Mr. BYU | 1:35 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Heck, Air Force gave Utah all they could handle and BYU had a relatively easy time against AF once they focused. And Air Force had their new and improved QB that Utah didn't face!!

I'm thinking Utah will have their hands full on Saturday. With the pressure to win or go to the "So and So Bowl", Utah will make mistakes that will cost them!

Plus your luck has run out Utah...no more help from the ref for "pass interference" against Oregon State! No more missed "gimme" field goals like against TCU! It's time to play your best game...but you won't be able to do it...TOO MUCH PRESSURE!!!

BYU 27 UTAH 24

TCU can beat Utah too | 1:54 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
TCU should be going to the BCS instead of Utah or BYU. They are the best of the three and were simply robbed by the officials. You all know it!

Mr. Harris Rektim | 2:09 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
TCU choked. The liked how the officials missed two field goals and forgot how to pass protect on third down. Yeah we all know it. Utah should be playing in the national championship game. After tomorrow everybody will be saying Urban who? Wittingham is the man now!
Blue Boy | 2:14 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Everyone knows that the road to the BCS or any conference championship GOES THROUGH PROVO. Cougs have a consistent, quality program. Unlike some teams that lose to New Mexico at home, Cougs dominate at home. While it is true that the Cougs do not play as well on the road, they still have enough gas in the tank to dominate the RED POSERS. Harline burned the Utes in 06, Collie in 07. Unga or Pita to spoil the Utes pipe dream in 08.

BYU 42
Utah 28
Love it! | 2:21 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Isn't this so much fun?! I love this rivalry! Ha, ha, ha!
The Quest has moved North | 2:41 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Utes offense is not as aggressive as the coug's offense hands down.... but they don't play against each other.... Utes D will shut Down byu's O and the Utes will get it down the field every time.... if b. johnson can't get it in we can always leave it up to our boy Sakoda. 53 Yd Field Goal to Win!

GO UTES!!!!
re: Blue Boy | 2:48 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Luck fueled that fire.... the last two Rival games won by BYU were strictly luck....
but a W is a W....
look out cuz the Utes are coming into this game with no reservations.... they are going out there with the fire and the fuel to win....

GO UTES!!!
From Florida | 3:04 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
I live in Florida, but I have also lived in Utah. I must say that the rivalry there is better than anything we have here. You guys truly hate each other. Congratulations.

1984 and 2004 | 3:14 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Who they beat in their bowl game is not nearly as important as their final rankings.

BYU #1
Utah #5

but, just for the record:

Michigan was good enough to beat then #1 (final #18) Miami 22-14. Michigan finished tied for 5th in the Big 10, but only 1 game out of 2nd place.

1 Ohio State__7-2-0__9-3-0
2 Illinois____6-3-0__7-4-0
2 Purdue______6-3-0__7-5-0
4 Iowa________5-3-1__8-4-1
5 Michigan____5-4-0__6-6-0
5 Michigan St_5-4-0__6-6-0

Pittsburgh's best win was then unranked (final #21) Boston College 20-17. Pittsburg finished in a four-way tie for first in the 7-team Big East amd only one game ahead of 5th place Connecticut.

1 Boston College__4-2__9-3
1 Syracuse______4-2__6-6
1 Pittsburgh____4-2__8-4
1 West Virginia__4-2__8-4
5 Connecticut____3-3__8-4

Not the huge disparity some Utah fans believe, and since the Big Ten was MUCH better in 1984 (placing two teams in the final Top 16), than the Big East in 2004 (none in the final Top 20), it could be easily argued that Michigan 1984 was better than Pittsburgh 2004.
From Iowa | 3:27 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
There is definitely more hate here than back home in Big Ten country.

