Everyone complains about the BCS system but the system in 1984 was even worse. National champion, but not the best team in 1984.
Class? | 11:03 a.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Its funny to hear all the BYU fans complain that utah and their fans have no class...
Well, lets see what happened at the beginning of the game shall we.
It is senior day at RES, each senior is being announced individually to recieve an ovation from the fans, and walk out with their families.
As the QB of utah is about to be announced, the kittens start coming out of their tunnell.
Oh, so their was mis timing on this? NO THERE WAS NOT!
You cant honestly say that and believe it.
Bronco and his classless zoobies got what they deserved. Twice your score. Eat your "humble pie" kittens.
No, Harline is not open
Yes, Hall did just throw another interception

New TV agreement for MWC! Jettison THE MOUNTAIN, or whatever that obscure fledgling network is called. Lets see the Mountain West Conference move into prominence and respect!

I am a huge Utah fan I have season tickets and I felt so bad for a little boy decked out in his blue going home a little early whiping away his tears. He wanted BYU to win so bad. Like all of us rooting for our teams we want to win but sometimes we don't. However I was impressed with the class of Jorgenson after the TO's by his offense. He was helping Utah players up and patting them on the head. What a classy kid his parents should be proud. I am. and I am a Ute parent.

>>just wondering why Utah fans don't have enough class to respect BYU for their accomplishments. <<

Seems to me that sword cuts both ways.
Coaches | 11:44 a.m. Nov. 24, 2008
I am not going to say that BYU was out coached because all coaches try to win every game they coach. They don't play the game to loose but some do. However if a player is having a bad game the best thing to do is pat him on the head tell them that your proud of him and work with him to get out of the funk. Don't just talk for a second to him as he walks off the field and leave him by himself. Love him in good times and bad.
Fully Invested | 12:06 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Anonymous, wrong. I see a lot of BYU fans give Utah credit when they win, but when BYU won two years in a row all we heard from Utah fans was how our Cougars got lucky. Yes we have obnoxious fans but when it comes to classless fans, Utah takes that one hands down. But like I said, Utah had the better team this year and they are going to a bowl game for the second time that BYU has never been to. Too bad some of their fans have to ruin it for everyone.
anon | 12:59 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
or better wait, see who the utes are playing and buy them from that team like many did last time.

Jeff and Julie Jorgenson are indeed great parents. Jeff was my Jr. High football coach(go Helper Rams!) and all three of their children are model citizens and they can thank thier parents for that.

In fact the only bad choice I can see Jan made was playing for BYU(bad choice for Utah fans that is) jk.

Go Utes
U of U friend | 1:36 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Some of the Ute fans are very selfish greedy people with no manners of sportsmanship whatsoever. They seem to be the ME, ME, ME group of people today. They have criminal behavior as well. What as shame for the University of Utah, Ute team, of players to have these extremely ignorant people hanging around causing problems.
UTES! | 1:43 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Enough of the arguments. Both teams played well, the cards just fell for the Utes the second half. Its a rival game and it could go anyway. Good fight by the cougars, good D by the Utes. It was a great game, and will be a great game next year!
sorry guys | 1:52 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
but if you utah goes to either the fiesta bowl or sugar bowl and plays the likes of alabama or texas and wins. that will greatly out weigh byu's national championship. as did boise state against oklahoma.
RE: Fully Invested | 1:55 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Hahaha wow a BYU fan posting about 1984 on here. I'm so shocked. Do me a favor and PLEASE keep bringing up that National Championship Asterisk that happened a quarter of a century ago, because it gets funnier every year.

And sorry dude, I was at the game. Some of the cougs DID come out and get ready to do the Haka before the Utes ran over and made it clear they weren't having it. I saw it, and so did the whole stadium. Maybe you were the coug fan I saw with the beer bong before the game? :)

All I heard about before that game was how Hall is such a better quarterback than Johnson. Hope you liked watching BJ go 30 for 36. Our WHOLE TEAM is still open!!!! And so are our corners. :)

re: BCS Money @ 7:12 a.m. | 2:11 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Seriously showing your ignorance here. Did you actually look to see how many players, students, fans, alumns, etc. are members of the LDS church? What's your point anyway? Do you think the rivalry is a religious thing? It's called competition between two schools. As a church member and U of U alumn, I have never viewed this rivalry as anything church related, and I know many fans (admittedly not all) who are members as well and would never view this as cheering against the church. We cheer against BYU, not the church. And we won this time. Go Utes!
Gracious Winners, Losers | 2:28 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
I think perhaps the only thing worse than a poor loser is a poor winner.

