a positive transformation and shares with great humbleness. I haven't read his book yet, thought it might be too heartrending for me, but I will and am sure I will like the hopeful message when he directs his great soul with immense passion to follow the path God gives him.

I have made Thee polestar of my life
Though my sea is dark and my stars are gone
Still, I see the path, through Thy mercy.

The first time I saw Glenn Beck was a "non-accidental" Christmas experience. I flipped on the TV in my rented room near midnight, after being "stood up" by my daughter because of her addictions. GB's sincere and enthusiastic interview of R.P. Evans (the Christmas Box, etc.) helped restore me to the message and hope of Christmas. The second time was on America's b'day. I was in another rented room, this time with my addicted daughter after another crises. Distracted, I flipped on the TV and there was GB, giving a sincere and moving tribute to America from Provo, UT. His pure and sincere spirit and open enthusiasm, despite his worldly fame and success, confirmed my belief in humanity once again. "If he continues to act on the light given him," I thought, "he will one day be LDS." The rest is evident---he already was, led by the light of Christ, beginning with the inspired 12 Step Program. Power to the 12 Steps, to the Savior and his Atonement, to his Gospel, and to all who's hearts hear the message and tune in. To the rest, Merry Christmas, and may we all give attention to the "non-accidents"in our lives.

It amazes me that the most patriotic people of our land are also the most anti-government. I apologize if my above comments were offensive; Glenn is free to speak and do as he pleases. His way is just not my style. I have never ever thought one thing out of his mouth is funny. I guess we all just have a different sense of humor. I am sorry, I can not get it out of my mind how Glenn got started, someone tell me if I am wrong, but he got started by slamming the Clinton and Gore and Kerry administrations and campaigns. He thinks Gore claiming to invent the internet is somehow worse than his own multi marriage- alcoholic life. He got started by criticizing others and turning it into humor and now wants to remain above the fray and be the good holiday guy. Congratulations on a good book!! Our current president stopped drinking in 1986 at age 40, Glenn was probably the same age when he stopped. We all have weaknesses. If you enter political theater though there has to be, sadly, criticism, that is how he made $$$--he has to take what he dishes out.
whitie | 11:27 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Selectively compassionate? what kind of silly label is that. i don't think imperfect humans are capable of equal compassion at any stage. I think each individual deserves to have the level of compassion that they deserve to be determined "selectively" i have selected the level of compassion i feel for Osama Bin Laden, for Charles Mansen, OJ, Mother Teresa, for congressmen/women who are a waste of space, and for the little old lady who lives down the road. some deserve more compassion than others based upon their actions!! What a concept...equal distribution of compassion next thing you know they'll be trying to have equal distribution of wealth...oh wait!....hmmm
Connecticut Friend | 11:48 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I know Glenn well. He is as honest and sincere as the day is long. I laugh to myself reading the hypocritical comments made about him by people who are so extremely naive (e.g. Utah bankruptcy rate?) and not exposed to the world outside of the beautiful Wasatch Front.
John | 1:58 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Glenn Beck may have triumphed over many of life's adversities, but I can only judge him by his acts. The radio version of his show has lately become more and more risque. His standards of conduct on the radio are clearly not the LDS standards I grew up with and teach. I can only conclude that he has chosen to follow the ways of the world in order to be successful in the eyes of the world. I feel sorry for the youth of the church who may be charmed by his behavior.
Talented | 3:16 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I have many talents and one of those talents is to know greatness and to be able to judge things that I know nothing about. I think we should bow to the great and mighty JOHN who is the standard and model of mormonism and how it should be taught and lived. Glenn, you owe all of us in the church, and especially poor righteous Johny, oh ya, and all the effected youth who sit around and listen to talk-radio (I could hardly type that last line I was laughing so hard...but now I'm back...eh hem....) a HUGE apology. Uh oh...what's happening to me...I am getting dizzy and risque....I think I'm being charmed by Glenn's behavior. I better go...
John | 3:29 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
To Talented: Somehow your response to my posting is exactly the point, isn't it? Well done, in proving my point.
In the "KNOW" | 3:42 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Glenn didn't even write the book...it was ghost written by Jason Wright. I know because Wright's publicist told me. It's all about the money with these guys...
Sour grapes for sure | 4:21 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
So much criticism and negativity makes me just laugh. So maybe we better ban every feel good story, movie, book, or CD cause it's nothing more than a Mormon conspiracy. Yup, just give us more murder, mayhem, and blow all their heads off. Great entertainment for all the family to see.
Talented | 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I couldn't help it JOHN. I was charmed before I could even stop... I guess I'm not as talented as I thought. I'm going to go listen to... let's see here....hmmm?, I can't think of anyone else to listen to and judge...hold on, I have to go eat some waffles....Ok, I'm back. I think I'm going to pick...rrrrrrrr, I can't think of anyone...everyone be quiet! Ok, ok, I think I got someone... Niel Cavuto! Now that guy is no poster child for whatever church he belongs to. Sheesh. Wait, I think I am going ditch Niel and go with Ann Coulter. Now ther ya go! High heels, the whole bit. Join me John in criticizing someone we don't know anything about...but hurry, I'm going to go eat more waffles. These are delicious!
RE: John | 5:25 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
You have proved nothing.

