If the Yewts play Florida, their "fans" will not know who to root for- Urban or Yewtah! He left your mickey mouse program, and you still root for Urban more than you root for the Yewts! Yewtah can't fill their stadium until BYU comes to town, & it's the only game the Yewts care about. Did you see how Yewt fan celebrated when they actually beat BYU? It's all they care about. They're obsessed with BYU because they want to be us & know they'll never be good enough. They'll always be our inferior red headed step child.
Washington?? | 12:53 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Whittingham gets paid plenty of money, why would he want to go to a crappy Washington team? He may make more money initially, but after he gets fired in 3 years because that team is too terrible to turn around, he will end up loosing a life time of good money at Utah. Don't fix it if it aint broken. Stay at Utah and create yourself a nice legacy.

Utah?? | 3:32 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
I really hope Utah draws a better opponent than Pitt so we can all see how badly they would lose vs. quality competition. You people think because you beat a 'name' school once in a while or someone in a BCS conference that you are world beaters.

If Utah and BYU had to play EVERY week in a conference like the PAC 10 or BIG 12, the best they would finish is third or fourth. Utah has NEVER beaten a school that has finished in the top 10 at the end of the season.

I challenge you to name one school Utah has beaten that has finished in the top 2 of their BCS conference.

The late date of their bowl game may allow Utah to keep Whittingham if Washington decides to make their coaching decision before early January.

The fact that Kyle is willing to listen to offers could either be a ploy for a raise at Utah, or a sign that Kyle is ready to move for the right price.

"[Utes are] obsessed with BYU because they want to be us & know they'll never be good enough."

...said the tdS fan who was first to comment on a Ute article. You're here since nationally, one of our programs is RECOGNIZED and HEADING TO PHOENIX or NEW ORLEANS, while the OTHER program is irrelevant and nobody really cares where they're going.

You REALLY have to hand it to tdS fans. Poor sports to the end. I LOVE how they can't spell either Utah or Utes, but rather go for the phonetic approach and think they're clever. Let me ask you all something...How many letters are in Utah? How many letters are in Yewtah? Which is the most efficient spelling? How many of you actually LIVE in Utah/Yewtah? How many letters are in Ute? How many letters are in Yewt? How does insulting a Native American tribe really effect fans from THE University of Utah? How do you insult Native Americans and call US classless?
re:Laverl | 7:22 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
2 BCS appearances to 0. Utes don't need to envy anybody. Sounds like a BYU fan needs to come to terms with their own insecurities.

P.S. The Yewts thing is stale to even BYU fans, just like the Zoobs is to Utah fans.

From Vegas Ute:

Easy to answer if I understand your request:

"I challenge you to name one school Utah has beaten that has finished in the top 2 of their BCS conference."

West Virginia, USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona State, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Louisville.

I think a couple of those have finished in the top 10 as well.

Just like Utah, some years their up, some years.
their down.

Mediocre GA Tech of the crappy ACC, beats mighty GA of the SEC at home. GA finished 1 game back of FL in the SEC East.

Your comments about BYU and Utah are like painting a portrait with a white washing brush. You cover a lot of area without any detail.

Utah's program has been consistantly improving, while some old "Big" names are dwindling, i.e. Notre Dame, Nebraska, Washington. These teams have all won multiple NCAA football championships, and then fallen on hard times.

Don't try to paint Utah, BYU, and TCU with that big brush. The proof is in the details. One of those details is the strength and character of a team at the end of the season, not what was at the beginning.

Utah by 5.

Listen clown, Utah just beat Oregon State who just finished 2nd in the Pac 10 THIS YEAR, a 2nd place team from a BCS conference - so there's your answer. That was easy. We didn't need help from the officials to barely beat a Pac 10 team (0-10 Washington) who happens to be the worst and only team in D1 football without a win. Just get over the fact that the Utes are 5-2 against your kitties the past 7 years, and those 2 losses were only because you were living right and magic happened those two years, but the other 5 years we were more righteous. Keep whining.
Dear Utes | 8:23 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Since my Longhorns have been robbed by OU and the BCS computers, I must look forward to watching UT play the Utes in the Fiesta Bowl. Should Utah win I don't know if I can handle all of the abuse from Ute friends. But I don't think I have much to worry about.

