Obama has not even been swore into office, and already he is feverishly working on breaking has campaign promises.

Obama was elected on a platform of being fresh, and not part of the old DC establishment. That he would not be part of the problem. Yet, here he is filling key staff positions, surrounding himself with people that were despised by the American people because they were part of the problem.

It is clear that we have elected another liar. Where will it go from here? Only downhill.

How can we go downhill when we're already at the bottom of the hill?

Another clinton appointee. Did we elect Hill or Obama?
TO BH | 12:57 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
To BH:

Rather than vent in generalities why not give us some specifics about whom you refer when saying "...surrounding himself with people that were despised by the American people...". "Fresh" does not equate with "untested" which is much of what the former Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican ticket offered. While I agree that the established "old DC" network is something to be avoided wouldn't you agree that a cabinet full of unproven, out of touch and unskilled political "wannabe's" would be disastrous especially in the face of the crises such as those we are now facing not to mention when dealing with foreign countries?

Our President-elect has the freshness of which you spoke but is tempering his staff with people knowledgable in the realities of our political system and world government interfaces. Why is such a broad-based approach being decried? I guess the old adage is true: "You can't please all the people all the time" and unfortunately in your case, and people like you, you will never be pleased.
Matt | 12:59 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
What happened to "change"? I guess "change we can all believe in," means no change at all. Because obviously we can't believe in real change for the better.

For a state with so many Mormons, there's a lot of hatred going on. Let's give Obama a chance. Or would you rather destroy the America you claim to love?
Clinton Derangement Syndrome | 1:06 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Yep you sure got it right. The clintons were so widely despised that the left office with their heads in shame with a lowly 65 percent approval rating.
SLMG | 1:11 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Here we go again, lets rev up the Utah Republican hate machine and see how nasty we can get when the Clinton name gets mentioned.

REF: BH. You are painting the American people with a very broad hate brush. Not all Americans feel the same way as you when it comes to the Clinton Administration, please include only those that you know in your diatribe not the general population.

Talk about lies you would have to go a far distance to find a bigger liar than George W. Bush, that is why the Republicans have lost not only the White House but congress as well.

Wake up and realize that there are 49 states besides Utah.

Buyer's remorse should start to kick in soon. Haven't even enjoyed the honeymoon yet.

We tried to tell you before you guys voted for him. Since this election was not based on substance, no one seemed to care at the time of purchase.
Obama read your post, you are... | 1:13 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
BH,

nominated Attorney General.

President-elect Obama isn't a fool and isn't going to select his entire cabinet from people who have no experience in Washington even though he will make such selections if they are warranted.

This is a damned if he does and damned if he doesn't proposition. If he chooses people with no Washington experience he will be criticized for only selecting novices and if he only selects people with inside the beltway experience he will be criticized because he didn't choose people who didn't come from outside of the beltway.

Obama as far as we can see is making the selections based on who he thinks will be in the best interest of the country. Holder has professional experience at Justice and has even served as Acting Attorney General before Bush replaced him with John Ashcroft. This isn't a position that you pick someone who does not have experience and Obama realizes it nor would anyone without extensive experience be confirmed by the Senate.

President-elect's don't go through a phone book and randomly pick people to fill cabinet positions. They choose from people who can help them make informed decisions because of their experience.

So much for CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

Maybe when Obama refers to "recycling" he is talking about his cabinet.
Tim | 1:22 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Well, Citizen... considering that Bill's approval rating was 66% when he left office (which I believe was the highest approval rating of any President in the last month of office), I'd say that we could certainly stand a few more years of Clinton policies.
Kathy | 1:25 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
We'll have change-change to good old Chicago style politics.
To citizen | 1:37 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Let's hope so, it would be great to have another eight years of good economic times like during the Clinton years of prosperity and surplus.

In most cases, knowing the wolf is in your own hen house is the safest thing to do. Unlike knowing he is roaming around somewhere outside and you cant track and keep tabs on his whereabouts and wannadoos!

Better than that BYU grad that gave Bush the legal thumbs up to torture.

"Had not opposed the pardon when other administration officials told him it could bring foreign policy benefits..."

Great person to run to Department of Justice. Nice to know if you have money and connections the rules don't apply.

Given that Bush has shown the world and this country how to govern the past eight years, many of you haven't even given Obama a chance to start. Maybe you like our country the way it is now - messed up.
To Good pick | 2:35 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
how come no one mentions that our enimies have the option to be tortured or not? They can give us the information we need to defend outselves. They know thier cause is unjust so why not give us the informaion? Besides, waterboarding is not that bad of torture. These people are out to destroy us.
Hateful Utahns | 2:42 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Why was it surprising to find out that the small children who changed "Assassinate Obama" were from Rexburg, Idaho...the home of BYU North? The thoughts must run directly up I-15 between Utah County and Rexburg.

