Utah Vs. Boise! | 1:02 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
I like the idea! Then we at least could call the winner the "Unofficial National Champion" Hey, that means just as much as the bogus BCS national champion when teams with 1 or 2 losses get crowned over other 1 loss teams and even Undefeated teams! I think many people would rather watch the two unbeaten teams play over two 1 loss teams! Of course we would all rather watch them play a 12 or 16 team playoff and decide this on the field like ALL other NCAA sports! Then the game would actually mean something!

P.S. Boise has been more consistent than ANY MWC team over the past 10 years! If the MWC added BSU, the BCS just might have to give the MWC an automatic berth in a couple years based on their formula for strength of conference (being better than the Big East and sometimes even the ACC)!
socalmon | 1:11 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
The reason why your Boise States, Fresno States, Utahs, BYUs, South Floridas, etc. have a difficult time with the BCS is quite simple. One need look no further than Notre Dame University. They have MILLIONS of viewers and therefore have a weekly contract on TV, WIN or LOSE. That's because the sponsors will get more money from more viewers to buy their products. The same goes for your Michigans, Ohio States, USCs, etc. They also have tons of fans in the fan base as potential customers to buy the advertised products. It's almost a pseudo-professional setup.
The BCS stands for the BIG CASH SYSTEM $$$$$$$$
GoodGuyGary | 4:01 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
I really don't mind BSU join MWC. MWC will have then have 4 top 25 teams in the nation, it can be a good conference. Also, if USC decides Pac-10 is too weak for them, they can join MWC too.

Currently, there are 17 groups headquartered in Idaho that have been listed as Racist Hate Groups.

That statistic is shocking. Please stay in the WAC. The MWC doesn't need this kind of drama.
BSU in the MWC? | 7:49 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
People, we need to think this out first. Let's say for some odd reason the MWC invited Fresno or somebody else and Boise to join the conference. At this time NOT a good idea. If they did, you could most likely kiss a bcs invite goodbye, unless, for some reason, the bcs offered the conference an auto-bid, which they wouldnt for the first year. You think Utah, byu, TCU, or Boise could go undefeated with those three conference games? Might happen once but not 5 times in 5 years (utah, bsu in 04, bsu in 06, both teams this year) Sure it would be an extremely competitive conference, but unless it was guaranteed a bcs berth before the conference came to be it would be incredibly stupid. Just my opinion though, any thoughts?
Brady | 7:49 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Could you imagine what would happen if the MWC let Boise join?

At every game, you would have groups picketing for the prop 8 support Utah gave, and in addition, you would have people picketing the games for support of all of the Aryan Nation groups in Idaho.

This would be absolutely terrible.
careful about bashing Toledo win | 8:21 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Be careful about bashing FSU for beating a "terrible" Toledo team. That "terrible" Toledo team beat Michigan by more points than Utah did. ooops
re careful | 8:53 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Ok, crawl back into your blue covered hole and take a nap. Guess what, Ute fans aren't talking about the Michigan win anymore.
re: I love BSU Fans | 9:00 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
If Boise State were to go 5-3 in the MWC, and 2-2 out of conference to finish 7-5, it would be a noteworthy addition to the MWC. Give them a few years of recruiting and they could likely finish 10-2 or 11-1, though I doubt they will get the undefeated seasons that came so easily in the WAC. Still it would be one more strong program in the conference and one that people have heard of. Utah would have several big games per year against potentially ranked teams IN CONFERENCE, as would BYU and TCU. The other programs for BSU would get stronger eventually through recruiting and a 10-team MWC could tout it's top four, plus AF and CSU on occasion, as bowl-eligible. And it's a school within our geographic area, fans would travel to games since Boise is closer than 1/2 of the teams (measuring from Salt Lake City).
David O | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Boise needs to take their blue turf and awful orange and play some ranked teams next year. In the meantime, enjoy Utah playing in yet another BCS by beating so many ranked teams.
Wait a minute.... | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Utah is getting knocked for "only" beating 2 teams ranked at the time (BYU, TCU) plus Oregon St. who beat USC and going to the Rose, and I don't care what you say, an win at Michigan is still an achievement.

And BSU beat who??? An overrated Oregon team and a bunch of WAC wussies. They had to pour it on in the 4th to distance themselves from Hawaii, USU, and Nevada. All teams the Utes would have (or did) beat by 50+.
TCU | 11:10 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Let's be honest, if TCU could have made a FG, Utah would not be undefeated.

In fact, all of Utah's major wins came at home.

Boise State went to Oregon and won. That is a very tough place to play and win.

The BCS is a joke, lets get a playoff system going and settle these issues on the field!!!
Idaho? Are you serious? | 12:02 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Why are we even having this discussion?! Nobody wants Boise in their conference because Boise (in case anybody isn't paying attention) is in Idaho!

Enough said. Case closed.

