November 18th as reported by KSL!
If it's all just a big misunderstanding, well, you can't blame them for being cautious. The same kind of hoaxes happened after the anthrax letters, with the same caution exercised then.
Can anyone think of a powdered substance that is even remotely available that would actually cause any harm if mailed (so long as you didn't eat it or rub it in your eyes!)? And there wasn't even any powder in this envelope!
Terrorism only works when it makes you afraid. Get over it, and we won't have to read these stupid stories on a regular basis.
This makes me angry. This is beyond illegal.
Manilla envelopes, especially padded ones, are impervious to light.
________________
The anger vented against Latter-day Saints in the wake of Prop 8 vote is nothing new.
The saints in all ages have been the target of discontents, malcontents, critics, the angry, and the insane. Therefore, the reaction of the Seminarians was praiseworthy and correct by their not discounting the possibiity of it being dangerous.
These good teachers were right and wise to put the safety of their students before taking a risk that a package, deemed to be 'suspicious' might prove to be a harmless hoax or prank.
It is easy to carp and ridicule AFTER the emvelope has been proved safe, but it would have been INSANE to have taken any other course of action in case - and the possibnility does exist - it was either an explosive device, or contained bioterrorist or other hazardous materials.
May God who gives sight to the blind, keep our eyes, hearts, and minds open to besetting or possible dangers without our becoming fear-bound to the point of being frozen with fear ad unable to act in the face of a perceived emergency.
Feed His lambs.
One can never be too careful when it comes to safety, and it is better to investigate and discover it is a false alarm than to blithely ignore seeming threats and come to harm, if thou hast been
"summoned to the deep.
Thou, thou, and all thy mates
To keep an incommunicable sleep"