Go Utes
Congratulations | 3:32 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congratulations to Utah for beating BYU 2008!!! Sorry, I thought I would throw that out there since this game needs no more than UTAH wins!!!
Bleed Blue! | 3:35 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
This Rivalry will go down into history!!! Just like in 06 and 07. And just like in 06 and 07 The Cougars of Brigham Young will come out with the big W! Go Blue... Who likes the color red anyways???
Let's settle | 3:40 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
How about we settle this with Smirnoff's all around and see what happens!! GO BYU!!
TexasUTE | 3:54 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Please remove the Blue shaded bi-focals and admit that the UTES are the better team this year. BYU is a good team with a "great" record and they do have some great athletes. However, the UTES are the more well rounded team of the two and the cougar fan who cares to argue that is just ignorant. There is no shame in your team finishing 10-2 when both of your loses are at the hands of the 2 best teams in the league. The UTES will be ready for this game and I think we will see a game that turns out very much like the BYU/TCU game where BYU showed their true colors against a monster defense. So keep your chins up cougar fans and do well in your bowl game and make the conferance proud.
byu do better than weber? | 4:04 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
can byu top what weber did in salt lake this year vs the utes?

400+ yds, 21 pts, QB had 300+ yds passing

TCU couldn't do it, Oregon St did.

BYU wont!
364 nights of Sweet dreams | 4:09 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Can I just say I have slept so well the last 364 nights...dreaming of Collie open on 4th and 18...last second pass to Harline in the endzone...and the look of terror and blessed disappointment on the faces of all the heartbroken Utie fans. Ya...it has been a nice 364 nights since the last Holy War. I can only imagine the 2 AM nightmares...the fever and cold sweats...the long nights of endless insomnia for the Utie fans--I bet its been a long 364 nights for you. GET READY TO RELIVE IT ALL AGAIN...in about 12 hours...oh--and sweet dreams tonight Cougar fans...victory awaits us.
I LOVE THE HATE!!!! | 4:20 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
I have sat patiently by all year and hated the BCS while supporting my MWC. This week has been AWESOME!!! This is why professional football can never compare to college football. I love my neighbor every other day of the year, but during rivalry week, WE CAN'T LOOK AT EACH OTHER WITHOUT LOATHE AND DISGUST! That is my right as a BYU fan and yours as the "other teams" fan. This last week, I could HATE PASSIONATELY, all things red, just as my red neighbor did for my blue. There's two things that are taboo to talk about: politics and religion. The HISTORY of BYU and the team-up-north is BASED on religion. THAT CAN'T BE FOUND IN ANY OTHER COLLEGE RIVALRY!! Thank you for the opportunity to hate again this week. Next week, either me or my neighor will go back to dealing with a loss and hopefully we can be good neighbors again and turn our hate to the BCS like it should be from the start. As for tomorrow's game, the stat's don't mean anything to me. I HATE the yewts this week and I LOVE it!!!!
BYU: 28
the other, lousy team: 12

GO BYU!!!!!
Punked | 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
From Vegas Ute

That's right. The Utes have been "punked" the last two years.

You know what they say about pay back, its a ............well you know.

This game will be like the Jack Link's "Messin' with Sasquatch commercials. You know where the wieners try to "punk" the primate, and end up provoking the shaggy creature to their own demise.

Thats right Cubers. You play the part of the
chubby linksters in the golf cart, and the wiener on the mountain bike. Get ready to get flipped over and eat dirt.

I'm not saying Utah is dumb and shaggy but they, like Sasquatch don't react well to getting punked.
And the CUBERS have been living off the definition of "Punked" for 2 years.

If you mess with your Big Brother too many times your going to get the raspberry. And believe me you've earned it.

Collies bell will get rung.
Pitta will get stuffed.
Maxie will get padded, and then stomped.

CUBERS defense will....,uh....does it matter.

COUGAR PRIDE | 5:12 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
We will win this one. Maxie don't let me down. Collie you either. Pitta get the knee well for the game. George step it up and pull the rabbit out of your hat. D-backs - take off the cement shoes you've been wearing all year. D-line smash some teeth. Front line - step it up. Bronco and Anae - be flexible to your gameplan. Cougs are ready to rock and roll!!
Ute Lady | 5:13 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Why is the Ute lady so upset above? I think she must have saw Collie burning the Utes for his first of many) TD's tomorrow.
Whittingham's Garage | 5:15 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
I thought you were going to say the big house was Wittingham's garage. It may well be, once the BCS schools come a calling.
Max Hall | 5:20 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Max Hall hasn't faced a hostile environment like he will on saturday. He didn't play well last year against Utahs D and he won't play well this saturday.

