I'm rooting against Oregon State, Ohio State, and Michigan State this weekend. Hopefully two non-BCS schools can make it a BCS bowl, preferably two MWC schools.
This is how you build a conference. This is how you build a football program for long-term growth. You have to be able to show recruits that they can play in a BCS bowl, and that the MWC is just as viable as the SEC, Pac-10, etc.
My blood boils just talking about BSU, seriously, I can't stand hearing about them with their weak scheduling, fake play having, and the most annoying fans in the world.
I don't want to see BSU using another fake play to win a BCS game, so as much I hate saying it, I want Utah to win unless BSU loses.
However, if BSU is out of BCS contention, I hope we beat the snot out of Utah.....I can't stand coach whit.
Trick plays and strange blue turf are not valid reasons to hate Boise State? All they have done is match what Utah has done by busting the BCS and have also gone undefeated this year at 10-0.
I'm first a Utah fan (because I went to school there) but I have no problems with Boise State. I have attended their games and feel the coach, team and school are a class act.
If extended an invitation, I'm certain BSU would join the Mountain West. Geographically, they'd be a nice fit and certainly bring as much (and in my opinion more) to the table than Wyoming.
If the Mountain West decides to expand to 12 schools, my hope is that Boise State be among those extended an invitation.
All Utah could do to make me predict they will win is wear black shirts, hold the game Thursday night, and/or hire some "hometown" referees, ala TCU. Otherwise, this game is a toss-up and it's silly to predict a winner before kickoff.
I'm not dissing Utah here. They're good the last few years, and I'm glad they are. But traditionally, BYU gets more respect. Whether you and your U. campus friends believe it or not does not change that fact.
By the way, if I were a Ute, I wouldn't brag so much about that BCS appearance against #25 Pitt, who got in only because someone from the Big Least had to do it. If they beat BYU this year--which is indeed a tossup--their BCS opponent may or may not be as good as the Cougars.
The Y may well get thumped this week-end. I can live with that. Or... they may just dump the Utes (a decent football team, by the way) on their heads, bursting the over-inflated bubble of some of their delusional fans.
By the way, I can live with that, too.
Go COUGARS!!!
Go back to school.
1) "Best Team" scenario:
If it's a three-way championship, concensus would have to be that TCU is the better of the teams (barring an unlikely BYU blowout of Utah). If Utah wins, BYU is the third place team, trounced by the second place team, so TCU comes out on top again.
2) "Long Term Economics" scenario:
Wouldn't it be short-sighted for the LV bowl to take BYU yet again? That would alienate the rest of the league who is already less than satisfied that LV is the conference's flagship bowl. It would only cause the league to push further for a better bowl arrangement. Would TCU fans really travel so much less than Y fans that it would be worth snubbing a top 15 team?
3) "Short Term Economics" scenario:
If it comes down to this year's dollars and you're just going to ignore the conference rankings, why not just select a bowl-eligible UNLV team and have the local fans totally take over the stadium?
So unless BYU wins AND TCU loses to AFA, I don't see any logic for BYU landing in the LV Bowl.