Colt McCoy with a chip on his shoulder pounding the Utes . . . Priceless.
re: utah? | 8:35 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
It's not Utah's fault they haven't beat a "quality" team. The "quality" teams are just plain scared to death of them.
Curtis Cooger | 8:38 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
The Utes have played well enough, have benefited from the opponent's mistakes (TCU kicker, BYU QB, etc.) and have the record to vault them into a BCS game against one of the other top teams in the country. They will get to test themselves against the best, which is what every athlete and every team wants. Good for them. I have immense respect for the Utah TEAM. The day of reckoning comes when the team has to back up the fans' arrogance. Utah fans will either be validated or humiliated. However, something tells me that even if the Utes lose and the Cougars win the bowl games, The Utes will crow "I'd rather lose a BCS bowl game than win the LV Bowl!!" Such is the misplaced logic of the typical frothy-mouthed, deranged Ute fan (is there any other kind?), who really takes more pleasure in BYU losing than Utah winning. Go ahead, Ute fans, prove me wrong if the Utes lose and the Cougs win. Oh by the way, Best of Luck to the Ute TEAM in their bowl. Too bad a classy TEAM has to drag along such classless fans after them.
Re: Re: LaVerl | 8:40 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Hey! Several of those questions are unfair. Afterall, the answers have numbers in them, and we all know tdS fans cant count or do math. Especially LaVerl, who thinks we cant fill a stadium despite averaging an attendance capacity of over 100%.

Try asking some OTHER questions that dont require quantification. Like, what difference does spectator attendance matter ANYWAY when youre getting blown out 48-24? You see there? The math had already been done. Now they can open their scriptures and seek out the answer.

I think the Utes Bowl record, and for that matter the TDS's, speak for themselves.

And yes I'd rather lose in a BCS bowl game to a quality opponent then win in the LV bowl. I'd take that anytime, every year.

Can't wait until the bowl games are announced and for the Utes extending their bowl game streak.

Go Utes!
RE: "Listen Clown" | 9:05 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Dude, where do i start with your knowledge or lack thereof, Oregon State did not finish second in the Pac 10, technically, they finished third behind USC with one conference loss and behind Oregon, who blew Oregon State off the field.

Secondly, where were you during the Utah - Oregon State game when the officials gave Utah the game with that grossly missed call on the two point conversion at the end of the game, you remember, the one where your top rated QB threw the ball ten yards behind the receiver, who tried to turn around and ran over the defensive back of Oregon State, trying to go back and catch the terrible pass and the OFFICIAL bailed out the Utah season with that HELP in the way of a yellow flag, and you say you DIDNT need help from the refs.

Seriously, just enjoy tripping into the BCS, if you had to play TCU or BYU at there place this year, you to would be "going to a bowl that nobody cares about". The stars were lined up this year for Utah - be happy for that and rout for your team without shooting your mouth off.

1) You still sound bitter about the Washington gift...and a little mad that Utah beat Oregon State...you clearly didn't see the play or you would know that it was a P.I...but that's neither here nor there, game is over, and Utes won.
2) The spelling is "root" for your team, not "rout" for your team
3) Keep telling yourself that mad Max is the best QB in the conference....while his numbers are the best, fact is he just can't put it together when it matters (any big game / game that can put you on the map).
4) Just keep working on getting to your first BCS, then let's talk.

Boom - outta here.
Re: Curtis Cooger | 9:41 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
If you want to talk about classless fan you need not go any further then BYU. As a Utes fan in Co Springs I have attended every Utah and BYU game at the AFA in the last 9 years and the most classless acts I have seen came for BYU fan in the last 2 game here. 2 years ago during a time out the AFA introduced a group of soldiers that were at the game with their families as guests of the AFA because they being sent to Iraq in the coming weeks. Most of the stadium stood and applauded. The applause actually went long enough that the game was delayed in restarting. There was a group of BYU fans that actually had the nerve to tell people to shut up so the game could start. This year there was a family that was actaully insulting a near by Cadet so bad that even other BYU fans asked them to leave. I wonder if they practiced their insults in FHE. So it's no wonder that you are the most hated fans in football.

As a BYU grad,it's quite frankly embarrassing to see so many fellow BYU fans commenting on a Utah article. Usually it's just Utah fans who are obsessed with BYU, but now it's just the opposite - we can't stop talking about the Utes. Let's all quit trash talking - who cares anymore? The game was played, the Utes are the better team, that's it. I'm embarrassed reading BYU fans posts on here - BYU fans: please, please, please, quit embarrassing the majority of BYU fans who realize that Utah was better this year and has had the upper leg for the past 5 years or so - let's just cheer for our Cougs and stop the petty comments - it looks desperate.

