RE **USU Strategy | 11:40 a.m. Dec. 3, 2008**

I think you're confused. USU is a D1-A team and has been for over 100 years. Weber is not a D1-A team.

Football makes money, in spite of what you think.

Have you been to any of the games to know how many people are attending?

Regarding the cold, buy yourself a coat and a beanie and get over it. It gets maybe 10 degrees colder here, depending on where in the valley you are.

USU has suffered over the past 20 years or so, because they have not been willing to invest money in the program. Up until the 70s, almost all coaches at USU had a winning record. Snyder, who was here in the late 70s, early 80s was one game below 500. Since the early 80s, the school has failed to keep up the facilities, budgets, and salaries to remain competitive, and everyone since then has had a losing record. They are now seriously investing in the program. If you haven't seen the new athletic complex, don't say another word about Aggie football before you call up the athletic department and take a tour of it. The new head coach will be making half a million a year. Albrecht is doing what needs to be done to support the program, which still makes money in spite of its record.

It wasn't that many years ago, 5-6 maybe, that every football team in the state of Utah had a losing record, yet look how quickly things have turned around. It doesn't take more than just a couple years with a great head coach and a budget to make a huge difference.

Anderson is not the answer and Chico isn't either. I don't know who is, but there's got to be someone better that just these two guys. Come on . . . look around. How about the coach at Snow College? At least he wins games and seems to be able to recruit. How about Freddy Frenadeze? How about the coach at Montana. How come Mantana wins with every coach they hire and yet, when they come to Logan they loss? How about Coach McBride . . . look what he's done for Weber State. Maybe he doesn't want the job . . . who can blame him? Hire a recruiter if nothing else. Good players always win . . . even with bad coaches.

I'm not saying it's going to happen overnight, but get coach A up there in logan and get some of his insane defensive schemes rolling. Then find a decent offensive plan (ie. spread) and get some good in-state recruits (don't let that Manning get away) and by 2013 there could be a turnaround... hopefully.

OK, USU may never win as consistently as Utah or BYU, but the occasional rare upset is not impossible (on a down year for them and an up year for USU) and even a 6-5 bowl season on occasion. I am not an aggie fan (go Cougars), but I have seen worse programs brought up from long losing traditions. Anyone here remember Utah's horrible 70's and 80's tradition of losing/coach firings before McBride turned it into a winning program? Remember what Urban Meyer did in just 1 year that was thought impossible up till that point.

USU had no conference affiliation a couple years ago, so it has taken a while to get them back on track with recruiting etc. especially after getting new facilities. They are Now headed in the right direction and just need a good coach to make them at least respectable and compete for an upper division finish in the WAC. Good Luck!