but spewed a hate filled and lie filled opinion.

I listen Glenn's show on regular basis, and none of which you say is true, none of it.

Now that's first hand proof.

RE: Idahoe Jake | 5:31 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
What a silly thoughtless comment.

It's not the writing, it's the typing.

Did you ever stop to think that some may not be a very good typist.

OR perhaps they have a medical condition that makes it very difficult to type but they do the best they can.

Or perhaps, english is not their first language.

Stop. Think.

Understanding is more important than spelling.
Bert | 4:21 a.m. Dec. 6, 2008
Sure he will not be understood by all - who is? It is just so disappointing how so many are quick to find fault - why not look for the good?
Glenn Beck, like all of us is on a journey - each of us has our own set of weaknesses - try looking beyond those and perhaps a message that is encouraging and uplifting might be found - in 'The Christmas Sweater', and also in the lives / stories of others who are human and at times make mistakes.
Val Seegmiller | 3:01 p.m. Dec. 6, 2008
To John: You're judging Glenn's motives. How are you privy to that information? I agree that he has his flaws, but he also has a lot of good.

To others: It sounds like there's a lot of nonjudgmental, loving Liberals who disguise their dislike of Glenn's ideology and/or jealousy of his success as something else.
Colbert Fan | 3:52 p.m. Dec. 7, 2008
You couldn't pay me to attend this. But I would pay big bucks to see Stephen Colbert satirize it. I think Colbert act is hilarious because he is attacking the Limbaugh, O'Reily, Beck, etc. types. That isn't too say Colbert is attacking their ideology, just their inflated sense of self importance and their logical fallicies. Though I am not a conservative ideologically, there is something to works of Rand and others that I can appreciate and understand. Beck is just another ranting, ego maniac making a buck off right-leaning casual political observers.
John | 6:32 a.m. Dec. 8, 2008
Well, it's a shame that Glenn Beck's political demagoguery evinces no intellectual depth, but then that's the nature of demagoguery, isn't it? Even sadder is the emotional satisfaction that listeners derive from Beck's ranting and then their confusion of this emotional satisfaction for truth. Thinking and learning is hard work, but you won't find much of that on entertainment programs that attempt to pass off their demagoguery as somehow insightful.

Amen, John.
Enough already | 7:52 p.m. Dec. 19, 2008
Those of you that believe Glenn Beck is a hate monger apparently listen to about 30% of what he says. If you don't like him or agree with him, fine. Listen to Randi Rhoades and add to the hundreds of people in her audience. It is unfair to characterize him and only be able to referrence a few sentences, cut and pasted together, in blogs. I am amazed when I listen to his show, then read comments in a blog a few days later completely twisting his meaning.