Go Broncos!!!

i like it when people bring up that boise state lost to utah twice in the 80's when boise was in the big sky. i would hope so!!! they were in the BIG SKY! didnt utah state beat the utes twice in the 90's with malafala and dyson? utes have had two great seasons ever, the cougs havent been for real since they won 13 games and beat k-state in the 90's. hopefully boise will join the mwc. on there way to the pac-10!!! top to bottom the wac would have a winning record against mwc, boise would beat utah, idaho would beat san diego state. and ball state would be smoked by boise state and that is the real reason ball state is not interested.

You Utah people are mean spirited and vicious.

Boise is a wonderful place to live. Stay down in Utah...... we don't want you kind living here.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO Broncos
re: TCU | 2:33 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
You can take any game once the score is final, say "if only" and change the outcome. Utah beat 2 teams ranked higher than Oregon when BSU beat them.

BSU's schedule was filled with weaklings like San Jose State, NM State, and Louisiana Tech. Lesser lights like USU, Nevada and Hawaii were in the hunt until late in the game.

BSU probably doesn't belong in the Top 25 when you consider all of the teams who play real D1 teams week in and week out.

Bottom line, I agree the BCS needs fixing. But dragging the season out to a playoff that totals 14 or 15 games risks injury to the game's best who kept their end of the bargain and can now move to the lucrative NFL. I would hate to see one kid's career ended because of some silly playoff.
Gregory | 4:37 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Idaho really does bite. I was forced to go to my Aunt's house in Blackfoot, Idaho this year for Thanksgiving. I will never go back to Blackfoot, unless I am reincarnated as a potato.

Please do not invite Boise into the MWC. It's bad enough that BYU has to play in Laramie, WY. If you force BYU to also play in Boise every year, recruiting will suffer greatly.
Anonymous | 5:12 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
The bigger question is why Thompson and the MWC does not add Boise to the conf. It is such a no brainer it is scarey! Utah, Boise, TCU, Air Force and BYU at the top would be a GREAT conf. Then all that is needed is to dump Wyoming and add Tulsa and it would easily be one of the top 5 conf's. Stop playing around and get this done! Boise deserves a better conf. and the MWC deserves them.

Such trash talk I have never before seen. Utah & BYU fans are as arrogant as they come. BSU would whip The Utes & Cougars. Bring it on!

Don't chicken out... | 8:45 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Don't you dare chicken out against TCU. I want to see Boise put their money where their mouths are. You'd get toasted by 3 of our teams...

let's see--Utes claimed a major win (at home) vs OSU, who gets creamed tonight (also at home) in a must win contest vs rival UO. Let's see...the same Ducks who were beaten (in Eugene) by BSU?

Go Broncos!
BSU BRONCO | 9:11 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Wow did Oregon just beat Oregon State? Wow its a good thing that they are overated and that BSU's win over the Ducks didnt mean anything!

Wow another huge victory over a non conferance team for the Utes. I guess in your way of thinking BSU should be the Natinol Champs. Isnt that what all you yewte fans thought when you beat the Beavers by 3.

This is Proving how overatted the Utes are. Hopeyou enjoy getting hammerd by one of the big boys in a BCS game. The only way the Utes win another BCS game is if they play another High School like you did in 04! After BSU wins there Bowl and goes 13-0 we will be ranked higher than the utes anyway!
Mike from Sandy | 9:11 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
BYU fans have no room to talk on here at all. They got lit up by TCU and taken to the woodshed by Utah.

Boise State is undefeated and owns the Cougars...
WAM MWC PLAYOFF | 9:56 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
The WAC and the MWC need to have a single game playoff with the champion from each conference then getting the Automatic BCS Bowl bid - to start in 2010 when they add the Cotton Bowl. We both have Texas Teams and this would be a good tie in - plus lots more loot in the playoff - the winning league gets the BCS money but the two can share in a big playoff game - plus it would add credibility to the two leagues.
Bust the BCS | 10:11 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
A big thing happened tonight. With Oregon beating OSU, USC is now going to Rose Bowl and is not at-large BCS team. This frees up a slot. TTU can't go due to 2 team conference limit. Will a 2 loss Ohio State team get the other at-large over Boise State? If so, a lawsuit should occur. It would be an outrage. Both Utah and BSU should get the two at large spots this year!
JILLBERT | 10:27 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
SOMEBODY IS GOING TO RUFF-UP BOISE ST. BLUE TURF SMURFS ON THAT BLUE TURF SOON AND ALL THE DAZZLE OF THE BLUUUUU TURF WILL SLIDE DOWN A PAIRE DOG HOLE.
The At Large Spot | 10:34 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Looks like a spot opened up tonight with Oregon State going down. Who will it be?