BYU Fans: you need to graciously accept the fact that the Cougars were outplayed. It was a hard-fought battle, but Utah played a stellar game.

Utah Fans: you need to graciously accept the fact that although you're going to a BCS bowl game, you still need to win...no need to brag too much quite yet. Utah needs to represent the MWC well. We don't want a Georgia-Hawaii replay.

Let's all rally behind the Utes and hope they win a big bowl game!

You Know what? FULLY INVESTED, You are just making up lies on here, because you are probably one of the same Ute fan that I saw shouting profound language at anyone and everyone who looked LDS during the game. SHAME ON U! I am a LDS person who attends the U of U. Nevertheless I had people like you using the 4 letter words at me for no reason at all.
UteFantotheEnd | 2:53 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
I love all the smack talk that the Y fans were giving. If it weren't for Hall's fumbles and interceptions you might have won. In your face Cougars. Utah is THE UNIVERSITY
UTES! | 3:16 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Both fanbases need to learn to win and lose with dignity and honor. I was upset with the treatment I saw my fellow Ute fans give the Cougars and vice versa. Win or lose with honor and treat your competition with respect. People are not bad just because they root for one team over the other.
Howard Stucki | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
All you yewt fans are loving Whittingham now, but
I predict...no I prophesy that YOU YEWTS will some
day soon call for his head and to be fired. You love
your coaches when they win but you hate them when
they lose. Look at Ron McBride for example.
Utesby24 | 3:32 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Why do all the Y fans complain about hearing swear words, and getting heckled at the Rice Eccles? Nobody is forcing you to attend the games. Just stay home and watch it if you cant take it. Besides I have received the same kind of treatment from BYU fans. BYU is constantly voted the MOST HATED TEAM, because they have no class! Just look at Max Hall... the cheap shot ball baby.
RE: Gracious | 3:33 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
"Utah Fans: you need to graciously accept the fact that although you're going to a BCS bowl game, you still need to win...no need to brag too much quite yet."

I see the point you're trying to make here, but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Ute fans have every reason to celebrate. Not down-playing the upcoming BCS game in any way- cuz we're all pumped for it- but its nothing compared to the game that took place on Saturday. That was THE BIGGEST GAME IN THE HISTORY OF THE RIVALRY. No other game compares to it, even including the huge game we have coming up.

That BCS win would be some great icing on the cake, but the game that everyone in the state cared the most about, the game that mattered more than any other, has just been played, and the Runnin' Utes prevailed. Don't ever forget it!
BYU is Most Hated | 3:47 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
I'm a Ute fan all the way, but BYU is the most hated because they are Mormons. Not because their fans have no class. I have to admit that our student section is shameful, we (not I) chanted stuff about mormons, joseph smith, and called byu fans profanities.
I can honestly say I've never encountered that at the Y. A couple of jeers and ornery old men telling me to sit down, but no bottles thrown at peoples heads like I saw a student do on Saturday. Great team, but our fans are an embarassment.

RE: Howard Stucki

Dude are you serious? Zoobies (BYU fans) are calling for Bronco's head right now. If Bronco was a good coach, he would have pulled Max Hall, and gave the ball to Unga. I still dont think had a chance of winning. But they might have scored more, had less turnovers, and eaten up more of the clock.
Sorry Bronco was trying to prove that Max Hall is some kind of elite QB. The truth is all he proved is that Max Hall has Dumbo Ears, and cant complete passes when it counts.
Utesby24 | 4:17 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
RE: BYU is Most Hated
It is not because they are mormons. It is because it is a Religous school and their players are (just as, if not more) foul mouthed and dirty. You would expect a program from a religous school and mainly the coach to hold their team to a higher standard since they recieve funding from their church (hence they are representing that religion).
RES experience | 4:43 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
My 10 year old son was offered drugs during haftime by a Utah fan...

What a bad experience...
RE: RES experience | 5:33 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Not only to the guy that just posted, but even more so to every coug whining about the horrible drunken serial killer rapist Utah fans.

Utah has the least drunk, most Mormon college football fans of any school in the country other than BYU. Provo is a great place, but when you leave it you are leaving a little bubble, plain and simple. That's awful that your son was offered drugs by someone at the game- but for you to point out that it was a Utah fan, and post it here as if all Utah fans are drug dealers, is pretty lame my friend.