Re Utah- fact or fiction | 10:15 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Utah beat UCS in 2001 in the Las Vegas Bowl. USC has since won the Pac 10 each year or had a share of it and the National Championsip in 03 and 04. Utah beat Pitt in 2004 in the Fiesta Bowl. Pitt was the Big East champion that year. Utah beat Michigan this year. Michigan last won the Big Ten in 03 and shared with Iowa in 04 and the Co-National Championship in 1997 with Nebraska. Let's not forget the thrashing Utah put on UCLA last year (44-6) who last won the Pac 10 in 1998. I'm sure there's more but I don't have the time or the energy to keep looking. Any other questions?
Not so fast my friend | 10:17 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
"2004 - Pitt, finished first in the Big East."

Pittsburgh (8-4) actually finished in a four-way tie for first in the Big East, and only 1 win ahead of 5th place Syracuse (whom they lost to) in a 7-team league.

Big East 2004
Syracuse_____4-2, 6-6 L
Boston Col___4-2, 9-3 W
Pittsburgh___4-2, 8-4
W Virginia___4-2, 8-4 W
Connecticut__3-3, 8-4 L
Rutgers______1-5, 4-7 W
Temple_______1-5, 2-9 W

Pittsburgh's only win's against Div 1A opponents with winning records were at home against:

#21 Boston College (9-3) 20-17
West Virginia (8-4) 16-13

Pittsburgh barely beat a Div 1AA team at home and the Big East cellar dweller:

Div 1AA Furman (10-3), 41-38
at Notre Dame (6-6), 41-38
at Temple (2-9), 27-22

Pittsburgh LOST to:
Nebraska (5-6), 17-24
at Connecticut (8-4), 17-29
at Syracuse (6-6), 31-38

Pittsburgh didn't even appear in the BCS rankings until November 27th, jumping in at #23, and moving to #21 in the Final BCS Standings on December 4th.

If Pittsburgh hadn't been in an automatically qualifying BCS conference, the Panthers would never have been considered for BCS bid.

BYU and Utah fans alike: Enough stats already! None of it matters. Here are the facts: Utah 2 BCS bowls, BYU 0. 'Nuff said. I am a Utah fan, and am proud of my Utes, but BYU is close to the BCS bids as well....let's just get over it and move on. BYU should have the inside track next year to the BCS which is great. Anything to make the state and conference look good is good press.

Also, BYU fans need to quit trying to throw Anae off the ship! It's a bitter pill to swallow seeing your rival beat you and then go to another BCS game, but you've got a great program and you're almost there, so quit pouting and calling for Anae's head. Nobody ever complains when everything is perfect...nor during the years BYU goes 10-2 and beats Utah...so why complain now?

I'm in total agreement with "As a BYU grad." I've been watching this rivalry for nearly 30 years. That is likely longer than most of the people who post here have been alive. It does appear that a lot the momentum of hatred has shifted to the blue side of the ledger. As a Utah fan, I can remember the Lavell era and how Utah fans were seething with jealousy and rage over their rivals in Provo. It is funny how at the end of the day we have more in common than anybody would admit to.

A quick review of this weeks Bowl Projections.

ESPN/ABC Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Notre Dame Poinsettia
USA Today Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CNN/SI Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CBS Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CFM/Scout.com Utah -v- Texas Fiesta BYU -v- California Las Vegas
NBC Sports Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Nevada Poinsettia

Personally I like Utah (12-0) -v- Texas (11-1) in the Fiesta Bowl and BYU (10-2) -v- BSU (12-0) in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Otherwise, too many UTAH/BYU fans are making the same stale arguments from prior to 22d November. The result on the field, that is Utah's resounding win, solves which team the best was in 2008 - Utah - period. Only the most ardent Homers are still arguing close wins, SOS, blown calls, etc. Save these arguments for next November.

I don't expect BYU/UTAH to spend much time holding hands and singing Kum Ba Ya, however whats best for the MWC now (BYU and Utah included) are wins by Utah and BYU; TCU, AFA and CSU. The enemy at this point is all non-MWC teams, particularly those of the BCS conferences.