Cougs get overwhelmed at RES

it's finally here | 5:32 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
all i can say is it's about time...good luck and may the best team win! GO COUGS!
Conflicted Coug | 5:42 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Okay, the head wins over the heart.

The prestige for the MWC and the money brought into the conference is more important than BYU getting one more win in what has already been an excellent season.

But BYU could get a BCS invite, you say. I learned enough math in Provo to understand the difference between a 100% lead pipe cinch and vanishingly small wing and a prayer.

...love the Cougs...like the Utes...show me the money!
Conflict This | 7:06 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Any Cougar fan that is conflicted over who should win this game ... get off the bandwagon, we don't need you any more.

You make me want to puke.
ARGH--NO MORE! | 7:20 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
If one more DesNews writer insists on calling this rivalry "The Holy War," I'm going to scream. What an offensive, idiotic, insensitive label. Anyone who uses it looks stupid! It's disrespectful to the veterans who've fought in a REAL "Holy War" they neither declared nor named--the terrorists did. So we're going to imitate the terrorists now?

For ANY of those reasons, if not ALL of them, please, PLEASE stop using this horrible nickname.
Ruscular | 7:25 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
It comes down to this:

Utah has more to lose and will play tight. They win, they go to the Fiesta Bowl. Lose and it's the Poinsettia Bowl. Ouch!

BYU can play loose. They win, they get Vegas Bowl. They lose, they get Vegas Bowl.

Prediction: BYU 31 Utah 27 (in overtime)

But: The finance guys of every MWC team (maybe even BYU!) are rooting for the Utes - due to the fat BCS paychecks.
Bronco Blue | 7:46 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Go Cougars, that way the best BCS Buster can go to the BCS. Send the Broncos they have not lost to a MW team in years.
Late at night | 10:27 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
The Utah-BYU posts prove that humanity has not progressed as far as predicted.
RE: Joke Lighten Up @1:15 | 10:55 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Q: What's the only thing sillier than a BYU fan pretending that God cares whether the Cougars win or lose a football game?

A: A UTAH fan pretending that God cares whether the UTES win or lose a football game.

It's not religion, it's football. Unless people quite strangely decide that it's BOTH.

Yes. Lighten up, indeed.
I've read the smack... | 12:04 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
..and the truth is, as a Ute I was more worried about TCU in advance of that game than I am about little brother in advance of this one.
Dish it but Can't Take It | 1:10 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
To: I've read the Smack ...

Did anybody ask you whether you were more worried about TCU? Who cares?

How worried were you before the Vegas game last year?

Post something intelligent, or go drink yourself silly in the stands later today.

Here's a prediction: I'll bet you were more worried about TCU than you will be your Poinsettia Bowl opponent.

(In case you missed it -- that was actually two predictions. Does that mean I can claim to have invented cold fusion or dreamed up a dinosaur dance floor?)
RE: Dish It | 8:46 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Wow, Dish. Thanks for reminding me why I'm no longer a "BYU fan." Enjoy singing "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" with the Primary kids tomorrow!
What a GAME | 10:02 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Hey "Confident": Find a postcard with a satellite picture of Earth. Write "wish you were here" on the back, and send it to yourself.

Utah put 48 points on the board against your Cougs.

While you were out of orbit the last time Utah made history and busted into the BCS, they crushed the Big East team they played. Not exactly a hoax. Oh, one more thing, Utah has one of the best win-loss records in bowls in the nation.

Doesn't it make you want to wear red, just a little? Oh all right. Hey, BYU will bust into the BCS one of these decades . . . er . . . years.

The battle between Red and Blue may never have been so intense, nor so defined, as it is this year when the 11-0 Utes host the 10-1 Cougars.