No one would make you happy, except Mitt Romney in office (because he's LDS)....even though he's actually more liberal than Obama. Really.
Patriot | 2:59 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
To "To BH, regarding BH" etc. whatever:

You either are not old enough to remember or have a short memory and do not read if you do not know about the inferences said by BH. The specifics are in the article itself and clearly refer to the nearly 200 pardons that Clinton passed out like candy to convicts who paid for his campaign. Read the article. The people who elected this guy do not truly understand the risk to national security that will come with someone whose family is in and from another country. He is NOT a BLACK man as his wife swears but his mother his white and this should anger mother everywhere. This does not make him "fresh.....exciting" as you may wish him to be but yet another who practices political spin to his advantage. I don't think McCain was necessarily the answer either but believe that Sarah Palin has more real political experience than the 3 years in state congress and 3 years in U.S. congress that Obama has. Those, by the way, are specifics and points of fact. He is doing what Bill did; both lawyers are made proud surrounding themselves with scapegoats that'll takethefall.
Soldier | 3:08 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Clinton rode in on the shoulders of giants when reaping the benefits of Reaganomics and what George Bush gave him; a good economy which has NEVER come overnight. The economy George W has had to work with is the result of Clinton focusing more on women than his calling. He let so many people get away with things they never should have even dreamt of, it caused the hollow and collapseable IPO shatter abruptly which it did under the wake of the terrorist attacks that could have been prevented by said president who caught up with UBL in a Saudi hospital but instead of killing him, they apparently tried to negotiate with him to not attack any more (perhaps until a Republican gets elected) to keep his approval ratings up. By the way...it is well documented that polls dictated the Clinton's every move. If any president did that, their approval ratings would always be up as well. A parent is not always popular and instead of doing what the country needed as well as wanted, they always did what the country wanted. We are seeing children that are the product of this kind of hippy drug user thinking. Insanity!
Nuke | 3:17 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
To Hateful Utahns:

Your agenda is obvious. You carry yet another hate remark against LDS and try to insult us by saying that Mitt Romney is more liberal than Obama. That is just plain incorrect. Obama was labeled, by liberal magazines, as the most liberal individual in all of congress, ever. And we end up electing him. That is crazy, not just plain silly.

Romney is a decent man, regardless if he is LDS but you seem to believe that he is liberal and LDS which doesn't mix, if ever, at home or in Washington. You probably cannot name a single liberal thing about him except how long he goes between haircuts or how much hairspray it must take to keep his mop in place. Apply liberally does not mean they are a liberal politician. It means put a lot on, just like the bologna that is applied liberally by liberals in congress and the presidency when elected. Watch how many of the true free thinkers are made shut up or gone after by ATF and any other federal arm like under Clintons with disastrous results. Hopefully, this torture we have opted for will only last 4 years.

Hide your guns. Holder is a big on gun control and pushed to the have the DC gun control ban kept in place. Obama is already sending out covert left wing messages with his appointments.
DH | 3:39 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Isn't change a wonderful thing? Here we are, the whole nation, counting on the "change" Mr Obama promised to bring us. But all we are seeing are all of the same old people being put back in to the same old positions.

There is no change coming. This is politics as usual. Making promises with no track record is always easier than keeping them.
Clinton? | 3:48 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
Clinton popular? Oh how quickly you forget. Don't you remember that the nation made a major shift to the republican side during the final four years of Clinton's administration?

Do you not remember that Al Gore would not even acknowledge his relationship with Clinton during his campaign because it was so negative to be associated with him?

I think you have a convenient memory. What Clinton gave us was 8 years of dishonesty and no leadership and most policticians were ashamed to admit they even knew him.
Honesty | 3:52 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
It should also be mentioned that clinton's economy benefited from the technolgy and internet bubble,

which had nothing to with clinton or gore, but everything to do with entrepenuers and captialism and businessmen.

and not matter who would have been president at that time, the economy would still have benefited.

It was just luck of the draw.

I can't believe how much the word "hate" is used on these blogs day by day. I'm becoming more and more convinced that most bloggers need serious psychiatric counseling to help deal wth their vicious inner child. Many people write things on these blogs that they would NEVER say to anyone in person. Is this the way you get your frustrations out--spewing your emotional problems all over the internet? Does anyone know how to say anything nice anymore?

I am a committed, conservative Republican with many years of experience as a politcal professional in Washington, D.C. I DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA!

More importantly, I am a patriotic American who loves my country. When the election is over, we all come together, support our new president, wish him the best and do everything we can to help him succeed. That's the American Way. Let's not be bad winners or losers--EITHER ONE.

If he doesn't do a good job, we can hire someone else in four years. But, for now, we need to put aside this mean-spirited nastiness and do everything we can to help our country and our new president succeed.

This is the first time I have visited this site. I am LDS and have lived in areas where Most of the time I was growing up I went to Branches and traveled hours to attend stake conferences. I cannot believe most of these people who are making these comments go to church, take the sacrament and commit to be as Christlike as they can the next week. I am a dem. who votes for a person and their policy's not a blank ticket. I had hoped better of this site. I live in Ca and supported the ban on Gay marriage. You folks act worse than those who disagree with me here in my state.

