Olbermann | 11:50 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
As a fairly independant view on most political concerns, I must say that I have viewed "countdown" many times in the past 60 days. I can't say this any stronger, Keith Olbermann is hateful, negative and completley disrepectful of most things that are honest and proper.

His show is entirely based on hate. It is common and appropriate to to disagree on important issues concerning or country and our overall welfare, but Keith is blinded by hate.

John McCann has done more for this country than any person I can think of, however, Keith treated him like a terrorist, which was unethical, dishonest and wrong.

I agree with an Anonymos comment posted above.Utahns did re-elect this man are you kidding me? Even though I am from Utah I do not support Chris Buttars and he needs to be suspended from the Utah State Senate. He is nothing but a joke towards Amercian Politics and gives us fellow republicans a bad name.

re: Oberman a joke | 7:49 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008

Keith & Dan made ESPN what it is today. I can understand why alot of Utahns don't like KO; he's a liberal w/ a really dry sense of humor.

Countdown is no more news than Hannity, O'Reilly, or Limbaugh, etc... Most channels on Cable that are news are actually ANALYSIS & COMMENTARY.

As far as Buttars' resolution, The US even Utah is getting more diverse and there are people who have different beliefs EVEN IN UTAH.

Bottom line; just use common sense in wishing others well regardless of what time of year it is.

This is so stupid | 11:59 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Buttars, for even making this an issue. If you require someone to pronounce something, it becomes meaningless, a rote phrase, a waste of oxygen. Stop this and let people celebrate Chirstmas or not celebrate it as they wish.

Olberman, the poster-child of vitriolic hatred against anything he doesn't agree with. Life according to Olberman is truly moral relativism and reactionism. It's his opinion, and how he gets paid that kind of money to spout his venom is beyond me.

Maybe a dope-slap for both of them will fix it, but probably not.
lost in DC | 12:01 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
How can I get Olberman to call me the worst person in the world? Coming from him, that would be a great compliment.

Who expects honesty from the View?

My understanding was Oblerman got removed from covering political conventions, not his desk job.

>>John McCann has done more for this country than any person I can think of, however, Keith treated him like a terrorist, which was unethical, dishonest and wrong.<<

Like the Keating 5, ponying up to the Rulers in Qatar who facilitate terrorism financially, making Phil Gramm His economic advisor, etc..

PG is in part the "brains" behind what cause the current financial turmoil.

As KO rightly pointed out, did you mention how many times & how often J Mac while campaigning, "We gotta fight for..."

Sorry folks - When you look at the candidates and judge who is the best for the job, you should go with the better of the two. If you have an issue with the top two, then you need to get involved sooner. For everyone else that would like to vote for us, you'll have to move to West Jordan first. (I know, you'd rather not, and that's okay)

Consider the source. Olberbutthead is the biggest Jerk in the World. There is no worse TV commentator, bar none and that includes another MSNBC fool, Chris "Obama sends chills up my leg" Matthews. Both are nasty, lying, hypocritical liberals of the worst sort. MSNBC has NO credibility, they are getting killed by Fox and all the conservative commentators. So the Demo Congress (Idiot Pelosi) would like to pass a law forcing the popular conservative shows to add "fairness" in the form of "equal treatment." In other words, Pelosi wants to rule the country and take away the free speech rights of Americans. I'm no Buttars fan but even he isn't as big a jerk as Olberdud.
Anti-PC Infidel | 12:26 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Does anyone even watch that hack Olbermann anymore? He's like a parody of any number of loony liberals (which are rather cartoonish anyway).

As for B.W., if she can't speak correctly, she shouldn't be doing interviews on TV.

The View takes chicken coop gossip to a new low.
Stupid intollerant | 12:26 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I know nothing about Mr. Buttars but there is nothing wrong with a non-binding resolution asking retailers to allow the use of "Merry Christmas". Its not enforceable law, just an expression. But, the inane reaction from idiots like Olbermann is to be expected. I am no Mormon, but the real bigotry we see today is not towards homosexuals or racial minorities, it towards anyone of faith who does not support every aspect of leftist social doctrine and some of the posts dripping hate here are disgusting.

As far as I'm concerned, all those that are offended by this resolution need to get a grip.

Sen Buttars is an amazing individual, I dont live in West Jordan but I would have voted for him again in a heart beat. I love a guy that says what he believes and sticks with it. The names he has been called over the years for nothing, he should be proud. GREAT JOB!

I am not sure how I got outside the lines on this one but I do not watch, Obermann, The View or wawa.

I agree with Buttars but not with his approach.

Anonymous | 12:51 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I don't understand people who say that not saying "Merry Christmas" is somehow changing the meaning of the holiday. If a store doesn't want their employees to say it, they are just being curteous and respectful of those who may not be Christian. Nobody is trying to take Christmas away from anyone.

If you somehow think that the clerk at Target not saying "Merry Christmas" somehow undermines the holiday and what it stands for, maybe you need to look inward and investigate why your attitude about Christmas is so shaky. If Christ and Christmas are a big part of your life and this season, as they are mine, it shouldn't matter what the clerk says. What matters are your feelings. If a store clerk saying "Happy Holidays" somehow takes that away from you, maybe your beliefs aren't as strong as you think.

