Shaken Baby Syndrome is based on assumptions that have been PROVED incorrect. One is that nothing other than shaking can cause certain symptoms: bleeding in the eyes, bleeding in the brain, and brain swelling. In this case, it doesn't even sound like the baby had bleeding in the eyes! Several conditions that can cause those symptoms, including congenital diseases (GA1, HLH, Menke's disease and probably unknown causes). Meningitis is can cause the symptoms!

Another assumption is that the last person with a child who has those symptoms is an abuser. Children have been in the hospital for 16+ hours before a nurse or doctor saw alarming symptoms!

If this child was violently shaken, why is there internal bruising and yet no external bruising? Why are there no neck injuries?

This sounds very much like a rush to judgment. I hope and PRAY the jury will acquit this defendant unless there is proof BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. She should not have to prove innocence! Google the Goudge Report to learn why hundreds of shaken baby convictions are being reexamined in Canada. Google the Innocence Project to learn how often juries have wrongly convicted people of horrible crimes.