RE: "cats"

This is exactly the message I was able to deliver to my 8th graders here in CA. Yeah, maybe our guy won, and maybe he lost, but we are all Americans who need to work, hope, and pray for a positive change in our country's political climate. Tearing down and insulting simply leads to more of the same. It never builds up and improves relationships or political situations. It is really a matter of maturity.

I only hope there are enough adults left in this world who care enough to make sure that the generations to come will make a positive difference by being mature and responsible doers, not whiners and complainers.

My guy lost, now my president is the other guy. I'm worried, but I will do what I can to make the best of it. Perhaps that is what we can do to assure that there is not a Clinton relapse.
Holder hearings | 5:36 p.m. Nov. 19, 2008
". . . it's likely Holder will again face questions about those pardons . . .?

Let's hope so! When the good offices of President of the United States are put up for sale, there ought to be some accountability. Bill Clinton skated, of course. But to reward the architect of one of those White House fire sales with a position as the AG?

C'mon!

Not an auspicious beginning for President Obama.

Hows that for approval rating?

Too bad he didnt take out Osama Bin Laden when he had the chance.....

Compared to the Bush Justice Department, the Clinton Justice Department was Xanadu. Eric Holder should be approved easily.
Hatch | 7:40 a.m. Nov. 20, 2008
Hatch was trying to get answers from this clown?
Hatch is just another cog in a huge corrupt political machine.
Mr. Funny and Bennett have been in D.C. for a long, long time and they are just as responsible as Frank, Dodd, Pelosi ,etc. for the economic meltdown happening now.
Mr.Funny and his sidekick are no better then the "dirty" people they investigate.
And This is "Change?" | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 20, 2008
What an absolute JOKE! Change we can believe in? Believe in what?? That the majority of the electorate in the U.S. is absolutely STUPID to not to have seen through the pandering and vapid platitudes and empty and over-used campaign slogans? Let's see -- Obama promised "no lobbyist influence" in his new, most ethical whitehouse. And then, he askes Rahm (the snake) Emmanuel to be his Chief of staff...and Rahm has extensive ties to Lobbyists and poised to dole-out favors, as is Obama's new Transition Coordinator, Tony Podesta, whose brother John runs one of the largest Democratic Lobby firms in the nation.
wondering why | 11:27 a.m. Nov. 20, 2008
I grew up loving America. I still love America. I was a small town mayor once and here is the first lesson I learned; opinions are not right or wrong they are opinions. Great political leaders are often hated for no clear purpose. Abraham Lincoln had to have been one of America's greatest leaders yet he was assasinated. I am so tired of the denigration of George W. Bush. two years before this election he had the highest ratings ever by the "polls" but the way to win elections in American in our new America is by slandering the "past"....My 77 year old mother said it best "give the man a chance". I didn't vote for Obama. I don't like his commitment to redistributing "wealth" but he is President. Let's give him a chance. Let's accept each other's difference; stop maligning each other and just try to be a good AMerican ourselves...be the standard you want in your government.
Utah Is Amazing | 12:18 p.m. Nov. 20, 2008
Its amazing how Blind Utah is to what has been going on in the world the last 8 year while the Devil (Dick Cheney) has been president. Have you ever seen anyone dirtier than Cheney. Bush was a figurehead for Cheney to push what he wanted done and America is a Joke now around the world. At least we can only go up from here, Obama can't possibly do worse then Bush. what is Bush at? 25% approval? He will go down as the worst president in US History, and us Utahns love him still and he still gets High Numbers here. I don't get it, are people in Utah really that Blind or Just flat out Dumb? I for one am glad for the change and hope things can only get better from here at the Bottom. Can you Imagine Palin being President? What a Joke that would be, But I am sure Utah would Vote her in. She needs to go away and stay away and never come back to National Politics. She is Dumber than a Doorknob!
To Cats | 2:04 p.m. Nov. 20, 2008
Well said.
To Amazing | 12:18 | 3:05 p.m. Nov. 20, 2008
Speaking of dumber than a doorknob -- you don't have a clue what bottoming out is.

Yet.

Give it 4 years under Obama. Then, those of you too young to remember how bad things were under Jimmy Carter will have a common frame of reference with the rest of us.

When gas is $10 a gallon, unemployment is 20%, the Dow is lower than the "misery index" (invented during the Carter years), pirates are operating off our shores, and the UN sends peacekeepers to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles -- then you'll have an idea what bottoming out really is.

Good thing I stashed all my Cash in a Mattress, Well if its really going to get that much worse then there are going to be some amazing buys coming from everywhere. I hope most are not Leveraged as this will be the buying opportunity of a Lifetime that can make you a fortune when things do start to come back up. I also think that Palin is Dumber than a Bix of Rocks, Doorknob is a compliament for her.
I also hope with your doom and gloom attitude that you have saved well and don't have any debt as you won't make it through this alive if you didn't. Good Luck with your Meds.