I'm LDS, as are all my Crimson Club relatives, and I've been going to basketball and football games at the U since before I can remember, and I've had nothing but great experiences.
TO: RE, Gracious | 5:35 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
You hit the nail on the head, but as a typical Ute fan, you hit it with your head!!!

If you play AND BEAT someone like Alabama, Florida or Oklahoma (and not an emaciated Pitt). . . THAT will be the greatest win for you ever. . . NOT beating BYU. Here's the drill: since time in memorial I have heard Ute fans say, "We are for Utah AND anyone playing BYU." NO NO NO. You will NEVER be a great program until you get that "carp" out of your mind!!!!!! You want EVERYONE you play to win ALL their games, EXCEPT when they play you. That's how you look the best when you win.

Oh nothings ruined for us buddy! Our victory is still just as sweet as it was on Saturday. If you want to see a bitter, classless fan that doesn't recognize another schools accomplishments, just take a look in the mirror :)

Keep them comin BYU fans. I love all these myths on how scary the fans are at the stadium. From the drugs to the hulkish blond woman that is going to give someone a pounding. We can't stop laughing, waiting for more.....

Oh and to the BSU fan stuck in 2005, try this.

What a bunch of disgusting insane comments. Some of you people need to get some help for all your deep inner hate. These comments truly show your true colors and who you truly are. I'm happy that I do not know such people personally. Judging by what some of you have written on here, I would suspect that many of you have never graduated from high school. It shows!
RE: Gracious | 6:01 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Passionate response, but next time you need to read what you're responding to. I never said anything about wanting BYU to lose any other games. In fact, BYU's great ranking was instrumental to this being the biggest game in the rivalry's history. And everyone in the state got EVEN more passionate and cared EVEN more about this game than we will about the huge BCS game we have coming up- and you know it.
I like Bronco. I think he's gonna keep BYU competitive, and I love seeing them win when they aren't playing us. Just makes the victory that much sweeter. This was the big one, its going to be remembered as the big one, and Utah won it. Don't forget. Go UTES!!!!
luck? | 6:40 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
BYU had more yards so that means Utah got lucky with the win?

Let me tell you something, Utah would have had a lot more yards if the end zone didn't keep getting in the way.

Our defense caused Max Hall to throw almost as many pics as Johnson had incompletions. Kruger's still open!

Go Utes!
BEST SIGN @ GAME>>> | 7:34 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
The best sign at the game hands down was, "Jesus Loves U"....I was lovin it! I went down and got a picture with this dude and told him he just became the most popular guy at the U....HAHAHA

Go Utes!!!

-Notice how it said, "Jesus Loves U"...not..."Jesus Loves Y"....hahaha ;)

FOR YOU SILLY BYU FANS!

You are TERRIBLE on the ROAD!

You are TERRIBLE against RANKED OPPONENTS!

You CHOKE in BIG GAMES (see bowl record)

Each of these areas ought to be your quest! IMPROVE in these areas and you can join the elite BCS BOWL PLAYING TEAMS such as the UNIVERSITY OF UTAH.

Oh, and by the way stop making excuses, and trying to still claim that you are the better team. It is super annoying, and you are making yourselves sound silly. "we would have won if..... we should have won if.... we handed you the game on a silver platter.....BLAH BLAH BLAH.

I have tried to be gracious about this rivalry throughout the years, but there is a small minority among the BYU FAITHFUL that just rubs me so wrong.

Many of you have been congratulatory and have acknowledged that the UTAH defense may have just had something to do with the interceptions. Oh Max himself was one of those people.

Or perhaps it's just a coincidence that the 2 eggs that max hall laid were against the only quality opponents he faced. There may just be a correlation there? EH

Stop you sour grapes and MAN_UP
BamaFan | 9:05 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
First of all, let me say congratulations to the Utes for flat out smashing the Cougars on Saturday. Running the table in any conference is a big accomplishment and avoiding a non-conference loss is just as rewarding. However, I can assure you that you do not want any part of my beloved Alabama Crimson Tide in a Sugar Bowl matchup. I can see how getting the opportunity to play a power-house SEC team in a BCS game would excite your players, coaches and fans and the pay day would certainly benefit the University, but let's be realistic; there is no chance you keep that game competitive let alone win it. The outcome would be very similar to last years Georgia-Hawaii game. The Sugar Bowl would be wise to avoid a similar disaster and stay away from any MWC team. If Alabama runs the table, the only similarity between the two teams is the undefeated record and thats where it ends. The SEC is the most dominant conference in the nation and they will back that up with another National Championship!