Plus, as pointed out by other level headed posters on this board, "Happy Holidays" includes holidays for all faiths, Christmas included. Not to mention Thanksgiving and New Year's (and my wife's and my own birthdays), so what's not to like?
Bender Rodriguez | 12:53 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Anyone who can come up with the phrases; "(insert name) is drooling the drool of regret into the pillow of remorse", "(althletes name) is listed as day to day. We are all just day to day." or incorporate Monty Python references into sports highlights is more than okay.

Wait. That would be Olbermann. What exactly has O'reilly done for pop culture other than make loofahs famous?
Boyd | 1:07 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Hmm... a few things:

Christmas is not really a Christian holiday. Christmas was a Pagan tradition (celebrating the winter solstice), co-opted by the Christian faith in order to try to convince Pagans to convert to Christianity. Don't believe me? Google it.

Stores CAN prohibit their employees from saying "Merry Christmas" because stores are not government, and are not subject to First Amendment guidelines. It's similar to why I can't use profanity at my job--my employer would not approve.

Keith Olbermann is similar to Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, and he became quite well-known for being one of the first media commentators to criticize President Bush (well before others began doing likewise). I find Olbermann to be a funny satirical opinionist, but no more a newsman than Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart (or Hannity and O'Reilly).

As for The View ... well, I don't watch it. Don't care. Mormon underwear as fodder for comedy? It could be funny, but how it was used on The View doesn't sound very funny (and as a non-religious person--it just wasn't funny period).

Good decent Christians being attacked by the liberal immoral far left media? WHAT?! I am shocked! Who would have thought?! Olbermann? But I thought olbermann was an un-biassed fair journalist? Ha Ha Ha

I APPLAUD BUTTARS, and most decent people are disgusted by Olbermann and the bringing in to open shame strong values, morality, decency and good-ness.

I am also sick and tired of having Christmas held captive.

I lived in the middle east for 12 years, and NEVER ONCE was offended when someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah. And WOULD NEVER DREAM OF TRYING TO LEGISLATE THEM TO STOP wishing me well on THEIR HOLIDAY. If someone is offended by Marry Christmas, its time for them to book a voyage with the Immigration Exportation office.

Wait!!! with all the child molesters, murderers, terrorists and other sick creeps out there they choose to name this man as the worst person in the world? I guess that does not say much for them. If I was Buttars I would take this as a compliment.
Really?!?!? | 2:20 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Buttars - Utah's crazy uncle. West Jordan, I hope you are proud of yourselves. Not only is Utah being cast in a negative light because of the whole prop 8 debacle, but now we have Buttars and his crazy Christmas crusade to help prove that we are the weird state.
You're joking, right?! | 2:24 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
A couple things...

First off, yes, Keith Olberman is not the brightest mind out there, but it's nice to know that we aren't suffering in silence with Senator Buttars.

Secondly, members of the LDS church are no longer persecuted minorities. Get off your high horse. If anything the LDS population makes the rest of us (in Utah) live under their restrictive ideals. Believe it or not, some of us like to drink beer and not go to church on Sundays. It does not make us bad people, just different. As long as members of this faith act like they are better than the rest of us, Utah will continue to be a subject of national ridicule.

Buttars is a moron | 3:07 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
There is nothing offensive about "happy holidays"-- in fact it is more INCLUSIVE of others than "merry Christmas". Why should a retailer have to focus their advertising only towards their Christian customers? that doesn't make good business sense...

This country was founded on the precept of freedom of religion, so to waste tax payers money to mandate everyone to follow Christian beliefs is ridiculous.
lost in DC | 3:12 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I know of people who were snapped at because they dared to say Merry Christmas. The recipients of the well wishes were offended that the well-wisher would assume they were Christian. Sad that they carry such huge chips on their shoulders. Please, wish me a happy Hannakuh or blessed Kwanzaa (I hope those are the proper terms). I would love to have people wish me well.

Many have called Buttars a bigot and an embarrassment and asked how he could get re-elected. I would ask how the left-wing bigoted embarrassment named Rocky Andersen kept getting elected in SLC?

1. Keith Obermann 1. Chris Buttars

They are both intolerant extremist bigots from different sides of the aile.

This nut job really needs to go. "The pride of West Jordan" apparently has such little objectivity on any thing. The fact that he is up on the hill making laws for the rest of us, has got to be the most terrifying thing this season, its like the NIGHTMARE Before Christmas in Utah..

RE: Bender Rodriguez | 5:12 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Actaully Olbermanns show is less news and just opinion of a bitter hate-filled intolerant blowhard liberal,

or should I say a typical liberal.

Atleast RUSH limbaugh, O'reily, Hannity and other consertives put hours research in preparation for their programs. And have real knowledge of what they talk about an put forth an informed opinion, whether you agree or not.

Too bad liberals can't say the same despite their claim for love of education.
Worst man for what? | 5:46 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I watched the clip with Keith Olbermann at KSL.com and he doesn't make any sense. Sure Buttars seems to be always putting his foot in his mouth, but Olbermann is not building a good case either.

