Dick is right, don't rate them until they are in a uniform and playing good ball for you. Players are changing schools all the time even after committing and starting classes.
The classic example is Ben Olson. Does anyone even remember him? He was supposed to be the greatest. He is finishing his career on the bench. Okay, he got injured, but the question is whether he would even have been BYU's starting QB now.

pointless article | 12:35 a.m. Nov. 27, 2008
how can you compare offensive lineman to wrs and qbs, and rank them on that kind of scale. I don't get how you can claim who is number 1 or who is number 32 when they haven't even arrived on campus yet! that's just what I think though.

I am sure the Y will get the majority of 4 and 5 star recruits from California and Texas and some from Florida. Folks do not realize how much talent that the Y has and which is why we should win the NC numerous times in the upcoming seasons.

Did you even read the article? They have many ways of ranking players.

These rankings surprise me, because both Scout and Rivals have James Aiona listed as the best player in this class, BAR NONE. He is the only player from this class who could play for any team in the country, and the only 5 star.

It doesn't matter | 8:03 a.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Who the two schools recruit. The coaches at Utah are far better and will get the most out of whoever they get. Especially when the players are far more athletic. It doesn't matter how raw and unpolished they are when they arrive, speed can't be taught.

"Fetters rates Ute-bound lineman Jones from Jordan the best offensive lineman in the state in the class of 2009 behind Cottonwood's 6-3, 270-pound John Martinez and Timpview's 6-5, 285-pound Xavier Sua'Filo"

How can Jones be "the best offensive lineman in the state" If he is BEHIND Martinez and Xavier???

You might try reading your own stuff Dick. Because your lack of proofreading makes it hard for the rest of us to understand what you are trying to say.

Again!

Bahahahaha NC talks again? I thought your thrashing by two legit top ten teams this year would abolish those talks.. silly me for underestimating cougar-nation. Unless BYU recruited sheer speed like Utah and TCU do, I don't see you cracking the TOP 3 in the conference for the next decade, but keep telling yourself, "next year."

Don't worry. You don't get out much do you? This happens at more schools than BYU. You don't know the fscts, just your puny uninformed bias. Get a life you loser.

oes anyone realize that the Utes could have been playing for the National Championship if it were not fore a bone-headed move by the athletic department?

Yes, the Utes.

The Utes had Texas on their schedule for this year a few years ago. With an upset of the Longhorns and Texas in the National title hunt, the Utes would be right there.

Instead, we cancelled on them because "we had to make room" for TCU. Which was bogus. It didn't make sense because we then scheduled Weber State a few weeks later. Then last year we added Michigan to the schedule for the 12th game. Make room for TCU was a big excuse. I don't know if it was Chris Hill or Urban Meyer who nixed the game, but they are surely regretting that decision now.

What a shame! Oh...what could have been?

Great season though...GO UTES!

It just gets worse and worse. People keep trying to paint everything blue.

Who did you say evaluated the new Kittens and Papooses? Did they say he was associated with the U of Washington?

My, isn't that an auspicious group, DH and a Husky Musher. YOu know they (The Dogs) had to go to OT to lose the Apple Cup to the second worst team in the PAC 10. This guy probably helped evaluate their talent too.

I think this "evaluator" must be grading on the Cougar Curve. The BYU game was the second closest thing the Dogs had to a win this year. You know when you put on the Blue glasses, everything does appear blue.

Well, you have to take this article with a grain of salt. No, not a grain, how about a 50# bag, and a little pepper, and oregeno. Now cook @ 400 for about 3.5 hours, and you might be able to eat this turkey.

I don't think I can swallow it.

We've got Krueger for 2 more years, that's good enough for me.

To Dick??? at 8:25 am

You need to work on your READING COMPREHENSION, my friend.

He is only listing those who have ALREADY gave committments or pledges to the UTES and to the COUGARS.

Martinez and X have not yet done so.

Ute fans that think speed wins games... it's actually execution. Speed is nice to have (and BYU rarely has it) but if you can't execute your assignments it doesn't really matter. I think BYU beat Utah and TCU last year with the same lack of speed as they had this year. Utah and TCU just executed better... and that what good teams do.

I would take the slow, white guy, Austin Collie, for my team anytime/anyday over anybody (speed or no speed) that Utah or TCU has on their team. Austin is "fast enough" but he executes (run's great routes, makes good decisions, and is a fundamentally sound football player) his assignments better than anyone in the MWC.

Utah should know that it really isn't speed that wins football games. TCU has significantly more speed that Utah, yet Utah was able to overcome that by executing (that's something the TCU kicker wasn't able to do.) So Utes, just keep executing... because whoever you face in a BCS bowl is most likely going to have more speed and athleticism than Utah.

Dear Lou | 9:15 a.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Be careful of what you wish for. Texas would have gladly played Utah and taken all the BCS money coming the Utes way. It isn't whether you win or lose. It is how you play the game. College football, unfortuately, is big business and the Utes/MWC are getting that money this year. Thank goodness it isn't going to Boise State and the WAC.

The yoots dropped Texas because they knew Texas was going to be really good and added Michigan because they knew Michigan's program was going in the toilet and could be beaten by a team like yootah or even Toledo.

Hill is really glad now that he dropped Texas from the schedule because your precious little yoots would have lost 65-17 and would have to root for Boise to win one for the little guys in a BCS bowl game this year.

I'm hoping the yoots get to play a legit BCS bowl team this time instead of a weak patsy like '04 Pitt who would have finished 5th if they were in the MWC. The yoots have played a number of weak bowl opponents over the years which has nicely padded their bogus bowl win record.