My guess is Ohio State, and not just because of the $$$. They deserve to be there. Sure, they've had their share of problems the last couple years, but man... a healthy Beanie Wells is nearly impossible to take down, and their true freshman quarterback is an absolute freak of nature. It sounds like they've worked out some of their quirks and are finally playing close to their potential. After watching the way they've played this last month, I have question they would beat either Utah or Boise State with ease right now. They tossed Michigan around like a rag doll, and Utah struggled.
I love it | 11:00 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
I love reading these posts. So many people have stated that Utah beat Oregon State at home and USC lost to Oregon State on the road, so I guess Utah and Boise State could beat USC. Are you serious. On any given day anything could happen, but if USC played either one of these teams they would beat them 19 out of 20 times. Oregon State played out of their minds against USC. USC only has the greatest coach who ever lived and the number 1 defense in the country. I also think we know how good they are in bowl games (other than the loss to Texas) I don't think they have lost a bowl game under Carrol. Don't get me wrong I like the Utes and the Broncos, however their in the minor leagues and the USC's, Penn States, Florida's, Alabama's, Texas's ....(I think you get the picture) are in the majors. I'll bet Florida will play Oklahoma for the National Championship, USC vs. Penn St., ACC and Big East, the U of U will play maybe Texas? Texas 63 Utah 3 maybe.
Idahoan | 11:09 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
"We both have Texas Teams" What Texas team is in the WAC? I just looked up the WAC website; no member from Texas. Rice is now in a different conference, UTEP as well.
Re Observer & Bronco | 4:28 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
The Oregon win isn't that impressive. Oregon was decimated with injuries to their Qbs, their starter that game (who happens to be their 3rd string) got hurt in the first half and the guy he was platooning with got replaced by the 5th string QB in the 2nd half. What was impressive was Oregon's 5th string Qb throwing for three TD's against Boise St in the 4th quarter.

So go ahead and brag about beating a team who lost their starting QB for the season and then his replacement the week before they play Boise. Must be nice to catch them on a week like that. Nothing about your season is impressive. YOUR TEAM IS OVERATTED. Be glad you will not get into a BCS bowl game, you will look worse than Hawaii did last year.

RE: i love it | 4:53 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Pete Carrol has lost 2 bowl games. You already mentioned the one against Texas, the other was to the Utes in 2001. You are right though beating a team who beat a team doesn't mean you can beat that team. I never liked circular reasoning and don't think it proves anything.

I wouldn't call Carrol the greatest coach ever, I would call him a great coach but an even better recruiter. He really turned USC around.

re: educated in Utah. So you were "off elsewhere for your doctoral studies". Wow!, Give me a break Poindexter! The Holy War is awesome. It gets more national press each year. I don't like the LDS bashing, but for the most part it's great to have such a bitter rivalry. I know this is a BSU post, so who do they have as their rival. Exactly!,not many rivalries come close to utah/BYU. Come down from your Ivory tower and join the masses bro. I went elsewhere for my post graduate degree too but I'm glad to say I get pumped for the utes/BYU every year. Sounds like you're one of those cling-on fans who says I'm a fan of so-and-so, whichever team happens to be playing best that year. Buys a Red Sox hat AFTER they win a World Series; a Giant's hat after the Super Bowl; ect. I know the type. Knows little about sports but claims to be a BIG sports fan. Says things like, "I hope the utes win the WAC this year," or " I hope the Steelers and the Broncos play in the Super Bowl this year, they match up really well. That's pathetic.
Re Observer and Bronco | 12:14 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Huh did you Watch the Oregon Boise State game? Probally not you Yewte fans pretend you know everything when you dont. Boise State faced the same QB who lit up The Beavers last night so that one is solved. Second what is impressive about Utahs season? tell me something that is. Your non Conferance schedule proved to be weaker than Boise States after the Beavers got spanked. Michigan is a joke, Toledo beat them by more than you did and then Fresno Beat Toledo, I think we all know what Boise did to Fresno on Friday.
Enough! | 1:44 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
The Utes would beat Boise State by at least 17 points. BSU had to rally to get by Utah State, while the Utes were up by about 40 at the half as I recall, and could have run it up to 70 or 80 if they wanted to.

These teams play in two different leagues - the WAC is weak, everyone knows that.

The BSU Quarterback everyone is so high on got shutdown his senior year of high school 2 years ago playing for state against little Ferndale High in Washington. Only Jake Locker (now QB for UW) went D1. Not saying Kellen Moore couldn't have improved in 2 years, but he's been playing against small school boys his entire HS and college career. He'd get picked clean against a real secondary - just as he did in the blowout loss to Ferndale HS (47-13 as I recall and the points for Moore all came against the soph/frosh unit in the waning moments).

"I agree with your comments Jessica. I lived in Northern Idaho for several years. Racism is in their blood. Aryan Nation groups thrive in Idaho because of that.

The MWC does not need that kind of reputation. The MWC should distance itself from all things Idaho. "

Otis Spurlock, you're just as delusional as anyone else who believes that. I've lived in northern Idaho for nearly my whole life and it's apparent that you don't know jack squat about the people up there. People like you make me sick.

I predict BSU defeats TCU by at least 18 points.
BTBronco | 10:55 a.m. Dec. 19, 2008
To correct the record here, BSU has not lost to a MWC since they have been D1 (since 1996). They lost to Utah when they were D1AA.