That Butters could be re-elected by in this state just sickens me. He is a constant embarrassment. The man is a pig with conservative values lipstick. Those of you in the southwest valley that voted for him REALLY could not come up with anything better? Very sad. You need to think about what it says about your community to vote someone like this into office.
MSNBC | 6:32 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
If MSNBC said I was a "bad" person, I would take it as a compliment coming from the likes of these people! A perfect reverse barometer about someone's real value. Look at who they think are "good" persons (Barney Frank, Hillary, Obama, ETC)! See what I mean?
RE: Bender Rodriquez | 6:36 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Hannity and Limbaugh put in hours of research?? Give me a break. They read the news and then spew outrage rants.

O'reily, yes, there is some real research and journalism there - sometimes. The other two are just peddle conventional opinions to those they already know are sold and who lack the intellectual capacity or moral courage to seriously challenge the status-quo of the right. It's why O'reily creams them in the ratings - he has an audience that includes the diversity of america, not just right wing ideologues.
Ing | 6:52 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I dunno about the worst person in the world...that's obviously an overstatement when the world still has people like Osama bin Laden in it...but Buttars deserves public excoriation. Guys like that are a menace to free-thinking people everywhere.

Buttars' proposed resolution is sticking his buttars in where it shouldn't be. The decision whether to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or nothing is as personal as the decision to take offense when someone else says Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or nothing. It's none of the legislature's business.

Personally, I think Merry Christmas does just fine in almost any occasion. Maybe not if you're at a service in a synagogue or mosque, but otherwise, no big deal either way. Christmas is a national holiday, and even if the religious origin and overtones aren't applicable to everyone, the general ideas carried in it are as universal as the Golden Rule. Peace, goodwill, generosity, and family.

If you can't get past someone's holiday greeting to get on board with those things and let other people be for a few weeks out of the year, there's something wrong with you.

What is disturbing here, is that antagonists are testing the waters by sticking their toes in. Oh, I said this disgusting thing about Mormons and nothing happened... a callous joke went out and nothing happened...let's ban nativity scenes...no Christmas celebrations in school...can't mention God...Ridicule Mormons...big joke...no one comes to our defense. If this happened to any other religion or group, the you know what would hit the fan. It is an age old battle that rages on in the hearts of men. I am afraid it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Please go away!

It's obvious that Chris Buttars is a politician and has been in office far too long. His comments reflect his own pet peeves. The State Legislature is not the place to vent your pet peeves, it's a place to conduct the business of the State, which should be to protect our life, freedom and property and nothing else.

With all the real problems facing Utah and the world only a politician would worry about a peaceful exchange of free people.

Hey Chris, worry about the legislation you help pass that makes Utahns less free. Remember, every time you take money from us that funds actions that are not legitimate functions of government (protecting our life, freedom and property) you make us less free. Every time you pass legislation that restricts the free use of our property you make us less free.

How about making Utah a beacon for freedom and liberty.

"Worst Person in the World" is definitely hyperbole, but that's sort of the point. He has one every show, from what I understand. It sounds more like X96's "Boner of the Day", where some stupid person is awarded with being the stupid person of the day.

I'm pretty sure Olbermann doesn't actually believe that Buttars is the worst person in the world, but it can be funny to overexaggerate.

Your OPINION carries no weight in the matter.

The Facts are COnservative hosts like LImbaugh and Hanninty, read dozens of newpapers and magazines, daily, talk many people daily, read mnay books,

THOSE are the facts,

YOur opinions and feelings about them mean absolutely nothing.

They do their research, they cutout dozens of articles which they may or may not use on their show.

not to mention perusing web site. like obama's or drudges.

Not to mention having doing research on fly during show and off the air.

Waht sode olberman do.

or anyy of the liberal women on the view, I don't then behar can even read or has had any education beyond high school.

which is why their shows never last.

that and no one wants hear that stuff.

My take;

1. Keith Olberman is a joke. He had (a little) success as a sportscaster (I never liked him) and now he thinks he's qualified to spout off on every topic

2. MSNBC is the most liberal and least credible of all of the news agencies

3. Buttars' point was misrepresented and exaggerated to the hlit.

4. I know it was somewhat tongue in cheek, but just in case MSNBC missed it, here are a few real nominations for worst person in the world - the demons who killed innocent people in India, Osama bin Laden, the mob that stomped a Wal-Mart employee to death, Al Franken, all the greedy heroes on "Flip this House" who got us into this housing mess, fat cats on Wall Street, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for taking bribes from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to look the other way as our banking system collapsed.

5. The View is a total waste of time that plays when nearly all employed people are at work busting our butts so slobs on welfare can get fired up by intellectual heavyweights like Joy Behar and Rosie O'Donnell.

I think Scott is right. Sometimes people shoot at you for no reason. I'm from West Jordan and people ask me all the time how "we" could keep voting for Chris Buttars. First of all I didn't. Second of all Buttars district has been Gerrymandered to include a lot of conservative precincts all the way over there in Sandy. How about blaming THEM for a change?

Happy Holidays everyone. :-)