Roll Tide Baby!

I just wish that Mormon Ute fans would stand up for their religion and not let the anti-Mormon fans at RES pick on BYU fans and their religion. Just one. Just one Utah Utes fan that is Mormon. All of you stood there in your red sweaters and either laughed about it or looked the other way. Every single one of you. Pathetic.

Would the Utes play Bama for the BCS Title?

This will happen right after a moderate & sensible Y fan is found to balence out all the jello eaters.

So, it will probably never happen.

Article quote: "If he's not an all-conference quarterback," Whittingham said, "I don't know who is."

OK, I'll tell you, Coach.

Max Hall.

Look at the numbers and even after Brian Johnson's great game (and he did play very in our rivalry game, certainly much better than Hall did), Max Hall's numbers over the course of the entire season will come in higher.

OK, I've made up my mind | 3:24 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
I moved to Utah when I was about thirteen. I'm LDS and so I gravitated to pulling for BYU though I lived in Bountiful and the U was closer. As a freshmen in college I actually went to the U.

My point is that I heard about a lot of trash talk between BYU and Utah but never got directly involved by discussing it with anyone. Talking smack is a lot of fun, or can be, if you do it right.

After reading a lot of "pro-Utah" comments on here, of which about 90% also contain disrespectful comments about BYU, comments which include a Utah fan saying that the Utah student section at the game last week were swearing en masse to / about BYU fans simply because of their religion, saying disparaging things about Joseph Smith and Mormons in general, I've made up my mind.

For years and years I've actually rooted FOR Utah in EVERY game except when they played BYU; what's good for the UofU is good for my belove home state.

Not anymore. You guys appear (largely) a classless bunch.

Good luck in your BCS game. I hope you get destroyed.

Humility and class; find it.

To Bama fan | 3:26 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
You first of all are not a Bama fan. You are indeed a Zoobie that just heard the utes may play Bama in the sugar bowl and want to jump on that train.
here is my proof:
You guys could play in the national title game. And any TRUE fan would think that they have a chance at beating Florida in the SEC title game.
Try again little kitten
Jeff S. | 7:09 a.m. Nov. 26, 2008
Great game for Utah. Good luck in the BCS game.

Good game BYU for 3 quarters. Good luck in your Bowl Game. Austin Collie is a remarkable receiver, first time I had a chance to see him play this year.

Ute fans, enjoy the victory and don't hate on the BYU fans so much. It's great to poke fun at them but enough is enough. Leave religion out of it.

BYU fans, you lost. Get over it. Don't try to bring up everything else to try and make the U look bad.

Football is a game and the game between BYU & Utah is exactly that a rivalry game. Not a Holy War. Please leave religion out. God does not care who wins a football game if so I guess BYU would never lose. It's definitly not a war, no one dies for thier team unless it's a freak accident.

For the LDS people from both Utah and BYU if you hate the other team you are hating on your brothers. Hatred is a sin.

Good luck to both teams and especially the Utes in the BCS game.
re: Bleed Cougar Blue | 10:01 a.m. Nov. 26, 2008
All conference honors aren't just about numbers. When push came to shove, Max Hall fell apart in their two biggest games of the year. On the other hand, every time Brian Johnson needed to take over a game and win against good opponents he not only succeeded, he shined in doing so. Max puts up big numbers, but numbers mean very little if they don't translate to wins against quality opponents.
Re: Made up your mind | 10:53 a.m. Nov. 26, 2008
Well have fun with a team that cant do anything when it comes to the big game showdown!
You wont ever taste the BCS simply because that school down south does not perform when the spotlight is put on them...
And this isnt just football we are talking about, the second biggest sport (basketball) BYU struggles as well...
How many NCAA tourney games have you guys won in the last while?

Not talking about BYU basketball; no argument there. We make the NCAA tourney the last 2 years and lose in the first round. However, I'm not even sure you guys made the tournament in the last 2 years?

Did you? Not talking smack, I just don't know.

Anyway, I'm talking Cougar football.

Why are Utes so angry on here? I think? they are the ones who WON the game--right? Then why are there such rotten attitudes about BYU on here? It absolutely makes no sense to me how people can hate people so deeply and spew such sick profanity at the loser team. Some of you Ute fans need some emotional help.
